This is a REALLY well done documentary about Hyenas. It is not only easy to watch due to the insight of the creator to have such an abundance Equal Balance, showing a few of the social animal families in rest-cuddle-play vs death FOR food or death due to LACK of food. There is no gore for gores' sake. The narrator is calm and pleasant. Plus, there was no blatant manipulative background noise or music to alter the NATURAL experience many viewers wish for but cannot easily find on YT. SO MANY videos of African animal sightings, especially a prolonged sighting where all on location are massively enjoying the story unfolding before their eyes in real time there... but these same people CANNOT BE QUIET to let the people at their side, behind them, in front of them, in a different car 3-4 meters away ALL get the chatty Cathy or the Blabbermouth Bob on ALL the videos made of that special event. @@naturebrothers1844 I've been watching classic for long time. One of the interesting thing about these docs that they are simple, to the point, no exaggeration like Hollywood unlike today's documentaries.
*One of my favorite carnivores! They’re incredibly clever and successful predators that live in a matriarchal society. Endlessly fascinating creatures...*
Totally agree. I just wish there were more video's of them. I've watched every video out there. On the series called Serengetti they followed a hyena clan that was really good. They too have many hardships. I think that's why hyena moms allow the siblings to fight, only the strong can truly survive.
Very intelligent and adorable animal, unfortunatly misunderstood and dislike because of eating before killing but so many animals like the lions does it too, lycaons, snakes, crocs,spyders, wolves, orcas and many more
@@elmascavidal1797 No such thing as a "villain" in nature. "Villain" to me implies that they do things with malicious intent (which, of course, they don't).
Don’t believe everything you hear on these documentary’s!! Every documentary I have watched on Africa or wild animals which is about 30 of them! They say some missfactual stuff!!
Loved this film as well. Hats off to your producers for putting forth in front of our eyes ... this 8th Wonder of the World the SECRETS OF NATURE SERIES! ... Deliriously drunk with facts and better for it.
I wish that the lion king remade its more outdated view of hyenas. At least in the new movie they showed them as more intelligent than as shown in the original.
After reaching a particular age , Male lions are thrown out of their pride by the Dominant Male / Males . In real life Simba would have been driven out by Mufasa and Scar
Fun Fact: Hyenas were originally not planned to be in the movie, their place was originally thought for African wild dogs. But african wild dogs are endangered, so they changed it to spotted hyenas which are... well... everything but endangered, they are very dominant and have extremely large numbers. But it's still bad press for them and they haven't deserved it.
I love the secrets of nature and how animals are like in there wild homes? It's just rather amazing to see everything you don't normally get to seel if you were at a zoo it's just not the same thing?? Love this show and all the others too!!!! Thanks guys for a great job 🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🥰🌹🎀🎄💯💯💯💐💟🌟✨⭐⚡💫💘💕💓💖💖
And their laugh is not actually not a laugh as most will think. It means a very much different thing. Ive grown in a vicinity of wildlife. When you hear that laugh, it only servers to mean tension, and an alert situation. More like a cat wagging its tail. Interestingly, when a dog wags its tail , its a sign of peace, n friendship. Nature will use one gesture for different reasons in different species.
@@wykeishacraft6820 no i added that they could call for more to kill a Big prey or steal and on of course im talking about hyenas ,something you did not Mention.
I've never been s big hyena fan, but this was a great documentary and definitely made me appreciate them more. In fact, I was horrified by the killing of one of the hyenas by a male lion. 😢 I knew lions killed hyenas, but knowing it and witnessing it were completely different experiences. Poor hyena...
I love spotted hyenas! They’re so smart and cute minus the jaw that can literally bite off my arms, legs, or any body part of mine it wants. Still love them ♥️
Everyone has their own opinion. I used to dislike hyenas until I started watching their documentaries and through watching Kevin Richardson's UA-cam channel my opinion of them has changed dramatically. When you watch them and learn about the hierarchy system they have amongst themselves you see that they're not just savages that steal everyone's kill. They're highly intelligent and complex animals. That doesn't mean I'm dumb enough to go pet a wild hyena. I can appreciate the beauty in them and all animals. So thanks for your input.
i love all animals without a doubt but defineatly dont love em due to their intelligence or because of how cute they are many other animals are smart and attractive. Is there anything unique to hyenas you love? Edit: by the way i think all mammals that live in groups have an heirarchy system. lions, wildebeest, jackals, leapords, chimpanzees, gorrilas etc
I've never seen a documentary say that male hyenas take any part in caring. Most say they take no part at all. But this one says he takes a little part.
Well, "Carnivora" is the name of the biological order (the category between class and family), it's not a description of the diet. In the order carnivora there are two suborders: Feliformia (cat-like) and Caniformia (dog-like). Hyenas are part of the cat-like suborder. Insectivora was once the order for hedgehogs and moles, but is now outdated and was replaced with the order Eulipotyphla ("truly fat and blind")
Near my home, there are still few hyena colonies. Once for a while individual hyenas are spotted. I know we invaded their natural habits as part of city expansion. I get scared to walk alone after sunsets. Hello from 🇹🇿
It's because spotted hyenas are persistence hunters, they run their prey to exhaustion to the point where it can't fight back, finishing off their prey would be a waste of energy, and they aren't adapted to killing prey quickly like lions which are ambush hunters. However its because of that persistence that they have a higher hunting success rate than lions because its easier to hunt by running something to exhaustion than fighting prey while its still full of energy which carries a lot of risk that could lead to death.
What they actually said was that though hyenas appear more like canines, they are more closely related to cats than dogs. That's quite a difference from simply saying they're related to cats. They're still a good few brackets off from the felidae family. They're most closely related to the herpestidae family, which contains mongoose (as you said) and meerkats. They are part of the herpestoidea family.
@@ElysetheEevee Small correction: Herpestoidea is a superfamily containing mongooses and Malagasy carnivores (fossas and all other carnivores on Madagascar) and Hyaenidae which is the family of hyenas. The superfamily is part of the Infraorder Viverroidea together with the family Viverridae (most civets, genets and oyans). And that infraorder is basically one big branch of the suborder Feliformia. The other two branches are the family Nandiniidae (African palm civets) and the superfamily Feloidea which contains the families Felidae (cats) and Prionodontidae (Asiatic linsangs). And Feliformia is one of the two branches of the order Carnivora, the other one is the suborder Caniformia (dog-like). So basically: Carnivora (Order) -> Feliformia (Suborder) - - - -> Nandiniidae (Family) - - -> Feloidea (Superfamily) - - - -> Felidae/cats (Family) - - - -> Prionodontidae (Family) - -> Viverroidea (Infraorder) - - - -> Viverridae (Family) - - -> Herpestoidea (Superfamily) - - - -> Herpestidae/mongooses (Family) - - - -> Eupleridae/malagasy carnivora (Family) - - - -> Hyaenidae (Family) -> Caniformia (Suborder) [...] - - - -> Canidae/dogs (Family) You could see it this way: Hyenas share a father with mongooses but only a grandfather with cats and a great-grandfather with dogs.
Worth remembering that on those killing fields at night it is completely and utterly pitch black! absolutely no human vision whatsoever!...... just downright frightening.

