That was Adam Rupp - beatboxer/percussionist extraordinaire playing his infamous "nomonica". Adam "Chance" - baritone was making the mouth harp sound. These guys are simply incredible! Hope to see more Home Free reactions! Btw, fans of Home Free are called home fries ----> 🍟😅
Congrats on finding the most incredible acapella group out there, and yes, I'm biased, and yes, they are better than Pentatonix. Don't @ me. You will LOVE going down the Home Free rabbit hole. They do mostly country music covers and originals, but can perform all styles, such as the R&B classic Boys II Men cover of "End of the Road," and the Doobie Brothers' "Listen to the Music." Get ready to be flooded with the Home Fries (Home Free fans) in the comments! Great reaction, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Please react to more!
UA-cam was made for Home Free and they have made great use of this platform. Acapella music doesn’t have much of a presence on the AM/FM dial especially the modern genres. Originally HF was started by beatboxed Adam Rupp and his brother Chris. Chris left to do solo work and was replaced by another Adam who goes by his last name Chance differentiating from beatboxer Adam. In the Butts remix you will see Chris wearing a black western style hat. You will also hear the whistling talent of lead tenor Robb. I’m looking forward to seeing your reaction to the Butts. 😂ps: the two previous commenters were just wrong.
@@vvoof2601 I disagree with your first statement. But that is because I totally agree with your second statement. I came here as it was a Home Free reaction and I am a Home Fry. You came here because? (An honest enquiry).
You ladies have just barely scratches the surface of how unbelievably amazing these guys are. The Home Fries (the Home Free fans) are a rampant flock, so watch more & we'll be here for it! 😉🥰🥰
Welcome to the rabbit hole known as Home Free. They are my favorite acapella group, and Adam Rupp is a world-class beatboxer. They have a ton of content for you to enjoy. Great reaction.
You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there (5 octave range) & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound (drums, harmonica etc.). This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.
I'd confidently recommend most any of Home Free songs and covers. They do many types of songs, from doo-wop to Christmas hymns to modern songs. Really, give their diversity a chance.
Hold my beer when you listen to more Homefree. Helplessly Hoping is a musical hug. Butts Remix will have you laughing. Amazing Grace will take you to church and their Christmas stuff is second to none.

Watching your reactions to HOME FREE are great. Need to do more of them. Such a great group of singers. If they ever get close to you, you need to see them in person. They sound just as good live as the studio version.
Wonderful introduction to your channel for me. Home Free definitely harkens back to the country gospel quartets of decades past. In fact, their mentors are the Oak Ridge Boys whose current lineup has been together for almost 5 decades and are STILL touring. The Oak Ridge Boys, themselves, began as a gospel quartet back in the 1940. The current lineup came together in the mid 1970s. Home Free did a collaboration with them on a cover of the Oaks' biggest hit "Elvira". Two powerful vocal groups blend seamlessly while showing off the talents of the individuals in each group. Well worth the reaction/podcast time.
Hey y'all love your reaction anything that home free does is amazing. If you like them then may I suggest voiceplay another absolutely amazing Acapella group.
These guys are the best out there. Adam rupp is just insane with his beat boxing. Everyone can sing . You so need to check out "How Great Thou Art" talk about harmonies. And yes, check out the butts remix. Funny as heck. You have. Just went down the rabbit hole with these guys.
If you play more Home Free, us Home Fries will find your channel quickly. We follow the group as well as their individual projects and are a passionate group of supporters. Great reaction!
Welcome to the best, in my opinion, acapella group out there, although Pentatonix and Voiceplay are also fantastic. Home Free is the only Country all vocal band, they have a wide variety of covers and original material that covers all genres. All sounds are created by voices and they have a "freak of nature" vocal percussionist. The harmonies are unmatched...welcome to the rabbit hole. Austin Brown is the high tenor, Rob Lundquist is a lyrical tenor, Adam Chance is the baritone/bass and was making the mouth harp sound, Tim Foust is the bass with a 5+ octave range and Adam Rupp is the beatboxer legend. In older videos there is Chris Rupp who co-founded the group with his brother Adam. They also won the 4th season of "The Sing Off". All individuals are extremely talented individually and have their own projects...but together it is magic, and they sound the same, if not better, live. Subscribed to follow you on this journey.
