Chris Chris Chris, the car wiring harness is not as bad you make it out to be. But I've rebuilt 7 Z cars. It's a very good reliable system. Now when animals and hacking home repairs,and 50 yrs of who knows what, but the grounds have never been an issue. Datsuns are World known for their bullet proof reliability. My personal resto mod 280Z. I built a fiberglass dash,I built a hybrid wiring harness. I removed the fuel injection and fitted 240Z carbs. I lightened the car by removing any thing my Datsun 240 Z, didn't have. I cut the door skin off removed the door crash bars. I took out the fake trunk floor and brackets.The heavy stock seats removed to fit racing seats alot lighter. And I fitted a G-nose.. it's lowered, and 15" wheels. I took those bumper assemblies off the first day. You always give great advice, from experience. The old UA-cam can use more people with yrs of experience like you. Great videos on the Datsun Build. Keep it up.
that wiring is shit... you will see when i do some rewiring... it is shit because nothing can easily be tested.. what year were you working on your cars? i mainly mess with GM.. and GM had some respect for people that bought their cars and trucks... this car is 44 years old and wired like a 2012 BMW.... of course it is not electronic... i know the car is reliable.. thats why i bought it.. you will see.. i am not full of shit
@@chriscraft77022 I didn't suggest your not talented to over come these obstacles. I didn't want the viewers to just think all Z cars have crappy wiring because the factory harness is of high quality. I've been working on Z cars since the early 90's I've owned 7.And I'm currently resto modding 2 additional Z cars. A 78 and a 73. So last of the 280Z and last of the 240Z. I've been building and daily Driving Sports cars everyday since I was 17. I'm 67 now,and still building motorcycles and Sports Cars.
I will apologize in the next video.. the wiring is nearly perfect in the car… I thought it was all mest up but it was just a few things that made me mad… I will explain it all.. I’m not even going to cut a single wire out..
awesome advice on saving your old parts till your certain you won't need...and resale value on ALL these parts are amazing!!!or like you said , and I try to do help out a fellow datsun enthusiasts

I always wondered about all the factory relays and amount of things used in the harness on these. Going to be interesting to finally know for sure what is needed vs. factory. Thanks.
I would do the same. Rip it apart and go through it. Just need to stay organized, labels, parts bags/bins, etc. Old cars always have hidden surprises. The rat/mice nest is nasty. Need to bleach the shit out of the ducting and interior now. I use a steamer to disinfect interiors. But the chunky bits can be a pain! PPE would be warranted.
@@chriscraft77022 a good exercise! I generally only bag and tag when I know it’s going to be apart for a long period of time. I’m actually just wrapping up some major refresh work on my 06 350Z. I didn’t tag anything. I used parts trays like you and memory. So far, no missing fasteners and no spare fasteners. The work has taken me about 2 months only working weekends. I didn’t rip apart the whole engine and interior though, so easier to keep track. Clearly experience with this stuff plays a major role.

New dashes are available - but their incredibly expensive. I think around $1300.00. Love the 280Z video series!!
