    I would just suggest a t5 tube light. That light doesn’t produce the amount of uvb they need as a desert species. That is probably why he’s not as active. I didn’t have the right light and mine acted like yours. But I got that exact zen habitats enclosure and I got a 12% t5 Arcadia light and mine is way more active. Also would suggest some top soil/play sand so he’s not sliding all over the enclosure. They have substrate shields for their enclosures. Especially because he’s older and it’s hard on his joints being on a harder ground.

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  4 роки тому +8

      Jackie Lavallee He had another uvb with this light in the 40 gallon, but the fixture broke. So I’ll be adding another to this enclosure so that he gets uvb when he’s not basking too. And that’s very helpful! I wasn’t aware of this with their joints. Thank you! 💕💕💕

      I hope I wasn’t sounding rude! I had no idea either until I read a study on them and then I saw the difference in mine when I switched him! Mine is a rescue (I’m his 3rd home), so I don’t know how old he is. But with all the things I’ve added to his enclosure he’s acting young now!

      @taylorj9127 4 роки тому

      Totally agree here! Beardies must have a tube style uvb to thrive. I’m sure you’d see his activity levels rise also. The reason he has such buggy eyes is because of lack of uvb.

    There's a lot of hight not being used right now. Maybe it's a cool idea to make a 3d background in the future. Obv a big project so not something to rush. But I think it will make it more appealing to him and you. 😁

    I'm curious if he stays lazy. My Edgar has been super lazy all his life that I've had him (I adopted him when he was 4 and now he's 12), so I thought like you he wouldn't use a bigger cage. But he got more active just from me switching to bioactive so now I'm wondering if I don't need to save and buy him a ZenCage.