Hello, another Coloradoan here, you are going to absolutely fall in love with these guys. They can sing anything, and have. You will love the Butts Medley.
I’ve been a huge fan ever since I stumbled across these guys while recovering from shoulder surgery in February 2016. There is absolutely no better acapella group as far as I’m concerned. Welcome to the rabbit hole….it’s wide, deep and so varied! They cover so many genres across the board, they are not strictly country. Tighten your seatbelts, hold on tight and enjoy the adventure!
My two favorite capela groups are VoicePlay and Home Free. The bass from VoicePlay Geoff Castellucci just did a LOW Bass cover of this song. They are both on my playlist. Geoff and Tim's bass voices are amazing.
The song was in the song "O Brother Where Art Thou?" However, that also was a cover. This song is over 100 years old and comes out of Appalachia. I think you will enjoy reacting to more of their music. For your next Home Free reactions, I'd suggest The Butts Remix and Ring of Fire. However, you'll find their catalog is deep and worth a dive into. For something different consider Jumpin Jive by Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers. A very old but amazing performance.
Well, hi! 'So nice to see a female reactor group, for a change. Yup, I was in school choirs, too, so I love acapella like Home Free and VoicePlay, especially. They all have a beat boxer, now, and act out themes , comedy, any kind of creative performance that strikes them. Fun suggestions: Home Free doing "Hillbilly Bone" and VoicePlay doing "Hoist the Colours".
Your first time, huh ladies??? Home Free started in 2000, won the Sing Off in 2013, and are the BEST a capella! What a wonderful and deep rabbit hole. For more harmony, try Helplessly Hoping or How Great Thou Art. They sing all genres.
They filmed this in coastal Alabama, much of which is bayou like the southern part of Louisiana. It started raining during the filming, but they had to get it done, so they kept going - you can see them getting wetter, and occasionally you can see the drips of rain. Everything was produced vocally, including the vinyl record popping at the very beginning. The droning sound was an imitation of a jaw harp (known by various names), which the lady on the right mimed effectively. Chance (dark vest here) does this by Mongolian throat singing, but they use a looper as it is hard on his throat to keep doing it. The rhythmic dop-dops are done by Rob, in the overalls, also extended by using a looper, as it would prevent him from doing his other parts. The looper is also used for the beatbox percussion while Adam Rupp (no beard) does his 'nomonica' solo.
Congratulations! You guys know how to do a reaction video! You watch the whole video then give your reactions. You are in an elite group that actually know how to do a reaction video. Most others would rather stop the video every 30 seconds to hear the sound of their own voice. It seems like that’s as long as they can go without hearing the sound of their own voice. So thank you for an honest reaction video!
Get ready to ride the storm which is HOME FREE!!! Your sub base is about to explode💥Home Fries are a loyal and fierce group of fans!!! Great reactions! Many Home Fries would recommend not to react to the Butts Remix until you have heard a few more of their songs! Enjoy the ride young ladies!!! Hello from Texas🤠🤠🤠
Caution - Home Free is highly addictive. They sing almost every genre from goofy to gospel. Three of them are song writers so there are lots of originals as well as covers. They don't have a lead singer (they're also ego-free), whomsoever sounds best, sings it regardless if another wrote it. Bonus: They have a world-wide fan base and your subscriptions will rise exponentially with playing them. (One of them just put out a new original song - no video yet - it's had over 25,000 hits in 4 days).
