I'm crying right now watching your video. You put in words what I've been trying to tell my husband about how different life is here in the states and in the Philippines. I am from the Northern Philippines and migrated here in the states more than a decade ago and I'm tired of life here. I miss the slow pace of life, I miss having a community who actually wants to know about your well being when they asked you "how are you?" , I miss the warm beach and white sands, I miss the food but most especially I miss the peaceful lifestyle. I am slowly trying to build a business that I hope can support us so we can go and live in the Philippines in the near future. Wish me luck :)

Welcome to the Philippines! My dad was from Missouri, met my Filipina mom married at 21 and lived in Baguio until he passed at 79. He loved the country and the people. He said he wants to be reincarnated in the Philippines.
I've been living in the Philippines for the last 10 years since retiring from the military. The wife and I went back to the states before the lock down. We just got back to Cebu last week. Love being back here. And the wife's happy to be back with family.

I spent most of my adult life working in Japan. Long hours daily many weekends sacrificed. Life is definitely simpler here in the Philippines. If you can have your own business you can have a good life maybe not rich but a happy life.
@@markeverson5849 There are plenty of poor people for sure but there are plenty of folk with money too. Some foreigner run small cafes restaurants or if they have a Filipina wife run things like water stations, laundry or small convenience stores.

I have sent quite a bit of money to the Philippines to help out a handful of individuals over the last 2 years but things are getting so tight in the USA the cost of everything Rising everything that I'm starting to squeeze tight to preserve my own future I don't know what's going to happen but I would love to come to the Philippines and get a piece of land far out near the coast and higher the locals to build me a traditional bamboo Village house I can build myself log cabins but hey that's in the American Backwoods
@@markeverson5849 Well you could start your own building firm and hire and train locals. Cebu has plenty of lots of land and I myself will probably get something in the next couple of years. I am going back to Japan next month but as I married Filipina we are still planning to make Cebu home in future.
Some other things that I may add: 1. Language - English is a second language of Philippines, and almost everybody from a grade school to older people can speak or at least understand English as compare to our neighboring Asian countries, you can communicate well to almost everyone without any issue. 2. Western Culture - out of all Asian countries, Philippines has the most westernized way of life: from clothing, music, movies, hobbies, sports (basketball is life here), foods, among others. ...Great people, peaceful place, cheaper lifestyle, relatively safer place...it's more fun here indeed!
Can't agree more! We are a dependable lot. We work hard but we enjoy life way much better than most people in Asia. We are the fastest growing economy in Asia pre-pandemic. Despite the downturn in the economy, our GDP grew by 8% in the first quarter of this year, way much higher than expected. Barring unforseen developments, we can expect a robust gowth in the economy once the Marcos-Duterte administration gets settled. BBM has appointed nominees to his cabinet with excellent credentials and track records, esp.his economic team. The thrusts would be agriculture, tourism and healthcare. Of course, with the VP-elect at the helm of the education dept., we expect certain reforms.
Yep you really need to be on good terms with your wife's family. Which is really now your family as well. Your Filipino family is your lifeline for deals & to protect you from rip-offs.
I am a Filipino lawyer and my life is also stressfull which is pretty much the same as other lawyers experience in different parts of the world. So it is not the Philippines per se that is stress free but it is the attitude that you adopt. I try as much as possible to keep my weekends free (which may mean long nights at work) and spend weekends only with my family where we will go out on small trips or just eat in nearby restos.

People don't speak with each other and yes, in restaurants we look that there is a lot space between the next table 😅 I am so excited to meet my LDR Filipino boyfriend in 3 weeks. i live in the eastern sierras(Mammoth Lakes) close to where the Yosemite turn off is--i host a lot of people from all over the world via couchsurfing--sometimes we go to one of the many hotsprings in the area--guests are always amazed how friendly americans are--they always tell me if at a place in their home country nobody talks to each other--at the hot springs or any where else we go people are chatting it up,being funny,friendly
I could not agree with you more. I was born in the Philippines, but grew up in the States. My wife and I vacationed in the Philippines for a month, though I worked remotely for half that time. I felt so relaxed and at peace, even during my remote hours. When our time was up and the plane was lifting off from NAIA, I just started crying uncontrollably. I guess I was bracing myself emotionally for the return to the stressful life in the States.
I love the Philippines 🇵🇭. I’ve been traveling there for the past 5 years. I’m closing on a condo next month. We are also in the process of buying some land to build house for us to retire some day. I love how everything is so affordable in the Philippines. With that said I’m planning on doing my own UA-cam channel soon documenting everything.
Something that struck me when I visited in the early 80's was the friendliness of the people and the sense of unusual comradely amongst expats- good to hear those things haven't changed in all these years
Been here 15 yrs and the infrastucture has been the biggest noticable improvement, and yet the Philippines is still under the radar for most people...long may it remain so...imho manila sucks, province life is the best life 👍 mabuhay!

