- I made a BOOKSHELF from the brand new TABLET STANDS that I found at Dollar Tree for today's Make-It Monday video! Make-It Monday is being shared on Tuesday due to a busy weekend, but I didn't want to wait a whole week to share a new crafting video! This was so easy and so much fun!

Where the Wild Things Are
And
Alexander’s Horrible No Good Very Bad Day
Love the shelves!
I love this idea! My favorite childhood book is World Famous Muriel. I've got it stashed away in my memory box, and I'm going to pass it down to my daughter ❤. Your channel is just the best because you take face value DT items, and you figure out ways to repurpose. I love your channel!
A favorite book of mine from my childhood was Stand Back, Said the Elephant, I'm Going To Sneeze!
I am going to do this in my kitchen above my shelves to hold my cook books. Most are paperback and rest are handmade by me. Also great for small kitchen decor. I am hoping to go to the Dollar Tree this weekend and pick them up.
My kids grew up with "Goodnight Moon" and anything with The Berenstain Bears!
My Aunt Gisela Tobein - Sherman wrote Children's Chapter books so I would read a chapter a night of her books to my children (when they were old enough) - King Of The Class and There's A Snake In The Toilet. I remember going to bookstores and Libraries requesting her books just to give her a boost in sales. She was so talented and so much fun to be around. She snorted when she laughed too. I miss her a lot! I miss going to her book readings at schools & cafes and watching her performing in skits & plays.
I used to read Agatha Christie & Stephen King novels. My dream was to become a writer like my Aunt. I have had a few things published and won a few awards but nothing spectacular enough to get me on the map! LOL!
I feel close to you as I lost my Mom unexpectedly November 1, 2022. I miss her so much. You never really know what you have until it's gone. When you talk about your Mom, I feel your pain. I have notebooks that when I am missing her or somebody else in my heart. I write a memory down or write them a letter. Just something that helps me. I put it in a box on a shelf so it doesn't consume me. It's hard because I am now taking care of my 80 year old father who still has her hairbrush, toothbrush and makeup on the Bathroom counter. I moved it during the week I was there (April 14-21, 2024) and he demanded I put it all back how she left it so I did that on April 29, 2024. Almost 53 years of marriage. 😢😢
That is so sweet, it would be hard not to see those familiar things on the counter. ❤ I love the idea of writing down memories over time and tucking them away. Like one at a time, so you don't get overwhelmed. We lost my dad in December and I haven't really dealt with it yet, so I love the idea of gently dipping into the thoughts, writing down a memory, and then putting it away. Baby steps! ❤
@@megan2176 I am sorry for your loss. Write it down! Writing anything down is therapeutic for so many things.
I am a Domestic Abuse survivor as well so I have many boxes. For the bad memories I use paper and after writing I fold it and place it into the box. It's part of me but not all of me...that's why it's hidden away but still in "plain sight."
@katrinagraham7615 Wow, that's really powerful. Confronting the past in a way where you're in control, owning your story, not letting it own you. And I agree, writing or typing your thoughts into sentences really does help with realizing how you feel. UA-cam comments are great for that! I've shared more in comment sections than I do in real life, it's cathartic! And if I share too much, there's always the delete option! 😅
@@megan2176 I share too much as well. BUT they say Sharing is caring! Whichever way you want to take that! Sharing a personal experience & coping strategies is showing you care right!!
I did have one of those voice recorder things when I was younger. I used to talk to it whenever my parents fought and then my mother would take it out on me....probably because I was always getting into the middle of things just to protect my siblings. I was strong for them but my tape recorder, a pen and paper were strong for me!
My parents never broke me. I didn't get to choose my parents...nobody does. You have to make good on what you have. My Mom had some great qualities about her. She used to make the BEST butter tarts and Lemon Meringue Pie. I cannot eat either of them now. I truly do miss her. She tried her best with what she had too. My Dad stopped drinking when I was 10 with a few setbacks and "wagon falls" but with his childhood...I think it could have been worse to be honest. He relies on me and I enjoy him now and that is all that matters. He is my Dad.
As for the memory of your father, you can always make his favorite foods on his Birthday and Father's Day and favorite Holiday. This year, I will be making Shepherds Pie with Homemade Cheese Bread sticks (My Mom's favorite!)