I'm a Home Fry. I saw them in concert a couple of months ago in Orange, TX. It was a party! Tim is from the Golden Triangle (Beaumont, TX) and he and his brother-in-law boiled crawfish for the group out in the parking lot before the concert. I thought he was going to blow the speakers a couple of times. Check out HF and The Oak Ridge Boys doing Elvira! :-)
Fun reaction, I'll be looking for more Home Free reactions - can't go wrong with any of their songs. Whatever your mood, you will find something to match it.
Great and fun reaction! Other Home Fries have offered good suggestions, I would like to add a couple more recommendations. For really good harmony I would suggest Helplessly Hoping and/or Seven Bridges Road. The more you listen to Home Free, the more you will find they will leave a smile on your face. They do perform some more serious pieces as well. They are very serious about their craft but don't take themselves too seriously and are awsome to see live.
I’m here for Home Free. Looking forward to seeing more reactions. Just don’t watch/react to Mayday until you’re really familiar with the group and who sings which part.
Another reactor pointed out that Tim Faust, the bass, actually drops an octave when he ends his solo and goes into the harmony slide. I notice it every time now.
You were asking about relations. The original group that won first place on the show "the SingOff" had Chris Rupp, brother to vocal percussionist Adam Rupp. He left the group to work with his sister and explore some solo stuff. But he stays in contact with them and still does some of their arrangements. He was replaced with Adam Chance who is the groups current baritone. The bass that made all three of your jaws drop was the extraordinary Tim Foust. There is no other way to say it, he is a vocal beast. He is also a pretty good song writer. Should you venture further down the rabbit hole you will come across several written by him or their high tenor Austin Brown. And the bearded wonder, teddy bear of a man Rob Lundquist will surprise you in his leads of several different songs. All in all, welcome to the Home Fries version of the a Capella train.
This genre was originally called “Hillbilly Music”. It's now known as “Country Music” It's an old traditional folk song that was published in a songbook in 1913 as, the “Farewell Song”. It was later released as a recording in 1928, as “Man of Constant Sorrow”. That's the version they covered in, “I Brother”, and here.
Watch the "Drum Solo" with Adam Rupp. Watch "When a Man Loves a Woman" with Austin Brown that was done during the lockdown. Watch "Helplessly Hoping" with baritone Adam Chance singing tenor and being joined by tenor Rob Lundquist in perfect unison. Watch "How Great Thou Art" with beautiful Austrian mountain scenery and for Adam Rupp singing "It is Well" and "With my heart". Watch Cam sing "Mayday" then watch Home Free do it in the same key with bass Tim Foust singing tenor and watch to the end for Chance showing his range!!
Yes, these guys are the best acapella group out there. If you find yourselves loving acapella then the next group I strongly recommend is Voice Play. Geoff Castellucci is another fantastic bass singer. I particularly love Voice Play's version of Oogie Boogie. This one really showcases Geoff's range. That said, ALL the guys in Home Free have wonderful voices. A truly fun song is Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget. Ring of Fire is great because they feature Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix (my third fav on the acapella road trip) and he and Tim hit some truly low notes. Enjoy the rabbit hole! ...it's called a jaw harp. No, none of the members are related. The beatboxer's brother used to be part of the group, but he left several years ago.
lol. oh you guys are going to love this ride. Pick a genre, they do it better than the original. For you guys I suggest best solo - When a Man Loves a Woman, Best cover - End of the Road, funniest - we'll go with Butts Remix but many good choices, Best arrangement - Do you hear what i hear (yep xmas but like you've never heard it) and finally couple of faves - One Man Band, Mayday and Bless this Broken Road. And then there are there individual performances. Tim Faust - doo wop album, Austin _ Bring Him Home (amazing)
Welcome to Home Free, they have over 1.6m subs on YT alone... The more you react to them the more view and subs you will probably get... Home Free fans, AKA Home Fries are a very close knit family, you will be overwhelmed with requests, we love this group a lot!!! So, hope you start your journey down this rabbit hole... some reactors actually set a day aside for HF reactions, like HF Fridays, just because they get so many requests and because they have became Home Fries themselves... HF does a lot of covers, but also they have many of their own songs... They are mostly country acapella, but they do have some R&B and gospel covers they do as well..... New sub by the way!!