LOL, what’s under the radar…..permanently now and is 1000 times superior to the SHole PI is Vietnam. No retirement visas, no more indefinite visa extensions, purged out all the expat bums. 30 day tourist visa and then you GTFO. I love it !!! (Retired here in 2019, married a beautiful young local half my age, Vietnam now my happy expat free home).
After the "Battle of Manila" in February 1945 the city was 90% destroyed. It was re-built, but it was never the same. Manila was once referred to as "The Pearl of the Orient" - that was 80 years ago.
I've been living in manila since 5th grade until i finish my secondary school then tried working for a year in front of NAIA airport, that was 2004, now i choose to live in province less stress less people, less traffic, easier to travel, cheaper lifestyle amd better safe than Manila streets.
The Philippines is the best place to be in the world. I love it and whenever I am back here in the US working, I am saving to be there again. Coming for 3 months soon!
I feel you brother, leaving in the Philippines is less stressful. I'm from Southern California very stressed working a lot of hours. All you need is a simple lifestyle. I bought a house in Davao. I realize how important spending time with your loved ones is. I want to enjoy life and relax. Life is short my friend.

I've heard many Americans echoing the same sentiments about how stressful life in the States is, compared to life here in the Philippines. I'm not American but I'm sure glad to be here!
Its stressful because this generation and next Americans are complacent of work and the life their living. The same goes to 3rd generation Filipinos born and raised in the US. They got this snowflake mentality. I'm Filipino migrated to the US at 30, now 50 I'm still enjoying work and working overtime. I shine shoes and sell cigarettes and newspaper in grade school. Be content and enjoy the life you choose. The only stress you're going to get is your wife nagging.

A really big advantage of a Philippines home base is the english proficiency of most Filipinos, whether written or spoken as the educational system is patterned after the US. Of course, you’ll never meet such very warm, friendly people than Filipinos. I agree that living or even vacationing in the Philippines is almost stress free. I was originally from the Philippines and when I come over for a visit, no matter how tiresome the day is or how late I go to bed as 24 hours is never enough in a day in the Philippines, I observed that I always wake up refreshed, rested and motivated to get going the next morning and day. It’s never a dull day because there’s a lot to do or explore wherever you are in the Philippines. I don’t know much about Thai people but Filipinos value people-oriented activities they trust you the first time you interact with them. I also love Filipino people but when money comes into it be very careful as most will steal your money without a 2nd thought. Even so called family members.

Yes Philippines is a very chill stress free country. Great video and nice to hear your thoughts and comparisons between the US and the PI. I'm married to a Cebuana and really love the country and culture as yourself. We live in Chicago but have a home about 35 minutes out of Cebu city heading into the mountains. I will take early retirement in 2 years at 55 and we are out of here! Keep the videos coming and enjoy life in the Philippines.
We also lived in the Chicagoland area and came here in 2019 after our house was built. We have several Filipino friends and all in all the Filipino people are so friendly. However, after arriving we discovered that our neighbors are not fond of foreigners and have made our life hell at times. My wife is Filipino and they don't like her either. Don't get me wrong, I love the Philippines and plan to stay. I just made a mistake by picking the wrong area. Life could be more stress free and I don't regret leaving the fast paced life in the US but we are looking for a different location.
@@jimandsusan7315 So sorry to hear this. The neighborhood that our house is in is pretty much all my wife's family. Her Grandfather owned the equivalent of 500 acres and when he died it was split with my mother-in-law and her siblings. So it's basically all aunts and uncles up there. The property our house is on was given to my wife by her mom. Everyone up there are very friendly people. I wish you the best in your search for a better location. I was back in the US last Dec 28 thru Mar 7 to assist my brother with his cancer treatment ( he is cancer free now ) I experienced the pace of US life again and could hardly wait to get back. We will find what we are looking for but patience is the key.
Hey now, I'm a former Nashvillian, been living here in Metro Manila going on 12 years now, married to a Filipina for about 10 years this year. a retired musician living on a fixed income, something I couldn't do back in Tennessee. We are looking for property to settle into in the province now. Wouldn't trade life here for anything, as Cuzin Minnie would say, " just so proud to be here"!
Nice! I have a lot of friends from high school who are thinking about going abroad now because of the cost of living. Tennessee is one of the most affordable places in the states to live, but they are having a hard time making it work. I did enjoy my years in Nashville though. Hope you find a perfect plot of land!

