My only taste of this "unique" scotch left a metallic aftertaste that was hard to get rid of. Reflecting back I figure it must have been from the valyrian steel used to kill the White Walkers.

Hello Daniel and Rex, and all of the Whisk(e)y connoisseurs out there. I used to drink whisky exclusively for a long time, mainly single barrels because... Reasons. I then later switched to Rum.
However, these two Titans of Tasty Tantalizing Spirits got me back into the beverages we all love. I recently was at a company party where I drank a lot. And the after party was at a local bar. The company had a tab, all you could drink. I asked for the best scotch they had. Keep in mind that I was pretty gone at this point. They told me the name, which I don't remember, and that it was a 15 year old scotch. I had it on the rocks. It was really mellow, and smooth. No after taste. I vaguely remember floral notes. I remember it was $20 an ounce, but keep in mind this is Washington, where alcohol is expensive. I was hoping someone might be able to help point me in the right direction of what it could have been. I would love to pick up a bottle.

I appreciate your fair shake of the Johnnie Walker White Walker, since great number of reviewers simply do not like it, and also giving your pro's and con's about the whisky. The only thing that worries me is that metallic taste, but as you say if removed it makes for a nice Speyside expression ... hmm maybe a squeeze of lemon with peel. Cheers to great drams!

Daniel, I believe a clear spirit from the grapes (leftovers from wine making) is considered grappa. The vineyard near me distills grappa and sells it as a "new make" and aged.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  5 років тому +3

The difference has to do with the strength and goal of final product. Vodka is much higher and specifically distilled to be odorless, tasteless, etc. Grappa is typically lower (but sometimes not) but is distilled to maintain flavor and aroma of the original grapes in some manor.

@@brycelaycock6605 Brandy have to be from wine (maybe a cheated one eheh) and aged.
At least, it have to be here ( Italy and Eu). But I'm pretty sure Usa and Canada 's rules are pretty similars too.
It become common use to addres other fruit distill. as brandy, but if it's anything that not from strictly grapes, it have to be labelled (e.g.: peach brandy)

It seems to me that vodka could be... anything. Every distill. from any kind of stuff. At least, I see a fair amount of differents vodka.
I didn't find amy kind of legislation about vodka, but yes, the main goal is to produce a neutral booze ( for this reason a triple distill. Is considered of higher quality than a single one. Even tho some ppl prefer vodka that retain some property of the material used. And some vodkas advertise it too, in the label... " strong blablabla flavor")

I had a small tasting with some friends last night and found I like Laphroaig. We had the small Peated Malts of distinction pack. I like the Connemara as well but found the Ardmore and Bowmore had a note on the palette that reminded me of Band-aides with the disinfectant built in. Is that the "Peat note" that you guys are referring to vs the smoke flavor or would it fall under Iodine? Just trying to identify notes better so I can get a better idea of what Scotch to buy. I also found that note in the Glenmorangie Lasanta and especially in the Quinta Rubin but like the original.

It’s been a few years since having Black label since I’ve been on a single malt kick lately, but I did enjoy both it and the Blue quite a bit. Nice review...information on the wine based spirits was more informative. Question - have you received more sourced whiskey and if so, what are your plans for it?

Is there anything in the JW range which tastes similar to the White Walker?

So glad you reviewed this, I'm a GOT fan but also a Whisky/Whiskey fan and as there are a world of drinks to try I don't want to waste my money on something that will be disappointing.

Well if you can't afford $40, I recommend you don't try this. Maybe Jim beam with coke will be in your price range.

I, unfortunately, did not get to try this chilled, I was presented with the opportunity to try it at a party where people preferred Bud Light to anything else, it tasted like vegetal and caught me by surprise.

Great video guys! Thank you for starting my day off right. Also thank you for preventing me from picking up that bottle of Johnny Walker. I’m not opposed to it, there are just so many other options at that price. The cute label isn’t worth it. I am very curious about this Vodka of which you speak.

I didn't like it cold, it tasted metallic to me. I liked it better when room temperature.

You guys should try Tullibardine, it think it’s a very good scotch, maybe more for beginners. (I’m only 18, that’s why I say it’s more for beginners)

I don't think it is called a vodka, it would be brandy of some kind I feel pretty sure, pomace brandy to be more precise. They can be aged or not. It would be cool to see you guys make a micro dive into stuff like brandy for a week or so.
