  • In this video I show how to install a Gentex Hyundai HomeLink Auto Dimming Compass Rear View Mirror in a 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line. This process should be very similar in all makes and models of vehicles. If shopping on eBay, make sure to click on my affiliate link below before purchasing to help support the channel!

    Thanks for the video. I put the same mirror in my 2013 Veloster this morning and I couldn't get it to work. I had the wire that goes to constant 12 hooked up to ground. That doesn't work. LOL My vehicle had the blue link but not the home link so my factory plug was only short one wire. I depinned the adapter harness and added the single pin back into the factory plug for cleaner install. Thanks again!

    Luckily my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT has the Bluelink built in with the rear view mirror without the auto-dimming feature. The connectors is exactly the same except it does not have the 12V constant. I brought the same Hyundai Sonata mirror and everything works except the Homelink. Of course the 12V constant is tied to the Homelink but I absolute hate Homelink since it never works for me. Brought a used mirror for less than $30 on eBay! I can always run a 12V wire from the mirror to a constant wire on the dome light.

    Thanks for this.
    Might do something similar to my 2013 Veloster since I lost outside temp gauge when I replaced the stock touchscreen radio unit with an aftermarket android unit (replaced it since I want navigation but I lost the outside temp since it shows it on the stock radio instead of it being in the instrument cluster like any other cars). My plan is either this route or get a outside temp gauge (like glowshift direct but not sure if it shows Celsius) and a pillar pod to mount it.

    I've done about 5 of these (a couple on Kia's - my Hyundai's have all had homelink on them from factory) - I didn't wire in constant power on any of the ones I planned to have outside my garage regularly - the reason being is that if the car was left unlocked or someone smashed a window bingo and they are in your garage and possibly in your home. I was concerned years ago that the homelink would loose power and I'd have to re-program it (along with the compass) but even after weeks of non-use they keep their programming (including the compass) - I get why people might want their homelink to be active all the time but security is a bit more important to me than convenience - installing homelink after all avoid having to leave a garage door opener on the visor or in your console.

    I own a 2023 Prius LXE. It does not have the digital rear view mirror that comes with the limited pkg. visibility out the back is dangerously unsafe.. do you know if a digital rear view mirror with camera would work on the Prius? Thx for great video!

    You wouldn't want to connect the constant power and the switch power to the same point. That would end of cross-contaminating circuits and therefore your fuse values would not work on those circuits. Pick one or the other. I would suggest using the switched power, as it wouldn't drain the battery or allow kids to operate the door.

    I am going to attempt to install an auto dimming homelink mirror with compass (that is for a Kia) on my 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz. I would like to just do all of the wiring down to the fuse box. Did you remove the A pillar or just tuck the wire in there without removing it? And where do you suggest tapping into on the fuse box to get constant and switched power? Any other issues I might encounter?

    I have elantra 2015 GL sedan, the thing is i can see there is a wire coming out from the lights side to the starter device which is mounted on the windsheild, so am not sure if i can still connect the mirror, in addition i have the same mirror that you have but without the wiring, can you please give me an idea what i need to buy or to do before i start the job

    Is the connector on the mirror a 10 pin connector. I'm wondering if this part will plug right into the connector on my Veloster N.

    Thank you for posting, definitely would like to add this, is there a more direct plug and play option? How do i tap into the fuse box on the side? These are great cars!

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately there is not much more of a plug and play option. They will all require tapping into wires. You would want to use a fuse tap to get power from the fuse panel or use the same T-Taps that come with the kits to tap into wiring around the fuse panel.

      The issue is there's not a "ignition switched / accessory" hot up in the overhead. On some cars there is (say for a sun roof) - IMO you don't need a constant power source but that's all that's available in that area in the car. I agree - I never really like adding fuse taps / add-a-fuse but the Hyundai/Kia kits for some models come with an A-pillar airbag retention clip and everything else to do the job "professionally" as the kit is geared towards dealer techs...

    Thanks for the video. OEM instructions for installing the auto dimming mirror say to run a separate line from the fuse box through the A pillar into the headliner. Is that not necessary? Obviously it's easier to take power from the dome light, but how many watts does the mirror need and can the dome light line provide it without overloading?

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому +2

      You can do either. The mirror does not consume much. If you switch to LED dome lights, I assume you would be consuming even less power.

    • @Scotty_in_Ohio
      @Scotty_in_Ohio Рік тому

      in some models there might be just enough current draw to trigger a message saying there's an accessory left on - if there's a power source nearby that is "switched / accessory" that can work too - most if not all homelink / auto dim mirrors won't loose their programing if disconnected from power even for several weeks. It just won't function until the car is either running or in accessory position (which for me at least is good from a security standpoint).

    I have a question so you only connected three wires and so I figured I could get all my stuff to work I have a 2013 sonata and it comes with blue link and that's stuff but it doesn't have the horn link or auto dimming and for those wires to work do I just connect the wires as is and hope for the best or something cause I saw that you only connected 3 wires to get the auto dimming and home link to work but I'm also Trina have my blue link connect back into the original connectors? Also could you perhaps send me the schematics for that rear view mirror possibly??

    Hello again. Can you make a video explaining how you add secondary fuse box?

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому

      Very simple. Fuse tap an existing fuse (such as power outlets or something not heavily used or critical to operation). That is your power into the secondary fuse block. Then ground the secondary fuse block. Then add your circuits off of this added fuse block with grounds.

    On a vehicle with the tech package, is swapping the mirror with auto dimming and homelink for a frameless version plug n play?

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. I don't know but I do know since the frameless ones don't have BlueLink, the plug may be different. It could also just have less wires run to it.

  • @Joe-cm9dn
    @Joe-cm9dn 2 роки тому

    Do you know if any other features from the tech package can be added. It really bothered me that some of the safety features that are pretty much standard on most cars now were tied to the tech package considering it came with so many premium features already. If memory serves the 2018 had these extras, ours for 2019 and 2020 didn't and then they returned in 2021 as standard equipment. The car was hard enough to find, let alone one with the tech package. I wondered if you could add the blind spot monitoring or other features or if the car had relays or wiring run that would make easy swap or add.on.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому

      Maybe but I wouldn't know how necessarily. The only feature the 2019/20 N Line didn't get with the tech package (but really it would have been standard on N Line) was the Blind Spot/Rear Cross Traffic. It was standard on the GT Sport but not available at all on the N Line for whatever reason.

    How/Did you connect the Blu Link also or just the mirror? I want to add this to a 2020 Sonata Fe and the mirror has the Blu Link but no Auto Dimming, Flat Mirror, Compass, Garage Door Opener. Also how can I get the custom wiring harness for my 2020 Sonata Fe?

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому

      I did not connect any BlueLink because this car doesn't have it. If you buy the correct accessory mirror part number for your car, it might include all the necessary wiring/mirror to keep the BlueLink working. If it tells you to run power down to the fuse box for Homelink, you can always wire it similarly to what I did here instead.

    How you program the mirror. I can't do it in my mirror

    • @JustinKelly
      @JustinKelly  2 роки тому +1

      Make sure the Homelink buttons are cleared (hold 2 outer buttons until light flashes). Then hold the opener remote up to the mirror and simultaneously hold the open button and Homelink button until it flashes quickly. If that does completely activate then you need to press the learn button on the garage door motor, then press the button you programmed a couple times for about 3 seconds each time. It should work after a couple presses.