My Son treated me to my 59th birthday there in 2019 he flew from Melbourne where he was living at the time and me from the UK. I have to say it was the best experience of my life! The Philippine people are the most loveliest hospitable people I ever met full of smiles and yes totally chilled.
I lived there on the border of Leyte and Southern Leyte for 4 years. I never paid over p5000 ($100) for rent. My other expenses were as little as p7500 ($150) a month. I eventually splurged by hiring domestic helpers, but my cost of living (like a king) was never over p30000 ($600) a month. I was living a very comfortable and privileged lifestyle. Filipinos there where I lived considered me wealthy, but by American standards, I was poor (working class). To be able to live in a country so luxuriously on my small (remote worker) income was amazing. I truly got spoiled, but more than that I got schooled and am a better man now than when I arrived in the Philippines in 2018. I returned to the US this past February, but my plan is to return to Asia later this year or early next year. My eyes are on Cambodia as I'm looking for a place that offers me more opportunities to make money (and easily retire) than I had in the Philippines. I'm definitely not at all interested in spending the rest of my life here in the United States. In my opinion, the US is way overrated and overpriced. I would have never realized that if I hadn't moved to the Philippines. I changed so much by living in the countryside with the humble Filipino people that I now consider many of them family and myself, half Filipino.

I’ve been doing lots of research and I’m probably going to live a different lifestyle in Cambodia than the Philippines. I’m not interested in glitz and glamour, but it looks like I will indulge myself, as a nicely furnished modern studio apartment with nice amenities, such as a pool, gym, security, maid service, etc., in the number one neighborhood of the capital city, Phnom Penh, is very affordable. I’m also an English teacher, and Cambodia has lots of English teaching jobs, so that’s a much better scenario for me than the Philippines. Really, the only chance of not ending up in Cambodia is if I am offered a better opportunity elsewhere first.
true, Philippines has no better offer for foreign nationals, they considered foreign as wealthy they can go business venture anytime they want, never realize that after all fund being spent in a vacation there will be no income. Perhaps what you need to do next time is to invest in your own business, try to learn the market "consumer" oriented market it's booming here. Just imagine the mall comparison in Philippines and in USA.. People with less priveledges kept on spending their needs and wants.

It’s a place where local people still have the ability to go from poverty to wealthy. I personally am not interested in investing in any foreign country. Not having citizenship where you invest or do your banking has a lot of red tape and risks I am not interested in.

The evolution of earning while doing what you want. If before they say "find a job that you enjoy doing and you will never have to work a day of your life", then comes the work from home set-up where you can take care of your family while working, now I would say travel all over the Philippines, vlog and you earn! You get the perks of going places, learning different cultures and still earning! We Filipinos love vlogs that showcase our culture and our country. Not all Filipinos can afford to travel. So seeing vlogs about our country gives us an opportunity to travel virtually and know the rest of the Philippines. It's a win-win situation where the vlogger gets to travel and life is stress free, and we get to see our country (We love to watch contents like this that make us proud as Filipinos), we then watch and subscribe, then the vlogger earns through ads. I've been taking all my vacations in the Philippines for the past 10 years.When I retire from the postal service in 5 years im definitely moving to the Philippines 🇵🇭..Its such a beautiful country and beautiful culture. And everything is inexpensive compared to the usa.
We live in Cavite. One hour (maybe 90 minutes) drive to the US embassy or airport in Manila. We have a two-story house in super secure gated community, 3 bdrm/2bath, 20,000 pesos a month. Our monthly budget, 2 kids, five adults, is about $2000US a month, usually below 90,000 pesos for everything.
I worked in Manila for 16 years. So glad to get out of that hell. No way would I subject my son to the school system there, the incompetence of people on the job, the lies, manipulative nature of the culture. And yes my wife is a Filipina and feels the same way. I think you need to live there much longer or try working. Your thoughts will change if your working there and not just retired. If retired, there are a lot more other countries that provide better value.