Once again, good job!
love these classic documentaries
Me too I really like that they show a folktale at the beginning and the animals going about there daily lives is relaxing as well.
@M Pulverman
Wow! I didn't realize that and it makes sense. ThankQ for the information.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
How? They are ugly, and kill lions cubs.
@@HVAC356 Beauty is subjective, and any predator would take the opportunity to kill off a competitor's offspring, its not something unique to hyenas
Very intelligent and adorable animal, unfortunatly misunderstood and dislike because of eating before killing but so many animals like the lions does it too, lycaons, snakes, crocs,spyders, wolves, orcas and many more

Come on now Vicious is definitely a understatement for the 😈 Devil's Pet.
The most brutal predators are the wild dogs.

Hyenas have very strong jaws to bite through flesh all the way to the bone.
There the villains of the animal world
@@elmascavidal1797 No such thing as a "villain" in nature. "Villain" to me implies that they do things with malicious intent (which, of course, they don't).

Great video thanks 🍄
Nice story of the hyenas and other animals too.
Your videos never disappoint. Thanks a bunch!
"Hyenas are scared of male lions"
Hyena: -walks straight towards two male lions-
They’re only scared when they’re being chased.
I mean, who wouldn’t be?
I love these documentaries and you will learn more about animals and different places.
Don’t believe everything you hear on these documentary’s!! Every documentary I have watched on Africa or wild animals which is about 30 of them! They say some missfactual stuff!!
Wow great documentary! They are powerful looking predators. No wonder leopards don’t want any violent confrontations with them...
This is a very innovative way to present s documentary. It's excellent. Question does the hyena have an enemy.
Lions
Excellent documentary
Loved this film as well. Hats off to your producers for putting forth in front of our eyes ... this 8th Wonder of the World the SECRETS OF NATURE SERIES! ... Deliriously drunk with facts and better for it.
Very educational .
Thank you for sharing this video 🙂👍
Great Documentary and channel i enjoys watching!
Good documentary of nature
LOVED THIS. THANK YOU.
"The Lion King" did to Hyenas the same way "Jaws" did to sharks..way to go Hollywood, hope you feel proud!!
I like the lion king
Fun Fact: Hyenas were originally not planned to be in the movie, their place was originally thought for African wild dogs. But african wild dogs are endangered, so they changed it to spotted hyenas which are... well... everything but endangered, they are very dominant and have extremely large numbers. But it's still bad press for them and they haven't deserved it.
I was just thinking this I look down and there you are. Much love fam
The Folklores are just pure gold.
Learn a lot from hyenas
The Lion is furious at the Hyenas stupidity.
Hyenas: No, we just like to show that they’re not the boss around here.
Brown hyenas are actually quite beautiful!
Brown hyenas are solitary unlike the spotted hyena
the best naration..I love it
And their laugh is not actually not a laugh as most will think.
It has différents meanings ,one is excitement
Excitement, frustration, when it’s getting chased, or signaling other hyenas.
Or getting a rim job! Or hammered out! Or a blowy!! Etc
An animal that it's prey alive unlike other predators who suffocate thier prey!
No mention of striped hyenas?!
It’s a lead-in like this...that makes people think that hyenas are straight scavengers. They’re actually quite good at hunting.
I hate when they don’t fact check and spout off with false “facts”
I hate the way they gang up on a lone hyena especially when they clamp the poor bugger's ears in those vice-like jaws.
They are beautiful!
Hyenas are smart too, if they don't catch a meal by themselves they will go and take a meal from another predator or prey!

