FRECCIAROSSA - DISAPPOINTED | Italy's Trenitalia flagship service Florence-Bologna-Rimini.

- I travel on board Italy's Trenitalia flagship train service between Florence-Bologna-Rimini, and I was disappointed. I hadn't noticed how to avoid the dreaded 'table with 4 seats' on Frecciarossa, as there was zero legroom. Now I know. #trenitalia #frecciarossa

As someone living in Italy, I would like to mention that the first Frecciarossa you traveled on between Florence and Bologna was a fake Frecciarossa. That train was one of the ETR 600 Pendolino trains which are former Frecciargento trains. Frecciargento trains used to be a slower and lower-end version of Frecciarossa. The Frecciargento brand was recently dropped and integrated into Frecciarossa but the former trains have not been upgraded to the same standards as the much nicer ETR 500 and ETR 1000 trains. They are effectively less comfortable Frecciargento trains wearing a Frecciarossa party frock.
Ignore the little wanker
Nice description. These interlopers should be exposed for the fakes they are.
The tracks from Florence to Bologna (originally from Rome to Milan) were build brand new, something like 12 years ago. That include a lot of tunnels and bridges. Those tracks are used only for high speed trains, both Freccia and Italo. The tracks from Bologna to Rimini and further are old ones, used by all kind of trains, cargo, local, IC, and high speed. That can explain bumps on your second trip. And those are not vineyards, those are mostly peach trees (what makes Romagna unique in Italy) as well the peers, apples, and kiwi. Regards from city of Forli.
Love the videos Scott! Take care and much love from Montreal,Quebec 🇨🇦
What a shame you haven’t enjoyed FS !
The solo-seats legroom in Business class on ETR 500 is unbeatable
Thanks for braving those trains so we’ve learnt a valuable lesson ❤
I do like the trains in Italy as they do have such character in them and how they were built which makes them so beautiful. 😍
I think the toilet is the best seat on the train, can you bookit in advance? :D I'll take Corrour over Bologna Central anyway! I'd be so confused!
One thing I have learnt from watching these superb videos from Scott....
He's very careful, with the cash!
But bravo, excellent as always.👍👍
Yep. Wonder if he would be so tight on an EMR train.....
most scotsmen dont like parting with there cash
@@BIGV710 Hey! I resemble that remark!
The travel experience on a Frecciarossa varies a lot depending on the rolling stock.
The OG Frecciarossa 500 (the second train you got) have the most comfortable seats and the best ride quality, but most of the seats are on bays of four, so legroom can be an issue if the train is full.
The Frecciarossa 1000 are the most stylish, ride quality is pretty good, but seats are generally terrible and are not aligned with the windows (in standard class).
The Frecciarossa 600 is the worst. Formerly branded as Frecciargento, they feel very cramped, the seats are pretty bad, there's limited space for luggage and it's super bumpy.
The Frecciarossa 700 have uncomfortable seats, and the ride quality isn't the best, but it feels way more spacious than the 600s. Positive note: most seats are airline-style and have some decent legroom.
I prefer to take Italo, as they have better on-board service, first class is pretty cheap, and 90% of seats are airline-style, which makes for a much better journey if you have long legs like me and/or when the train is packed.
I absolutely agree with you about the table seats (in configuration 4+4), they are much worse than the 2+2 configuration both in terms of legroom (when all 4 seats are occupied, the feelings can really become horrendous) and privacy. Unfortunately, Trenitalia put the 4+4 configuration on all its trains and only a few seats per carriage are in 2+2
When I was a child we took the train every summer from York to Rimini , wonderful memories. My dad worked for the railways and I worked at The Great Northern, Kings Cross so had an awful lot of free train travel and we made the most of 😊. Still love trains, thanks for a super video 😊
Ok I have some thoughts as a local,
About the train sets: as stated from others there are different train sets and the one shown in this video are not the new etr 1000, but one is ex freccia Argento and the other is etr 500.
I agree Bologna station can be difficult to navigate at first but it's not that bad designed.
The line from Bologna to Rimini is a conventional line but they use freccia for long distance. Yes the adriatic route is slower and needs upgrade, but it's not an high speed line cause the high speed line is on the other side.
I also don't like the bays of four when the train is crowded, and I hope they improve it. However there is the possibility to go in first class and it's not that expensive because there is standard, first, business, executive, so a lot of people take first class.