Good to hear. Enjoy your stay here! There is so much to explore. While, we, Filipinos would love to have a western style comfort and life, still, nothing beats living in a simple way here in Pinas.
I'm the odd one out about this. The stress of entering ports I haven't used before is overwhelming for me when I bring a car. Common traits I've encountered with ports is: 1. Lack of or poor signage. 2. Unclear prices of ticket 3. Multiple stations to go to all spread apart ( coastguard, port fees, tickets, etc) 4. Fixers swarming your car trying to "help" you but only making you stress wondering if you're actually paying the right price or getting ripped off because of #1 and #2. I've been here 8 years but have only gone on single island hops from my home in Negros because of this. Just the thought of driving all the way to Luzon using multiple ferries turns me off. And that's fine I've been ok with My Negros-Cebu travels.
I was stationed in the Philippines 1982-1985, in the U.S. Air Force, and have a Filipino wife. We have been married 40 years, and neither of us has any desire to retire there. For one thing, we hate the climate. Spending three years in a third world country made me appreciate things I took for granted in America. Glad you are happy.

You are 100% correct about how less stressfull. I take blood pressure medication.After living there 1yr. I started feeling lethargic. Went to the Dr. and he told me my blood pressure very low.Turns out it was because of my meds. In about 6 months time I was completely off my meds. And my blood pressure was lower than it was with meds living in California.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts abt retiring in the Philippines. Since I came back from a vacation in 2020, I’ve been mulling these thoughts too, of enjoying stress free life and low cost living. I’m now in my second year of preparation, saved as much as I can, and completing my Canadian and old age pension applications. Hopefully, we’ll bump each other in some restaurants or beach spots. That is exactly what I miss from my birthplace.. A stress free life. I been living in the US for 30 years now and became an american citizen long time ago.. I'm happy to be living in the US with my family but it is a daily struggle to survive here. I was 26 years old when I came here and Ialways reminisce the days growing up in the Philippines only to realize that I lost so many things that I used have especially a stress free life.
Then come back once in a while and unwind, enjoy the beach and the warm weather; the tropical fruits and all the good old fun. I don't relish living anywhere else.
Dr. Laway: I was in PH million years ago. Your program is VERY informative and thought provoking. I am an OLD guy in California. My adult daughter, a disabled U.S. Navy vet, and I decided to move out of California at the end of June. Imagine, my rent is $3000 per month plus all the utility and other expenses add up to $4000 per month. My car payment and insurance cost another $1000. It is ridiculous paying this kind of money and struggling to live. So we are finally MOVING. It is funny that we thought about Chiang Mai and even Albania which you mentioned. My daughter and I watched your program together. We are inspired. When we come to PH someday, we will try to contact you. Our first stop is Korea. From there we will TRAVEL. We lived in Penang, Malaysia for a year about 10 years ago. And Mexico, for 5 years after my retirement. We went to Russia 4 times. Wow i was blown away undoubtedly you made a very precise things about our country esp the cost of living here is really affordable and is safer and stress free you dont have to live to work but to work and enjoy. Back in province life its more slow moving so living there is paradise esp you can eat 3x a day have chips and internet its heaven.

