I love GMT’s that are not dive style, and this one is awesome. What makes Marc great is he is an enthusiast first, businessman second. Thanks for the great review.
I have been looking at this watch for a few weeks and I am glad you reviewed it. Great video! There are definitely jewels among the Islander collection. It is easy to get lost though due to the number of models.
I'm thrilled that dual-time is getting more love lately. (Presumably, a large part of it is improvements in tech and less expensive movements.) And it's so cool to see all the experimentation from the smaller watch companies.
If you have Marc's ear, this with a polished bezel, slightly reduced size, and less contrasting GMT hand would be a phenomenal dress watch. This release really brought my attention back to Islander. Love it!
With Islander, everyone is all on the Northport, specifically the colored variants, but do not sleep on the black ISL-154. Northport has same dimensions as the Seiko SPB143 "62MAS" & the black version is the perfect anytime desk diver. Major advantage: the bezel is SKX007 compatible, so you can swap out inserts. The dimpled dial plays very well in the light & becomes essentially flat-matte black without direct light
Long Island Watch has some really great watches with great colors. I have 4 of them and want about 6 others. Great quality and service also. Thanks for the review on this one.
I agree that this watch has an immediately striking design. A little case of form over function regarding legibility but worth it occasionally for an interesting design.
The GMT complication is just a complication I don't care much about in an analog watch. My $20 Casio AE1200 will track four time zones and account for DST without all the hassle and thought that goes into setting a GMT. The Islander is a nice looking watch. I just don't get all the hype around GMT watches. It is like riding a horse cross country when you could drive or fly.
Dude, that's a great watch. My teen son loves his. If those are the attributes you value in a watch though, why are you even here at a channel that talks about mechanical watches?
I'm on the wait list hoping Marc will restock soon. I would never buy anything from Ali Express. I rather buy from somewhere like Long Island Watch knowing I'm getting a fully backed quality product. Great review.
If Mark makes a field watch version of this with a blocky numeral font that's a bit old-timey yet still legible and has enough real estate for a thicker lume outline, he'll have my money.
I am waiting/hoping for Marc to re-release the Islander Republic (ISL-138) GMT with a Miyota 9075 movement. That is one of the few GMT watches with Arabic's on the dial (3-6-9-12). All the others have stick indices and look either either like a Rolex or Grand Seiko clone. With a travelers GMT movement in there, I think it would be one of the best aviation styled watches on the market. Marc, hope you are listening!
I have the blue dial version. Wish it was a little smaller. It’s a little too big for my 6.5” wrist. It’s a nice price at a great price but if you prefer smaller watches this is not the model for you.
Hi Shane, this is a very, nice watch. However, would this not have been a traveler GMT i (f Marc put in the Miyota 9075)? Yes, Marc has two other 9075 GMTs but this color is the nicest one.
Macro footage usually doesn't. Honestly, those never look good, especially with textured dials and brushed finishes. So it's good to know that it's different when looking at it from arm's length.
I love some of their designs but I can't get over the logo or the font for "Islander." IMO, the logo should elevate the watch and this just doesn't do it for me.

The logo looks way better with Islander written underneath it. Looked aliexpress before. May start buying them now.

Absolutely gorgeous watch. I can see why you bought it!! Cheers man👊
Very sharp! I just checked out the site, & black is available. There seems to be more contrast between the black dial & hands, too.
I think there would be.
Damn! How did I miss this watch at the Wind Up watch fair?
Nice Grand Seiko pickup, btw.

What a great review
Thanks!
It has a lot of cool design features, but I am not a GMT fan maybe to do that I don’t need one, but It is a nice watch in spite of it being a GMT

Personally ive never been too bothered about islander watches designs. This is one of the nicest gmts ive seen
Yep , I missed the Melville too. The black is still available . For me the textured dial is too much . I adore the "inner bezel" though .
Black handset instead of polished would make that better
Beautiful watch, 40 mm is a little small for my taste.
1:46. I wish Marc would bring back the 38mm Spork.

That would be intersting.

Grand Seiko has a GMT and this Islander is definitely the homage. The Thor Hammer second hand counter balance is a playful touch I think.

I'd like to see darker hands because legibility ain't great.
I think it's better on the other colorways, but grey on grey contrast is a problem.
Mark my word, Mark marks time, in a totally relative way. Ok... you too. 😋
😂

I'd love to see a 9075 version, but I think it would double the price. Mark has one of the cheapest 9075s out there and I think it's about 570.
Hello, what is that casio at aroun the 9:00 mark?
Looks like a Casio MTP-1370D-7A2 with an aftermarket strap.
Blaze is right. It's a MTP1370L-7A. Great looking Casio. Working on a review of it too.
@@RelativeTime Nice!
There are a lot of things happening on the dial. An eye catcher, but not for me. Appreciate the design choices tho.
Please tell me where these watches are made?
If you want the specifics, you'll probably have to ask Mark, the owner of the brand. But I'm 99% sure it's in China, like most watches these days.
@@RelativeTime Ok, thanks👍
My god the macro footage doesn't take any prisoners, the fit and finish on this watch is, well, not great. At least it's cheap though.

There are a lot of people that feel the same, but he likes that logo.
Not legible at all. Never make the hands the same color as the dial, obviously