As I understand it, they have a Lead Tenor, a Harmony Tenor, a Lead Bass, a Harmony Bass, and Adam doing beat-box. However, nobody stays in their role, they constantly switch back and forth. The Lead Bass has been known to get low enough to shred the speakers. He has also taken Lead Tenor quite capably on other songs. As you explore their work, you can find concert tapes of Adam doing a drum solo that is simply amazing.
Pick a genre. Pick a cover to find out how they've improved it. 3 have solo careers and collaborate with legends and rising stars. And, yes, you will always understand the words. Fun reactors get a big thanks.
It started raining while they were filming. You can see Rob’s shirt is getting wet. I think the wink that Austin gave us was a fortunate catch of him blinking a drop of rain away, but Austin does like to flirt with the camera, so it totally could be him giving us a wink. Either way, he did a phenomenal job with his part, as did all the guys.
The instrument you are looking for at the beginning end is a jawharp. Snoopy's favorite instrument. ua-cam.com/video/1q5fEzDciD0/v-deo.html You will have a good time exploring Home Free. They won "The Sing Off" back in 2013 the season after Pentatonix won the same competition. They are known as the world's first (and maybe only) country vocal band but, they can sing any genre from opera to classic rock. You will get a lot of views too. The "Home Fries" are pretty steadfast in their support of the band. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It is likely to lead you to a number of a capella performers as well (Peter Hollens, The Hound and the Fox, Voiceplay, etc). P.S: If The Butts medley/remix was suggested, that arrangement is ridiculous.
two more pieces to try would be Nessun Dorma (you'll recognize it when you hear it) performed by Rob and Austin (the 2 Tenors of HF) and End of the Road
Some mentioned about Pentatonix and Voiceplay, I know VP was in competition with Home Free in NBC's acapella contest called Sing Off with Home Free won their season. Pentatonix won their season in 2011. Some of them joined other groups on songs in videos. Both HF and VP collaborated in a video. Tim Foust, Bass singer, has vocal range of 4 to 5 octaves. Both Rob (singer with glasses) and Austin are tenors. Adam Chance is baritone singer with also bass doing mouth harp effect. Then Adam Rupp beatboxer. All acapella groups are awesome! React to Pentatonix and Voiceplay especially their bass singer, Geoff Castellucci. Like Tim's, his vocal range is also 4 to 5 octaves w/ subharmonics: extreme low notes.
Subbing. If you continue to react to Home Free, you will be swamped (heh) by Home Fries (fans). There are over 150 videos and they range from extremely funny to heart wrenchingly amazing.
If you liked this you should also listen to The Dead South: In Hell I'll be in Good Company. Not a capella, but lots of fun. As for acapella, you should also try Penatonix. Their songs Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Sounds of Silence are all outstanding. I have a hard time deciding which group I like better, Home Free or Pentatonix. Both are outstanding.
All of the singers are GREAT, but the Beat Boxer, Adam Rupp, you should see Adam Rupp's Drum Solo video to see just what he can do. And he has only gotten better since that time. Great reactions, ladies.
Since you are into harmonies try their overs of "Helplessly Hoping" or "In the Blood". Both are impressive. For the fun side try their "Butts Remix". They have a lineup that goes for days. They are not related or even from the same State or city. If you are into church songs try their version of "How Great Thou Art".
Oh, the jaw harp was done by Chance (their baritone/bass)…he’s said it’s Not easy to do (but Awesome ‼️🙃)….. They’re not related…but, Great friends 🫶🏼‼️🙃….The Home Free rabbit hole is one Fun trip ….WELCOME 🙃‼️🙃
I'm right there with all the other Home Fries who've posted already. Git on down that rabbit hole! Yer gonna love it! BTW - new sub here. I just watched you and @BlackPegasus reacting to Ren. Howdy!