Nice video but pretty based and doesn't represent the whole system but just a couple of routes (one not even high speed) in the worst class and presents it to the audience like it's the norm which it isn't.
As I also live in Rimini, the luggage and seating issue also came to be because the tourist season is almost here and the trains are now running at full capacity. If you want to experience Italian trains at its peak, I would suggest you come off-season.
Love a good blog by Scott
Great video as always Scott.
Great Show Again...Thanks
Frecciarossa is an excellent service, however, on a section like the Bologna-Rimini, since it is a traditional railway, you barely save time and pay more
Great video Scott
I didn't need strangers to confirm I'm crazy. What a quote. Scott you sure do get out and about. The channel is great, and I respect and admire you go get it do approach. Thanks for all your efforts. Stay safe and enjoy.
Nice trip. Nice trains. Thanks Scott.
Nice report as ever.
It helps to show a map showing the places you mention and the route taken.
Also helps you to explain the the ticket you took and price and the alternatives available. also
Lots of good advice in this one. Thanks for taking one for the team!
You should have paid the extra for first class.
We travelled all over Italy last year on Frecciarossa first class. Its only a little more expensive than standard.
I loved the Frecciarossa trains. They are much better tgan Italo in my opinion.
Plus I don't think you travelled on the ETR 1000 trainset. The first one looked like a Frecciaargento train that had the new Frecciarossa livery. And the second train was the older ETR 500 train set.
Best line describing UK trains like Avanti, ScotRail, LNER - "you can swing a cat in those toilets" 😂😂
I hate all these airline style trains where your squeezed up against other passengers. Used the Lumo service from Edinburgh to London last year , couldn't wait to get off the thing.
I do love though those station announcements in Italy , takes me right back to my Interail days back in the mid and late eighties.
I think my experience of Frecciarossa was very different but then I travelled between Turin and Milan when it was fairly quiet and had a seat in Business class. I still think that Italy has excellent railways certainly compared to the UK.
Unfair comparison.
Table with 4 seats is indeed terrible. Had the same experience in Spain on the praised Renfe high-speed service. This type of seating seems specifically designed for families with kids or something because they offer absolutely no personal space. I had to share the area with 3 other single traveling adults and it was just cramped and awkward. I really dont know why usually such a large % of the seating seems to family oriented because single or duo tarvelers seem to outnumber them by quite a large margin.
Another fantastic Vlog Scott it’s a shame about the leg room on these trains and how overcrowded they are I thought that was only something we suffered with here in the UK but obviously not and for it to be running late wasn’t good neither I look forward to watching your next Vlog until then keep up the good work
👍👍👍
I love Rimini, I've been a few times. The last time I went was by train, but not the high speed train
We caught one from Rome to Milan a few years ago & I thought it was excellent 👍😊 maybe it's changed since Covid 😢
I used Frecciarossa last year, first class, and it was excellent. I can't talk about standard class since I didn't experience it.
Late and overcrowded! - seems familiar?
"I'am crazy, but I do not need strangers to confirm it." 🤣🤣🤣
A UA-camr by the name of Dylan’s Travel Reports tried the frecciarossa 1000s recently in first class and he said they were aweful, legroom was ok, but the seat recline was mediocre and the seat were un comfy and poorly shaped and the ride quality at high speed was terrible like going through turbulence on an aircraft
I have to disagree. We travelled on Frecciarossa last year in first class all over Italy. It was a great experience. Only thing I would say was bad was the luggage situation. Alot of stupid tourists had huge suitcases that were completely impractical for travelling on a train. These suitcases took up so much room on the end luggage racks. But the overhead luggage area is big enough for medium sized suitcases.
@@bubba842 always good to get a second opinion. Dylan always has the courtesy to say in his videos ‘these are just my thoughts/opinions, be sure to let me know what you think in the comments’
Squeezing up to gain seating? I wish!! Here in Rio de Janeiro, our (commuter, but still, could be almoat 2 hours) trains are losing seating, just so they can stick more standing passengers in there. Bleh.
Train out of Bologna looked like quite a nightmare…
Did you visit San Marino whilst you was in Rimini?
Hey BRONZY ! I thought you were a St. Mirren fan 😂 , maybe a bit of the Chic Young variety of ' St. Mirren fan ' 😂 .
I did Milan to Rimini about 14 years ago and the trains where the same then
Paying market prices on Frecciarossa means you travel in executive. You'll probably note the difference with the ordinary cattle class you tried out.
