BTI is the best placed tobacco player. They wrote off the value of all their cigarette brands, while the others still act as if they'll have value in 50 years. I was buying until around May but the price went up too much, now hold.

Agree with the hold position for now. Thanks for sharing!

JP, you're incorrect on dividend payout. It's calculated in British £, so the currency fluctuation has caused the dividend to look unstable when it's converted to USD.

@@international_dividend Wouldn’t the dividend be adjusted for every year though? Or you’re saying because the price of british pounds to USD changes so much it causes the dividend to look unstable?

@JP_Dividends yes the latter. The USD-GBP changes everyday and when the £ is down, it will impact the amount received by US investors in USD. So I think the dividend has been stable and growing but the decline in the £ over the years just makes it look unstable.
That said, because of that you are correct that for US shareholders the amount received will be variable.

@@JP_Dividends Just looked at BAT the London ticker for British American. Data only from 2017 but consistent rises from 42 pence to 58.88 pence per share now. So it's the currency exchange rate that's making the dividend look (and feel) wonky.

@ gotcha thanks for the info! I appreciate it, the fluctuations did seem random so that makes a lot more sense.

I'm still dollar-cost-averaging into BTI. I think this is still a great company at a low valuation. Also, they are slowly transitioning into still keeping their customers addicted to nicotine without killing them through lung cancer. I see a buy and hold forever company here, same with Altria.

It was a buy in December 2023, right now it's a hold for me.

Reason for the drop in 2023 was a massive write off btw 🤔
It was a rather large write off and made the other tobacco stocks drop as well (including my MO holding). That’s why I know ☺️
Also: Taxwise BAT is better for Europeans short term. Long term MO is probably the better choice due to dividend growth and pricing power. And also because MO is faster at adapting to new markets. They did step into alcohol, cannabis and vapes rather effectively 🤔
I feel like MOs management is way more effective and forwardlooking 🤔

Gotcha thanks for providing some info on that! I do think MO is a better company and is diversifying better than BTI is! Thanks for the comment!

Ive had them on my radar for a while but i never bought. I already got Altria (MO) so i dont want to load up on tobacco stocks. Their numbers haven't won me over yet. Thanks for the vid JP!

Everything excessive is bad for you. Even buying too much in Amazon is bad

@@fvid88 The point was that abusing Amazon doesn’t cause cancer, abusing cigarettes does.