Simething to think about we live near Clark Airport. Flights to places like Hong kong, Singapore, Taipei are really cheap and airport so easy to get in and out. Actually we just flew back from cebu last week and Clark's new airport is complete. Cost us $120 round trip to Cebu. Hoping someday flights from usa direct will go thru clark.
I think it's much better you chose Philippines over Thailand, cheaper and nicer people. Philippines is more like the Balkans of Asia, when I would say Thailand is like Germany - good infrastructure, but cold people :)

It’s almost a month ago 😅, I am retired and staying here for good. I worked so hard in US and after investing a private resort business here in La Union, I decided to retire early. I don’t want to spend all my strength at work, I want to live stress free and just enjoy life while I can. My small resort and my SS benefits is more than enough for me plus I have a daughter with 4 kids and a husband who runs my business, we live comfortably, AC in every room, 2 high speed internet. We had been talking about getting married, but I got cold feet on it. Always regretted that. The taxi is one thing I found to be incredibly cheap in the Philippines. Many of my rides around Cebu City were less than $2. Even the longer rides were only in the $3-4 range. American prices are easily 5x that.
My wife and I live in Cebu, and the prices for taxis you said are correct. I have a car and two motorcycles, but we often use taxis just so we don’t have to drive in rush hour traffic, or try to find parking where there isn’t any.

Living in the Philippines is less stressful, compare to the western countries. But my opinion is Philippines is no longer a cheap country. Everytime I go to Digos, I always crave some food from the US so I decided to open up a minimart that only sells US goods next to my laundromat and boutique. I remember having some chips and salsa and cheese dips and no one bought the chips😅. My employees end up eating the whole bag of chips🤣

I'm Australian, hoping to come over the end of the year, I'm 60 this year I do BJJ and MMA 6 days a week our club is a franchise we have one in Malaysia and about 20 in Australia 🇦🇺, hoping to start one in the Philippines. I've been sick twice in 34 years, I'm good with languages I speak basic Spanish and German I'm currently learning Tagalog. A lot of the people at our club are professionals one of my mates that runs one of our North Brisbane clubs is a lawyer, always good to get advice from. We also have a guy who comes over every couple of months to train from Cebu he has a boat building business there he tells me all the bad things so I'm prepared lol. Hope to chase you up brother.

I'm crying right now watching your video. You put in words what I've been trying to tell my husband about how different life is here in the states and in the Philippines. I am from the Northern Philippines and migrated here in the states more than a decade ago and I'm tired of life here. I miss the slow pace of life, I miss having a community who actually wants to know about your well being when they asked you "how are you?" , I miss the warm beach and white sands, I miss the food but most especially I miss the peaceful lifestyle. I spent most of my adult life working in Japan. Long hours daily many weekends sacrificed. Life is definitely simpler here in the Philippines. If you can have your own business you can have a good life maybe not rich but a happy life.

Some other things that I may add:
1. Language - English is a second language of Philippines, and almost everybody from a grade school to older people can speak or at least understand English as compare to our neighboring Asian countries, you can communicate well to almost everyone without any issue.
2. Western Culture - out of all Asian countries, Philippines has the most westernized way of life: from clothing, music, movies, hobbies, sports (basketball is life here), foods, among others.
...Great people, peaceful place, cheaper lifestyle, relatively safer place...it's more fun here indeed!

Can't agree more! We are a dependable lot. We work hard but we enjoy life way much better than most people in Asia. We are the fastest growing economy in Asia pre-pandemic. Despite the downturn in the economy, our GDP grew by 8% in the first quarter of this year, way much higher than expected. Barring unforseen developments, we can expect a robust gowth in the economy once the Marcos-Duterte administration gets settled. BBM has appointed nominees to his cabinet with excellent credentials and track records, esp.his economic team. The thrusts would be agriculture, tourism and healthcare. Of course, with the VP-elect at the helm of the education dept., we expect certain reforms.

Yep you really need to be on good terms with your wife's family. Which is really now your family as well. Your Filipino family is your lifeline for deals & to protect you from rip-offs.
I am a Filipino lawyer and my life is also stressfull which is pretty much the same as other lawyers experience in different parts of the world. So it is not the Philippines per se that is stress free but it is the attitude that you adopt. I try as much as possible to keep my weekends free (which may mean long nights at work) and spend weekends only with my family where we will go out on small trips or just eat in nearby restos.
Re organise your life to remove stress. If you can not do that ...... no hope/future !

i live in the eastern sierras(Mammoth Lakes) close to where the Yosemite turn off is--i host a lot of people from all over the world via couchsurfing--sometimes we go to one of the many hotsprings in the area--guests are always amazed how friendly americans are--they always tell me if at a place in their home country nobody talks to each other--at the hot springs or any where else we go people are chatting it up,being funny,friendly

I could not agree with you more. I was born in the Philippines, but grew up in the States. My wife and I vacationed in the Philippines for a month, though I worked remotely for half that time. I felt so relaxed and at peace, even during my remote hours. When our time was up and the plane was lifting off from NAIA, I just started crying uncontrollably. I guess I was bracing myself emotionally for the return to the stressful life in the States.

