@@swingbadderpodcast I don’t know if you’ve done it yet, but my Detroit Tigers gave a pretty embarrassing contract to Juan Gonzalez back in the day…

Dontrelle Willis was awesome for a horrible Marlins team after 2003. He was ROY and won a world series and in 05 any other year he would have won the Cy Young. Chris Carpenter just happened to have an insane year the same year. He was an Allstar in 03 and 05 but the Marlins severely over pitch Dtrain. He's a member of the Black Aces who is a small club of Black pitchers with a 20 win plus season. I remember when he hit the wall and it was the 2006 WBC or whichever the first year of the WBC was. You can tell he wasnt feeling it. He lost his control and then yeah The Marlins traded Dtrain and Miguel Cabrera to Detroit for Cameron Maybin and former number one over all pick Andrew Miller and maybe someone else. Once he got to Detroit he was going on the IL for Anxiety for gods sake. I think he had some off the field problems in his personal life and he never really gained back his stuff. He was always amped up... I dont think he had any injuries he was just tweeking and lost his control. He also was in the Reds,Phillies,Baltimore and Diamondbacks organizations. He might have signed minor league deals with a few other teams but he did make it back to the MLB with the Reds and Diamondbacks. I actually have a game used Dbacks jersey of Dontrelle Willis. It was his last season but you mention him not having high wins later on after Detroit (which he was always on the IL fo Anxiety and I believe he had a DUI but don't quote me on that) After that he was never a starter again. He pitched out of the bullpen I'm pretty sure for the Reds and Dbacks. He pitched for the Long Island Ducks and I don't even know how he did but he hung it up after that. I know one things I still collect Dontrelle Willis cards and autos etc. He was one of my fav players. He works for FOX as a commentator still too. They still make cards of him til this day which I think is pretty cool and since I collected his cards and memorbilia all those years I check up on his stuff and people still buy his cards which I think is wild but I think it's pretty cool he was so popular that they still make cards of him every year in multiple products and they sell. I don't know what happened to him after he was traded to Detroit but something happened with the anxiety issues I'm pretty sure but not 100 percent certain he did get in some minor legal issues. I still love Willis if I haven't said it enough. It's a shame he never made it back but like every Pitcher the Marlins ever brought up til this day they over pitch them and they worked him too much Im sure of it. Go back and watch the first WBC and you will see Dtrain implode and lose all control and you can see his frustration if I am remembering this correct. I know he started a game or two and did horrible and that team was loaded and they got bounced early from that tournament. I could go on about Dtrain but he is a good dude and had a good little run. He will obviously never be a HOFer but if the Marlins didn't over use him and he was with a proper team and had his innings controlled his career would have lasted much longer. If you remember he started out as a Cubs prospect and was traded to the Marlins and for the life of me I can't remember who they traded him for. It also didn't help him when they traded everyone except Miggy from the 2003 WS team. He was pretty much a toss in because of his contract to Detroit. They were hopeful I'm sure but they wanted Miggy.... It's weird I have a dual autograph card from 2008 the year he was traded with Mark Fidrych on it. Both ROY winners, both essentric and wildly successful for a few years and both blew up with whatever injuries they dealt with stemming from Anxiety. Anyway I'll shut up now. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out but it's hard to remember everything but it's a shame he flamed out after leaving the Marlins and you're right something was wrong in 2006 before he was traded but I will always believe they ruined him by over using him. Also you are correct he was made to be a NL hitting pitcher. The dude could legit hit a baseball and was always good for a handful of HRs and extra base hits a year. I think he even had a handful of Grand Slams. They even made cards of him batting with bat relics on them because he could legit hit. He will always be one of my favorites its just a shame whatever happened. It's bizzare honestly.