It’s actually not from “the George clooney-movie”. Man of constant sorrow was written in the beginning of the 20th century, with the title “Farewell Song” and was published by a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky named Dick Burnett. A recording from 1928 gave it it’s title known today.
None of the guys shown on screen are related. The group was started by Adam Rupp (beat-boxer extraordinaire) and his brother Chris Rupp (tenor/baritone), who has now left the group, but showed up in a lot of their earlier songs, including the Butts Medley you mentioned at the beginning, as well as Ring of Fire, featuring Avi Kaplin, who was the bass of Pentatonix at the time. After listening to the Sea Shanty Medley, check out their latest song, Skull & Bones. It was commissioned by Ubisoft as the theme song for a new pirate-themed video game, but it is a great song on its own too.
Look up jaw harp, mouth harp, or jew harp. Thats what that last instrument was supposed to be. Dive deep into Home Free, its worth it! Best of luck for you!
Home Free is great. So is VoicePlay, and while I feel like Pentatonix has taken a step back since Avi left, don’t underestimate them. VoicePlay are basically the drama club kids of the ACapella groups. They do a lot of show tune pieces (you HAVE to listen to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto, but they do a cover of the Metallica song Nothing Else Matters that is amazing). You will want to check them out, too.
The song dates to 1913, but the most famous performance (until this cover) was its use in the movie in 2000. Memorial Day is a week away, and if you like great harmonies behind HF's deep voices (basses Tim Foust and Adam Chance), NOW is the time to experience HF's version of the Dire Straits song "Brothers in Arms" ua-cam.com/video/_ChD2WjD2tY/v-deo.html
This is an old American Folk Song that pre-dates 1913. It was old when Dan Burnett published it in 1913 - he is not the composer of this song, merely transcribed it.
@@patriciab8876 If this excerpt from a Wikipedia article is accurate, we'll never know the song's origin...because Dick Burnett couldn't remember! >>The song was first published in 1913 with the title "Farewell Song" in a six-song songbook by Dick Burnett, titled Songs Sung by R. D. Burnett-The Blind Man-Monticello, Kentucky. There exists some uncertainty as to whether Dick Burnett is the original writer. In an interview he gave toward the end of his life, he was asked about the song: Charles Wolfe: "What about this "Farewell Song" - 'I am a man of constant sorrow' - did you write it?" Richard Burnett: "No, I think I got the ballad from somebody - I dunno. It may be my song ..."

Chance is mimicking a mouth harp (sounds like a didgeridoo), used in many bluegrass songs. It is made by a throat singing technique i am told,
A Mongolian technique.

Ladies welcome to the rabbit hole. These guys are amazing and just as good live. Pick anything they do and it's fire 🔥
Welcome to the party Ladies! If I admit I know what...puff, puff, pass means... will I end up in You Tube jail🤔 Spread the love 🐶😎🇺🇸
The blonde in the corner looks blitzed😂😊
Welcome to Home Free! The best harmonies ever. New subscriber because of them. Enjoy!
Another reactor pointed out that Tim Faust, the bass, actually drops an octave when he ends his solo and goes into the harmony slide. I notice it every time now.
Nice reactions, you hit most of the important points.
It's called a no monica.
I meet them in person a few years ago they are really good group of guys.
They seem fun!
Geoff Castelluci has recently done a bass singer cover of this song, which is equally fabulous
The song was written in 1915 and the instrument is called a Juice Harp
Middle lady contributing POV "His balls dropped." LOL
lol. oh you guys are going to love this ride.
Should definitely watch Home Fred’s “ When a Man Loves a Woman”. Totally awesome
Pick a genre. Pick a cover to find out how they've improved it. 3 have solo careers and collaborate with legends and rising stars. And, yes, you will always understand the words. Fun reactors get a big thanks.
Welcome to Home Fry Nation. An incredible Rabbit hole to discover.