Something that struck me when I visited in the early 80's was the friendliness of the people and the sense of unusual comradely amongst expats- good to hear those things haven't changed in all these years

After the "Battle of Manila" in February 1945 the city was 90% destroyed. It was re-built, but it was never the same. Manila was once referred to as "The Pearl of the Orient" - that was 80 years ago.
I've been living in manila since 5th grade until i finish my secondary school then tried working for a year in front of NAIA airport, that was 2004, now i choose to live in province less stress less people, less traffic, easier to travel, cheaper lifestyle amd better safe than Manila streets.

A really big advantage of a Philippines home base is the english proficiency of most Filipinos, whether written or spoken as the educational system is patterned after the US. Of course, you’ll never meet such very warm, friendly people than Filipinos. I agree that living or even vacationing in the Philippines is almost stress free. I was originally from the Philippines and when I come over for a visit, no matter how tiresome the day is or how late I go to bed as 24 hours is never enough in a day in the Philippines, I observed that I always wake up refreshed, rested and motivated to get going the next morning and day. It’s never a dull day because there’s a lot to do or explore wherever you are in the Philippines. I don’t know much about Thai people but Filipinos value people-oriented activities they trust you the first time you interact with them. I'm married to a Cebuana and really love the country and culture as yourself. We live in Chicago but have a home about 35 minutes out of Cebu city heading into the mountains. We also lived in the Chicagoland area and came here in 2019 after our house was built. We have several Filipino friends and all in all the Filipino people are so friendly. However, after arriving we discovered that our neighbors are not fond of foreigners and have made our life hell at times. My wife is Filipino and they don't like her either. Don't get me wrong, I love the Philippines and plan to stay. I just made a mistake by picking the wrong area. Life could be more stress free and I don't regret leaving the fast paced life in the US but we are looking for a different location.

Her Grandfather owned the equivalent of 500 acres and when he died it was split with my mother-in-law and her siblings. So it's basically all aunts and uncles up there. The property our house is on was given to my wife by her mom. Everyone up there are very friendly people. I wish you the best in your search for a better location. Nice! I have a lot of friends from high school who are thinking about going abroad now because of the cost of living. Tennessee is one of the most affordable places in the states to live, but they are having a hard time making it work. I did enjoy my years in Nashville though. Hope you find a perfect plot of land!

The Philippine people are the most loveliest hospitable people I ever met full of smiles and yes totally chilled.
I lived there on the border of Leyte and Southern Leyte for 4 years. I never paid over p5000 ($100) for rent. My other expenses were as little as p7500 ($150) a month. I eventually splurged by hiring domestic helpers, but my cost of living (like a king) was never over p30000 ($600) a month. I was living a very comfortable and privileged lifestyle. Filipinos there where I lived considered me wealthy, but by American standards, I was poor (working class). To be able to live in a country so luxuriously on my small (remote worker) income was amazing. I truly got spoiled, but more than that I got schooled and am a better man now than when I arrived in the Philippines in 2018. I returned to the US this past February, but my plan is to return to Asia later this year or early next year. My eyes are on Cambodia as I'm looking for a place that offers me more opportunities to make money (and easily retire) than I had in the Philippines. I'm definitely not at all interested in spending the rest of my life here in the United States. In my opinion, the US is way overrated and overpriced. I would have never realized that if I hadn't moved to the Philippines. I changed so much by living in the countryside with the humble Filipino people that I now consider many of them family and myself, half Filipino.