Good luck to you & I really wish you the best. Keep writing! 💗
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I appreciate these words of support and for hearing your story. It helps me so much to hear people share their grief story. I am sorry for your loss.
This turned out so beautiful!
I loved the collection of 'Little Miss & Mr. Men' books when I was super young as I couldn't really sit still for long periods and they are smaller books. They always had a lesson about how to behave in social situations.
Like, Little Miss Bossy would realize it's good to contribute, and not to go overboard, because she could miss some really good ideas from others.
And Mr. Nosey realized some secrets (like his friends planning his surprise birthday party) are secret for a very good reason.
When I got a bit older I loved 'The Digging-est Dog' and would make my parents read it over and over.
. There's A Wocket In My Pocket
. The Cat In The Hat
. The Velveteen Rabbit
. The Giving Tree
. Frog & Toad
Hope this gives some ideas, I'm late posting this comment
(Edited for spelling/grammer)
The Monster at the End of This Book. It was my absolute favorite as a child. I buy it for anyone I know who has a baby. (It is a Sesame Street book for any who don’t know). Also it’s important to let those 3m strips “cure” for an hour before adding weight. It helps them stick longer over time, especially if your home gets very warm or cold. Love the creative way you used those tablet holders!! 🧡🖤🧡
Thank you so much! I had one student who LOVED The Monster at the End of This Book. I also LOVED it when I was a kid!
My childhood favourite book was Enid Blyton's The Faraway Tree/Folk of the Faraway tree series, but it has to be the Geraldine Hargreaves illustrated version! My favourite book from my kids' childhood is One Grey Mouse! It teaches numbers and colours and rhyming, and is just so fun to read, plus the pictures are plasticine art!! Love love love!! ❤📚
I actually haven't heard of either of those books! I will have to keep my eye out for them!
I have really been loving all our DIY's I am definitely going to try this in my office.
This is one of your best ideas yet! Amazing! And a book series that I loved and still do is the Frog and Toad books.
Thank you so much! I love Frog and Toad as well!
Fantastic idea!! My favorite children’s book is The Giving Tree. I also loved reading I’ll Love You Forever to my kids when they were smaller. My kindergarten students love these series, The Wonky Donkey, Pete the Cat, and Pig the Pug. I found a bunch of the cut out books at a yard sale last year. They are from my childhood era and I had to buy them all! lol
How did you make it through I love you Forever?? I got emotional every time I tried, so had to hide it away. Such a sweet book though. 🥹🥺🥹😭😭
I agree! So many great titles! My kids love, 'Pete the Cat' right now!
I know! That book makes me cry!
I didn't peticular like to read books when I was young. There was "Snow white" & "Sleeping Beauty" I probably saw saw the movie before the books came out! I was 6or 7yrs old.
But as I got older in junior high & high school, I started liking to read more. One I remember is "A tree grows in Brooklyn" there's a book & a movie of it. Then "Congo" it was a hard one to read, but I couldn't put it down. "The Andromeda strain", that was a neat one, Si-Fi. I love Si-Fi. So I think it's really nice that you are honoring your Mom with the book library outside & the one inside too! Thanks for sharing! ♥️☺️🫂🥀🌹🌷🦉🍄🦋✨️
That looks awesome, what a great idea
My great granddaughters love me to read to them!!! The love just about any book!! Our new favorite is the Winky Donkey!! Very hilarious💜💜💜
My daughter loves Wonky Donkey and Winky Donkey!
I think I have heard about this book, but I have not read it.
I love this idea!! I hope they stay stuck to your wall as i think you are supposed to press the Commad strips for 90 seconds. Great for a kid's room!
Beautiful diy in honor of your mom ❤ I love how you used these ty for sharing
Such a wonderful way to honor your Mom. ❤ I love this idea and have been wanting to do something like this for my Grandchildren. Thank you for sharing this! 😊
Thank you so much!
Anything Beatrix Potter, The Velveteen Rabbit, anything with Eloise Wilkin illustrations and Pete the Cat!
My kids LOVE Pete the cat right now!
What an amazing “outside the box“ idea!! So glad it turned out better than you had hoped for - there’s nothing like that feeling! Favourite books: when my daughter was little she really enjoyed: Berenstain Bears, Little Critter, & many of Robert Munch’s. My Dad also wrote quite a few stories just for her/us which we cherish (he passed away 18 years ago). He was not a published author but his stories are so good. Not technically for really young children but as a tween I really enjoyed Harriet the Spy. Thanks for sharing your idea!
