Slavery was a horrible thing. Definitely. There is no country on this earth that has not had slavery at one time or another. I think today we all have learned from those horrors and will never allow them to be repeated. We must remember the hundreds of thousands of Americans (mostly white, but some black) who fought and died to end slavery. There is more to the United States history than slavery. The people who founded this great nation accomplished great things in setting up our government and especially our constitution. Something to take from these old structures is that they were largely created by slaves. So when you are marveling at the beauty and architecture of a pre civil war home, you are seeing the talent of humans who are living in the worse conditions and persevered.
I loved magnolia gardens especially the azalea garden. Adjacent to it and I believe it’s included in the magnolia plantation fee-is the Audubon nature preserve where you can see many beautiful birds nesting in the island space there. It is all decking and asphalt walkways with ibises, snowy egrets, anhingas, herons, and alligators all around
This is right down the road from where I used to live. One of the Peacocks wandered down to our neighborhood and lived there for years before he died. His name was Reginald ☺️
Don't worry about not doing the house tour. It wasn't the original house. I think it has been rebuilt twice. Hope y'all got to eat at the restaurant there. It has some of the beat food in the area.
I just started following y'all a few weeks ago. I love the commentary in this video more than any of the others I've seen, but maybe that's because I also love history. This is my favorite of yours so far!
Thank you so much Tammy! Seeing a plantation was definitely on Ashley’s bucket list and after going it definitely should have been on mine. The combination of history and beauty was amazing!
Omg your little Goose is a critter lover just like me! I always point out fun facts about critters whenever I’m near them too! I live very close to this plantation and learned about it because I was looking for places near me where I could pet horses XD! I definitely want to visit!
Love your videos, as always. I'm a huge fan of history, and a big believer that we have to remember the good and the bad in our histories - otherwise we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes again. Thanks for sharing, safe travels!
You guys know I'm not a history buff, but even I felt things seeing the Magnolia Plantation [and I don't mean because DC's Legends of Tomorrow shot an episode there/created a set based on it]. I'm pretty sure it's a key point in America's history which would have really impacted you. 4:15-4:23 Todd and Copper!! 😭😭 Ash, why would you bring that up? It's like pouring salt in a really old wound. 8:55-9:00 "We need the cup to fight Voldemort and rescue what's-his-name?" 😂😂 Ok, that made up for that first bit.
The Chick's Life - RV Travel I feel like a big portion of my ministry will include recognizing pop culture references. 😆 It was only one episode this past , but jeez was it powerful.
Thank you for being so compassionate about the lives of slaves. Thank you for being brave enough to speak the truth about what it was. God bless your family always.🦋
Great video! You make me want to visit The Magnolia Plantation. I hope to visit SC in December this year. I had the chance to visit The Boone Plantation in SC last December. It's beautiful as well. That's where they shot the movie The Notebook, Queen and others. If you can, visit it. It's beautiful as well and very informative.
Awesome Video! I too love history, the good, the bad and the ugly. I also love historical architecture. I would love to go see a plantation house in person. The closest I have seen is a house in my area, that is in the plantation style, the original owner who had the house built was a doctor from the south, which makes sense. I went to Hawaii when I was 19 (a freshman in college), and went to Pearl Harbor, saw the Arizona and the USS Missouri, then also saw the Palace in Honolulu and it was a combination of seeing all three of those when history really became more than just something I read in a book or heard about in history class in school.
I had been there couple months a go. Beautiful and serenity. Jimmy ice creams are so delicious and fresh no wonder queue so long at King Street and also the fresh biscuites at the same street also oyster bar not far away. Leon"s oyster bar. Thanks so much for posting.
Why call it sad? Plantations were a part of history that we have corrected the injustices. Slaves were freed and given land. Don't view history with your vision of the world today. You can't compare yesterday to the future.

Emotional roller coaster. Must have been so pretty in its day.
Wow. This place was cool. Sad but cool.
Right! I don’t know whether to be impressed or saddened.

You should be educating your children about this.

I’m glad someone got the Todd and Copper reference. I can always count on you Zach! I didn’t know they filmed Legends if Tomorrow there.

First one
Cypress Gardens, where the note book and the Patriot was filmed, is only $10 to get in, it's cheaper than the $20-25 to get into magnolia.
