Hey Jordan, I have had excellent results from using Apple Cider Vinegar or just White Vinegar (a mild acid) to clean corrosion from electrical contacts by soaking in the Vinegar occasionally scrubbing with a Firm non-metallic brush. Then I follow up with a scrubby scrub scrubbing bath in a Baking Soda and Water 💦 solution to neutralize the acidic vinegar without any mechanical sanding or damage to the contacts by removing material. Works excellent on all of the EFI Engine Harnesses. There’s no reason to use a mechanical solution for a chemical problem basically, hopefully this helps you or another Z Owner
    Cheers
    Kevin
P.S. I have a Spare Hazard Sw. if need be

Awesome tip thank you! I have a feeling that I have a bad or a couple bad grounds somewhere. I need to get more Savy with me multimeter to really nail down where my problems are. But in the future I’ll definitely use the vinegar and baking soda mixture method!

Had this same problem in my 77’ 280 I just flipped the hazard switch off and on like 30 times and seems to work for now haha. Thanks for the tutorial, I’m sure I will need to dig into the switch one of these days.

Mine used to act like that too but then it all the sudden stopped completely so I was like eh whatever I’ll tear it open and see if we can sort it out. I think I’m going to have to start tracing continuity to figure out where the fault is, thanks for watching!

This tutorial definitely helped me, got it all cleaned up, and now the hazards and turn signals work pretty decent, I found I still have an intermittent problem with the turn signals, but if I wiggle the turn signal, it works, so I’m assuming that’s where my issue is

Glad that it helped! Yeah sometimes the turn signals need re-wiring since they’re essentially exposed to the elements. It’s a real simple wiring job though!

Been watching your other videos, beautiful Z! I have a ‘74 260Z that first started using that switch. So far it’s behaving, but when the time comes this video will help. On yours could it possibly be the flasher again now that the switch connections are clean or a bad ground somewhere? Unplug that switch and check continuity through it and make sure the harness side is getting power besides the dash light. Maybe try regular bulbs on your lights and see what happens. Subscribed!

Thanks for watching! Good call on checking continuity, I actually just ordered a new multi meter to do just that! I have a feeling that it’s a bad ground somewhere maybe. Either that or some corroded wire that needs replacing , more to come! Thanks for subscribing :)

I am concerned by using dielectric grease on the contacts. As the grease is an insulator and does not conduct electricity. Presumably you are expecting the contacts to wear through the grease and get metal to metal contact.

It’s pretty normal to add the grease, and if your contact is too weak to go through the grease, then that’s probably something that should be addressed

I learned when I used my hazard light it screwed up my turn signals, so I never use my hazard switch. Never.🙂

Did the spring and plunger not push down enough after the surfaces were sanded down?

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  3 роки тому +1

Naaa, the plunger still did work, and I know that because if it didn’t work, the little switch would flop around without resistance. But since the switch still “clicked” into place, that tells me that things are still contacting well. Also I removed very little material with the sand paper so it shouldn’t affect things. I think I may have some bad grounds somewhere!

Is there a plug that comes off the harness for the hazards? I just bought a hazards switch off eBay and it looks like I don’t even have the plug to connect the hazards to, is that just weird or should I look for another plug to get to the main harness

I believe there is a plug for it. You can ask for a plug or even make your own, but yes there should be one

Nice video, how did you fix the blinker issue ? Thx

I threw in the towel and took it to Harmon Resto here in Las Vegas. But the problems were a blown fuse and my blinker relay only being plugged in. I also had a small error when I reinstalled the hazard switch, the plastic plunger slider fell off. Replaced the hazard switch and it worked well

My 2 cents...your going to look back someday at what you did to this car and say.. Man I was just a kid but still what the hell was I thinking?