Oh my goodness, I think your daughter and I are very similar! I loved all of those books as well and have collections of all of those in my classroom!
@@ThriftedLiving That’s lovely!
I really like this idea. Little golden books
Thank you!
A fave of mine is “The King’s Flower” by Mike Thaler. It’s one of his earlier books. I love it.
If you turn them upside down they will have a lip so they don’t slip off!! This way a fabulous idea!
Thank you so much!
My kids favourite picture books (and honestly fun to read) are Duck, Rabbit and Not A Box.
Thank you!
TFS my favorite childhood book was the three little pigs
Yes!
This is so cute. Love this. I would like to try this for wood stamps in my craft room. Thank you for sharing your awesome ideas ❤️
That’s a great idea! Thank you for the kind words!
Wonderful idea! I have never seen that type of 'velcro' Command strip. My favourite children 's book is, The Giving Tree.
I love those Command Strips. I recently thrifted The Giving Tree and surprisingly I have never read it!
Where The Sidewalk Ends By Shel Silverstein
Yes! I shared a DIY where I created wall art using that book!
Those shelves look perfect there! I taught elementary school for 35 years and the highest compliments I get are from students who loved read aloud time...several have told me that when they read a book I read to them to their own children they hear my voice! My favorites were the Chronicles of Narnia set and The Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls. I think I am a bit of a read aloud snob...I have to turn off so many audible books because the reader is awful! ha ha
Read aloud time was the best! I remember being fascinated by my Gr 2 teacher's shoes as she read to us, plus her pretty fingernails, which were always perfectly polished (in the 80s!). She read The Faraway Tree book, which will always remind me of her. It's my thrift store white whale, I'll find it someday!❤📚
And I agree, a bad narrator can ruin a good book! And a good one could make the phone book worth listening to! I'm partial to narrators from the UK myself. 😅
@@megan2176 Was the tree book The Faraway Tree stories by Enid Blyton? I remember those, too! If that's the one...little gnomes or fairies or elves? Enid Blyton's adventure books were fabulous..The Castle of Adventure, etc. When I found them as a grown-up I was so excited..bought the whole original set!
@lynnlange9874 yesss!! So fun and magical!! I found the Faraway Tree stories in novel form, but I still look for the specific picture book whenever I'm at the thrift store. I've seen it on ebay, but that's cheating. It's more exciting to find it in the wild!! I 😅📚♥️
Thank you for sharing! I love read aloud time!
Adorable I love the idea I would use it in my craft room
Thank you! How do you think you would use it in the craft room?
The books I loved as a child was
-The mitten
-Go dog go
-magic tree house books
- baby sitter club "the old ones"
-Mrs pigglewiggle books
-amelia bedelia books
-little house on the prairie
-alice and wonderland
-the chronicles of Narnia
-harry potter
-the napping house
So many great titles!
Love it awesome ideas iv going to give it ago,
That would be great to display coffee table books or certain cook books. You could even change it out as wanted.
My favorite children’s book was a red hard cover book that had several short stories in it. Not sure of the title but the first story was little red riding hood. I believe my daughter still has it.
Thank you for the suggestion!
What a wonderful idea👍♥️. I'm in my 60's so I love all the ladybird books (not sure if they're still available, also Enid Blyton. Have a good weekend. Stay safe 🤗🇬🇧
Thank you!

Another awesome idea!! I hope my Dollar Trees have the iPad holders! Not sure I’ve ever noticed them 🫤 Would love to make this for my granddaughter!!
You could use the 8x10 acrylic picture frames as well Dollar Tree always has those! Maybe put some encouraging words in the photo holder part. Just an idea! "But First...Coffee & A Story!" LOL
That's a great idea!
I did not know how to use the command strips. Love what you did.
Thank you!

Great idea making a floating bookshelf 👍 do you think it would work with the clear acrylic/plastic free standing picture frames ?

My grandkids have a bunch of Coloring books...How do those handle if you place the books the way you do on a Regular shelf?? Coloring books don't weigh as much, thats why I was asking😀

Great idea. Does the command hooks rip the paint off the wall?
Thanks! I have used them often and paint has never peeled off the wall when I removed them.
My mom passed away recently as well. Wasn't really unexpected, but was still surreal and sad
I am so sorry. It is so difficult. My thoughts are with you.
Great idea!