I’ve been doing lots of research and I’m probably going to live a different lifestyle in Cambodia than the Philippines. I’m not interested in glitz and glamour, but it looks like I will indulge myself, as a nicely furnished modern studio apartment with nice amenities, such as a pool, gym, security, maid service, etc., in the number one neighborhood of the capital city, Phnom Penh, is very affordable. I’m also an English teacher, and Cambodia has lots of English teaching jobs, so that’s a much better scenario for me than the Philippines. Really, the only chance of not ending up in Cambodia is if I am offered a better opportunity elsewhere first.
true, Philippines has no better offer for foreign nationals, they considered foreign as wealthy they can go business venture anytime they want, never realize that after all fund being spent in a vacation there will be no income.
Perhaps what you need to do next time is to invest in your own business, try to learn the market "consumer" oriented market it's booming here. Just imagine the mall comparison in Philippines and in USA.. People with less priveledges kept on spending their needs and wants.

It’s a place where local people still have the ability to go from poverty to wealthy. I personally am not interested in investing in any foreign country. If before they say "find a job that you enjoy doing and you will never have to work a day of your life", then comes the work from home set-up where you can take care of your family while working, now I would say travel all over the Philippines, vlog and you earn! You get the perks of going places, learning different cultures and still earning!
We Filipinos love vlogs that showcase our culture and our country. Not all Filipinos can afford to travel. So seeing vlogs about our country gives us an opportunity to travel virtually and know the rest of the Philippines.

I've been taking all my vacations in the Philippines for the past 10 years.When I retire from the postal service in 5 years im definitely moving to the Philippines 🇵🇭..Its such a beautiful country and beautiful culture. And everything is inexpensive compared to the usa.

We live in Cavite. One hour (maybe 90 minutes) drive to the US embassy or airport in Manila. We have a two-story house in super secure gated community, 3 bdrm/2bath, 20,000 pesos a month. Our monthly budget, 2 kids, five adults, is about $2000US a month, usually below 90,000 pesos for everything.

I worked in Manila for 16 years. So glad to get out of that hell. No way would I subject my son to the school system there, the incompetence of people on the job, the lies, manipulative nature of the culture. And yes my wife is a Filipina and feels the same way. I think you need to live there much longer or try working. Your thoughts will change if your working there and not just retired. If retired, there are a lot more other countries that provide better value.

I'm the odd one out about this. The stress of entering ports I haven't used before is overwhelming for me when I bring a car. Common traits I've encountered with ports is:
1. Lack of or poor signage.
2. Unclear prices of ticket
3. Multiple stations to go to all spread apart ( coastguard, port fees, tickets, etc)
4. Fixers swarming your car trying to "help" you but only making you stress wondering if you're actually paying the right price or getting ripped off because of #1 and #2.
I've been here 8 years but have only gone on single island hops from my home in Negros because of this. Just the thought of driving all the way to Luzon using multiple ferries turns me off. And that's fine I've been ok with My Negros-Cebu travels.

I was stationed in the Philippines 1982-1985, in the U.S. Air Force, and have a Filipino wife. We have been married 40 years, and neither of us has any desire to retire there. For one thing, we hate the climate. Spending three years in a third world country made me appreciate things I took for granted in America. Glad you are happy.

You are 100% correct about how less stressfull. I take blood pressure medication.After living there 1yr. I started feeling lethargic. Went to the Dr. and he told me my blood pressure very low.Turns out it was because of my meds. In about 6 months time I was completely off my meds. And my blood pressure was lower than it was with meds living in California.

That is exactly what I miss from my birthplace.. A stress free life. I been living in the US for 30 years now and became an american citizen long time ago.. I'm happy to be living in the US with my family but it is a daily struggle to survive here. I was 26 years old when I came here and Ialways reminisce the days growing up in the Philippines only to realize that I lost so many things that I used have especially a stress free life.
You still have time to recover those beautiful memories... go for it!
Then come back once in a while and unwind, enjoy the beach and the warm weather; the tropical fruits and all the good old fun. I don't relish living anywhere else.
Dr. Laway: I was in PH million years ago. Your program is VERY informative and thought provoking. I am an OLD guy in California. My adult daughter, a disabled U.S. Navy vet, and I decided to move out of California at the end of June. Imagine, my rent is $3000 per month plus all the utility and other expenses add up to $4000 per month. My car payment and insurance cost another $1000. It is ridiculous paying this kind of money and struggling to live. So we are finally MOVING. It is funny that we thought about Chiang Mai and even Albania which you mentioned. My daughter and I watched your program together. We are inspired. When we come to PH someday, we will try to contact you. Our first stop is Korea. From there we will TRAVEL. We lived in Penang, Malaysia for a year about 10 years ago. And Mexico, for 5 years after my retirement. We went to Russia 4 times. Simething to think about we live near Clark Airport. Flights to places like Hong kong, Singapore, Taipei are really cheap and airport so easy to get in and out. Actually we just flew back from cebu last week and Clark's new airport is complete. Cost us $120 round trip to Cebu. Hoping someday flights from usa direct will go thru clark.

