- Vertical integration is a strategy that allows a company to streamline its operations by taking direct ownership of various stages of its production process rather than relying on external contractors or suppliers. A company may achieve vertical integration by acquiring or establishing its own suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, or retail locations rather than outsourcing them.
In this video, we will discuss the industry value chain, major types of vertical integrations, and the advantages and disadvantages of vertical integrations.

Vertical integration is what I want for my future business. As an event planner, I see so many brides who do not want to use so many different vendors. It streamlines their process and budget if they have one place that can do it all. So, providing the venue, decorations and planning all in one place allows less stress for them and the perfect vertical integration for me. I do not have to rely on so many different people and benefit financially! This video explained it so well.

Vertical integration is perfect for companies who want to expand their business but want to stay in the same market. Companies can either go forward, stating at manufacturing and ending at selling for backwards, which would be the opposite of the former.

The goal is to gain greater control over the supply chain and manufacturing process. When done right, vertical integration can lead to lower costs, and a lower reliance on external parties.
I am a bit familiar with vertical integration based on previous course I have taken. Specifically, backward and forward integration which is interesting to apply to actual companies who practiced it.