Happy to see that there was no toilet tour, we all know what the room looks like and have to use one at least once a day and, unless it is in an absolutely disgraceful state, I for one am not interested.
I hate the quad seats too.
I'm pretty fearless, but seriously those train stations are terrifying! Granted, I live in the Arizona 'sticks' with no train service, so I'm not familiar with traveling by train, but Italy looks particularly daunting... Thanks for taking us along on your adventures, I'm learning a lot and sure enjoy the scenery
whatttt???? omg!you live in the united states not in uganda, does a modern and crowded train station scare you?
You suffer from agoraphobia otherwise most stations are just like that and many are definitely worse.
No to both , I live in a small town with wide open spaces and I like it that way. If there were any trains or even public transportation other than a small bus here, I’m sure I’d adapt. We have none of it. The closest greyhound bus station is 15 miles away, and only goes north and south. The closest train station is 50 miles and only open 2 days a week. It’s just what you’re used to!
Elaine Farr… you live far 😄
I'll vouch for your sanity Scot. I almost felt like holding my breath in that seating position; squashed is the word . Though the exterior was quite handsome . At speeds of 250kmph the discomfort is magnified with the bumps and shakes ; maybe strapping in would be a good idea . I won't join you if you're going to take the same configuration in future.
In 1 Month i am traveling with an EC from Munich to Rimini
6.02...Kiss & Ride straight ahead....what's that !!
who carries a cat to swing about ?
The only mainland European trains I’ve travelled on was between Amsterdam and Cologne. They were brilliant?
Pleased we avoided a toilet tour.
You can't say you're disappointed by the train, if you chose Business class you would have had more legroom, from the type of seats I see, you chose either STANDARD or PREMIUM which don't really differ that much, try to book BUSINESS.
Disappointed ? Only lots of nonsense.
Ah I see the problem, you need to use Euros mate, pound coins don't work in the EU ;-)
That train looked to be style over substance. Great film thou
As much as I hate to say this, that seems to be a theme for Italian products!
@@epender the old saying about Italian items is, "if it moves don't buy it" , everything else Italian is great
@@paulhoughton5266 I think we can all agree that Ferrari and Lamborghini don't sell cr*p cars 😉. The waiting lists are VERY long. In fact Ferrari choose who gets to buy their cars, not the other way around...
So european intercity trains are no better than the UK?
They are not exorbitantly priced, they do reach speeds of 300 kmph, frequency is much much higher, so I wouldn't make the argument you're making
@@adastida I was asking a question rather than making an argument. In the UK there are some good intercity fares if you shop around and the comfort factor has generally been decent (in my opinion).
The Ryanair of the rails…….
Not really. Italo trains felt more like an airline with mostly airline style seats. But the Frecciarossa trains were definitely more train like and less airline like.
Nah in italy the Ryanair of train are the commuter train like "Hitachi rock" "alstrom pop" they are sardine can.
So basically you are disappointed because you found both trains busy and because of an error of yours when reserving the seats... No offense, but that's quite a poor review, in my opinion!
The leg room looked as bad as Intercity from the 1980’s and certainly will avoid thanks to this review.
@@baseballfan99 if you want extra legroom, the business or executive classes are waiting for you ;)
Not a great advert for Italian Railways !
Well I can say that I traveled to England on a Northern lines train from Preston to Mamchester and it was the most uncomfortable journey I've ever made of all the trains I've traveled on in Europe, very expensive ticket for the bad service offered, very slow train, very dirty inside, not even seats available, had to do over 40 minutes of journey on foot, finally got to manchester picadilly but it was very late.
The next day I even found a strike and there was no train available from Picadilly to Manchester airport, I wasn't even reimbursed for the cost of the taxi I had to pay, because Northern Lines only offered me a voucher, which I won't use anytime soon. when I live in Italy.
@@Alexrassi I agree with you completely Alexros. Travelling by train in the UK is generally not very comfortable or convenient and often the trains are overcrowded. Our railways were built over 150 years ago and haven’t really improved much since then. I must say sorry for your experience, even though I have nothing to do with the railways. Ti auguro ogni bene.
every year millions of foreigners arrive from all over the world who use Italian trains and compliment the efficient service, both regional and high speed, the only one who complains about everything is him!
Perhaps the people are Americans and it’s going to better than their trains