I've never been s big hyena fan, but this was a great documentary and definitely made me appreciate them more. In fact, I was horrified by the killing of one of the hyenas by a male lion. 😢 I knew lions killed hyenas, but knowing it and witnessing it were completely different experiences. Poor hyena...
awwww so cute !!!!!!!!!!!!!💘💘💘

I think you got some video stuck in your ad
I love spotted hyenas! They’re so smart and cute minus the jaw that can literally bite off my arms, legs, or any body part of mine it wants. Still love them ♥️
They are no way cure. Weirdly shape, scary looking face and personality.
Edit: by the way i think all mammals that live in groups have an heirarchy system. lions, wildebeest, jackals, leapords, chimpanzees, gorrilas etc
better than stupid lions what all-time big motion to hunting,
but just 1hyena kills the beast.

Cheetah Episode 8 The Whole Story not aired on this channel yet ?
there is some very strange and unwanted commentary here.but it's only at the beginning and the rest is very good.
I've never seen a documentary say that male hyenas take any part in caring. Most say they take no part at all. But this one says he takes a little part.
I was thinking the same thing, was surprised to hear that. I thought they would go into some more detail on that.
There’s more than one specie of hyenas some males in some species take more part in a roll off raising their offspring
@@tazcahoon4051 Yes, there are three others, the Aardwolf being the only dog like non bone crusher, but I'm specifically talking about spotted hyenas.
Really? I thought it was common knowledge that male Hyenas did the babysitting
04:25 a little confused ! "Ardwolf a strange carnivore that eats nothing but termites ."
Would I call it an
insectivore ?
Well, "Carnivora" is the name of the biological order (the category between class and family), it's not a description of the diet. In the order carnivora there are two suborders: Feliformia (cat-like) and Caniformia (dog-like). Hyenas are part of the cat-like suborder. Insectivora was once the order for hedgehogs and moles, but is now outdated and was replaced with the order Eulipotyphla ("truly fat and blind")

A few people I know . . . . . .!
Great documentary. Though a shame it neglected mentioning Striped Hyenas.
Near my home, there are still few hyena colonies. Once for a while individual hyenas are spotted. I know we invaded their natural habits as part of city expansion. I get scared to walk alone after sunsets. Hello from 🇹🇿
aren't Hyenas adorable ?
🥰🥰🥰🥰
They are vile
@@jupitercyclops6521 They probably think the same of you
What I don't like about hyenas is that they eat the animal while still alive, but anyway it's a best video
They eat enough Dead ones to balance

You could have just said: food is not something a predator sympathize with.
Are leopards about the same size and weight as hyenas?
Roughly same size. Leopard 🐆 solitary. Hy clan. Everything is everything

Does anybody know what that weird mini kangaroo-rabbit-mouse thing was at 10:45?

Interesting that now it is said that Hyenas are now related to cats. For a long time it was said they were in the Mongoose family. Which is it?
So basically:
Carnivora (Order)
-> Feliformia (Suborder)
- - - -> Nandiniidae (Family)
- - -> Feloidea (Superfamily)
- - - -> Felidae/cats (Family)
- - - -> Prionodontidae (Family)
- -> Viverroidea (Infraorder)
- - - -> Viverridae (Family)
- - -> Herpestoidea (Superfamily)
- - - -> Herpestidae/mongooses (Family)
- - - -> Eupleridae/malagasy carnivora (Family)
- - - -> Hyaenidae (Family)
-> Caniformia (Suborder)
[...]
- - - -> Canidae/dogs (Family)
You could see it this way: Hyenas share a father with mongooses but only a grandfather with cats and a great-grandfather with dogs.