It’s almost a month ago 😅, I am retired and staying here for good. I worked so hard in US and after investing a private resort business here in La Union, I decided to retire early. I don’t want to spend all my strength at work, I want to live stress free and just enjoy life while I can. My small resort and my SS benefits is more than enough for me plus I have a daughter with 4 kids and a husband who runs my business, we live comfortably, AC in every room, 2 high speed internet. This is the life I planned and thanks God, it materialized. Your story by the way is very interesting and I’ll watch more of your videos. Welcome to a happy life here in the Philippines 🇵🇭

We had been talking about getting married, but I got cold feet on it. Always regretted that. The day you wake up you go to work until night and goes on and on. The taxi is one thing I found to be incredibly cheap in the Philippines. Many of my rides around Cebu City were less than $2. Even the longer rides were only in the $3-4 range. American prices are easily 5x that.
That is true. When I was in DC took a taxi from the Embassy of the Philippines to the Mall and was like 15 and was not very far at all
My wife and I live in Cebu, and the prices for taxis you said are correct. I have a car and two motorcycles, but we often use taxis just so we don’t have to drive in rush hour traffic, or try to find parking where there isn’t any.

Living in the Philippines is less stressful, compare to the western countries. But my opinion is Philippines is no longer a cheap country. About 50 years ago our family moved to US. Now we're fully retired and enjoying 6 months vacation back home. It's been and quite and surely loved it being back home.
I have been feeling very depressed and I have been planning to move to the Philippines with a hope of having a better life and your video just brought me out of depression for a while. Thank you so much for honestly sharing your experiences and feelings.
Do come & visit our country. You will know what really life is. You will be sorrounded with happy, smiling, caring people.
Frankly, one has to watch many of these videos to put together a composite profile of the the country. I take the demographics and values of the person giving his views into conisderation. Life can be great in the US, (or anywhere) if you have plenty of money. But life is hell in the US if you don't. Rents have gone through the roof and even middle class folks are struggling, so economics is huge. Thanks for you POV, sir.
Everytime I go to Digos, I always crave some food from the US so I decided to open up a minimart that only sells US goods next to my laundromat and boutique. I remember having some chips and salsa and cheese dips and no one bought the chips😅. My employees end up eating the whole bag of chips🤣
Oh wow! Is it next to the Fresh Start Laundromat? My wife went there today and bought all the cheese dip lol. She saw it on facebook and ran across town to get it!

I'm Australian, hoping to come over the end of the year, I'm 60 this year I do BJJ and MMA 6 days a week our club is a franchise we have one in Malaysia and about 20 in Australia 🇦🇺, hoping to start one in the Philippines. I've been sick twice in 34 years, I'm good with languages I speak basic Spanish and German I'm currently learning Tagalog. A lot of the people at our club are professionals one of my mates that runs one of our North Brisbane clubs is a lawyer, always good to get advice from. We also have a guy who comes over every couple of months to train from Cebu he has a boat building business there he tells me all the bad things so I'm prepared lol. Hope to chase you up brother.
Would be nice to have a BJJ club. When I was in Thailand they were all closed due to the regulations. Good look with your move here!
i think it will be a good move for you.. the government has just eased up the economic foreign policy..slashing away the 60/40 policy..i think that is the reason why foreign vloggers who has been here for 4 years lately are investing and creating their own company..just like mike and nelly who is in the paper prcocess of putting up their own coffee shop
Well as filipino you don't really need to learn Tagalog or bisaya, English will do just fine!