You will have a good time exploring Home Free.
The guy leading off is Austin Brown, lyric tenor, Rob in overalls is tenor 2
two more pieces to try would be Nessun Dorma (you'll recognize it when you hear it) performed by Rob and Austin (the 2 Tenors of HF) and End of the Road
9:11
That movie you're referring to is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
In case you were wondering?
This song was written in 1913..
Yeah, you could call this a cover! lol
This song was originally written around 1914.
Please go down this rabbit hole they do other kinds of music but they are country base
Love also Voice play no instruments either There Bass is OUTSTANDING
Hell yea this is awesome.
Did you hear the bass, after his solo, drop another octave for the harmonies he was then singing with everyone?
Home Free is seriously the best 🔥🔥🤘🤠🤘
Definitely 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯!!!!!!
🤠❤HOMEFREE ❤🤠
For some more of Adam's 'Nomonica' try 'Ain't goin' down til the sun comes up'
Subbing. If you continue to react to Home Free, you will be swamped (heh) by Home Fries (fans). There are over 150 videos and they range from extremely funny to heart wrenchingly amazing.
Please do the ," Butt medley" by HF. ......or the cover of "all about that bass "... .girls will LUV IT!!
Get ready for tomorrow’s release!!! By far one of my favorite reacts! ❤❤🎉
If you are into church songs try their version of "How Great Thou Art".
the instrument you're thanking about is a mouth harp
Beatbox plus yodeling in there too
Oh, the jaw harp was done by Chance (their baritone/bass)…he’s said it’s Not easy to do (but Awesome ‼️🙃)…..
They’re not related…but, Great friends 🫶🏼‼️🙃….The Home Free rabbit hole is one Fun trip ….WELCOME 🙃‼️🙃
Happy 110th birthday, Man of Constant Sorrow. 2023.
I'm right there with all the other Home Fries who've posted already. Git on down that rabbit hole! Yer gonna love it!
BTW - new sub here. I just watched you and @BlackPegasus reacting to Ren. Howdy!
Welcome aboard! Thanks for the support!
The funky boing sound is called a jaw harp. Very old instrument used in hills music and bluegrass genre.
PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE HOME FREE TRY BROTHERS IN ARMS
It’s actually not from “the George clooney-movie”.
Man of constant sorrow was written in the beginning of the 20th century, with the title “Farewell Song” and was published by a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky named Dick Burnett.
A recording from 1928 gave it it’s title known today.
Perhaps you need to see Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust on Misty Mountains Cold?
Welcome to the rabbit hole….tell them Home Fries!
How Great Thou Art is also really good, filmed in the Alps.
Every one of you missed the bass singer drop an entire octave when he rejoined the group after his mid-song solo. You should go back and listen again.
Ladies, the thirst for Tim is real. Just go with it! 😂😂😂
Look up jaw harp, mouth harp, or jew harp. Thats what that last instrument was supposed to be.
Dive deep into Home Free, its worth it!
Best of luck for you!
New sub for more Home Free!! I recommend Hillbilly Bone, Country Fried Pop, Some Girls Do and End of The Road.
If you liked the bass singing of Tim Faust, you’ll love “Geoff Castellucci - misty mountains”
It’s called a JEW’S HARP.
Please listen to Home Free cover Helplessly Hoping for harmony perfection. It is a folksy song by Crosby Stills and Nash. Great reaction...sub'd.
You definitely need to check out their cover of ring of fire with avi kaplan
You guys missed the hip hop run that Rob Lindquist did towards the end… snuck it in there!
Oh please really do The Butts Medley. It will show you a completely different side of the boys. 😁
Watch tomorrow’s episode!!! Super fun!!
In an interview he gave toward the end of his life, he was asked about the song:
Charles Wolfe: "What about this "Farewell Song" - 'I am a man of constant sorrow' - did you write it?"
Richard Burnett: "No, I think I got the ballad from somebody - I dunno. It may be my song ..."
