    You hike at a pretty good clip! Then there's the added steps of going back to retrieve the camera. Great footage.

    Thanks for the videos rebo. My friend Savior got on trail about 3 days behind you.
    Although he is now about a week behind since he came back to Sacramento for his son's graduation.
    Your videos have a been great way to see the terrain and conditions as well as the people and community he is enjoying.

    The shot at 4:40 is such a distinctive topo feature. We call it the "Butt Hole" Not much snow left. Will be passing thru the area in August, fingers crossed. Great vids. You should let us know what you're using to make such wonderful shots.

    Nice video, Rebo! and a new Sub! You must be getting to know that trail like the back of your hand! Did you run into the 'Kiwi Sisters' at all? I know they are already north of Sonora Pass! and moving rapidly! Be safe out there, and watch out for that dreadful 'post-holing'!

    Really wonderful videography, Rebo. Nicely done. I thru-hiked this route in the summer of 2018 from Cottonwood Pass to Red's Meadow. Like you, I did it alone. I was 64 years old then. I had to end there due to the Yosemite wildfires that year and flight plans back to WV. I have a wilderness permit for August 6 this summer, to finish what I began. I wonder about switching between color and black and white in this video. This is not a criticism, just an observation. What was your intention with that? Yours is among the finest JMT videos I have seen to date, and I have watched a lot of them. Keep up the good work and enjoy Muir's range of light. Stay healthy.

    • @skagited9617
      @skagited9617 4 роки тому

      Greetings! The B & W/color switching also caught my attention.... and I appreciate that you weren't offering criticism. An artist's manner of expression is their right to determine. I'm kind of wondering if Rebo didn't do it as a tribute to Ansel Adams, who cataloged the Sierra in volumes of B & W photos, (as you may well know). My uncle was a Seattle Mountaineer, and also dabbled in B & W, had met Adams, but also took thousands of color slides. He felt that B & W could capture a certain 'feel' of the mountains, especially when it's mostly rock and snow, that color overwhelmed. ???? All in the eyes of the beholder, right! Turning 68 soon myself, but a bum knee and hip keep me from anything too serious. I keep saying 'Post Armageddon, when I'm young and healthy again!!'

    Master class in how to shoot an excellent backpacking video. The work you put into this video and hike is just amazing. Watch my hiking videos to see how an amateure does it. Or actually don't. It's embarrassing. Excellent work Randy. I am humbled and inspired at the same time. Liked and subscribed.

    My question is this, I live 163 miles from Cottonwood Pass Trailhead which according to Google Maps is still "CLOSED", how did you bypass the worthless rangers that have been doing nothing since March? I know too much about state park "worthless" rangers as I live a mile from Pismo Beach State Park/Campground for 20 plus years.. Trust Me, They are worthless pain in the butts as myself and other beach lovers are constantly doing their jobs as they sit in their brand new air conditioned windows closed trucks !! and this is the beach where it's 65 degrees outside..

      I was up at cottonwood pass on May 24th via horseshoe meadows and the camp grounds are closed. There is a gate that is locked about 1/2 mile before both trailheads. You won’t have to worry about rangers - saw absolutely no one the entire time.

    • @SinMore
      @SinMore 4 роки тому +1

      Their worthless until they save your life or stop someone from starting a fire. I can't believe you would call Forest Rangers worthless. Sierra rangers are very cool. You have no idea what your talking about. I'm sure anyone who has spoken to Ranger Rob at Crabtree, would agree. JUST go into the forest and take a chance at a ticket. Don't bring a bear can, piss in the lakes, and keep food in your tent. sheesh.

      Trail Angel Reg Cook from Hidden Valley Ranch has been helping the community during this year's crisis.
      He arranged to meet hikers at the Gate where I got a ride up to the entrance.
      Google Maps needs to be updated where it says the Cottonwood Pass Trail is closed it should read gate entrance is closed but the trail is still open.
      From the Gate it is only a 15 - 20 minute walk.
