Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where today we are talking azealic acid and how new studies shed some light on to how to use it for the best results.. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.. Love you all x
Azelaic acid is a game changer for my post acne erythema (red marks). My skin likes it a lot more than other skin brighteners. I use it a few times a week alongside my differin gel!
Omg SAME!! I’m no newbie to skincare, but the hype for AA was just not there (I’m congestion prone but not really acne prone so using traditional “acne products” just dried me out and broke me out worse), but DAAAYYUUUMM do I wish I had tried AA sooner!! 10% Azelaic acid + adapalene 😚👌🏽
I have been using The Ordinary Azaleic Acid suspension for the last couple months. I saw a video you did talking about the reformulation and I was about out of my Inkey List version, so I switched. I love it! The texture is nice, it absorbs right in, and almost leaves a primer-like finish. My redness is in my cheeks and between my eyebrows so that’s where I put it. It’s been working very well and at a stellar price.
Hello everyone from Texas. I started watching maybe 4-5 months ago and love how you present your reviews without accepting Sponsors. This 59 yo’s skin is loving your suggestions .
It's always good to have new studies backing up the effectiveness of our go to skincare favourites. I've been using the Q+A one lately. It's cheap and effective..
I’m quite bad at noticing the benefits of individual actives but I never breakout when AA is in my routine…and it’s thanks to you for raving about it so much!
Hi Rob I have just started using The Inky List Azelaic acidfor my mild Rosacea, very sensitive reactive skin. Also at my age I still get spots with also having combination skin. Having such a complex skin/complexion it is so difficult to find the correct cleanser, treatment and healing skincare 😢 I never go a day without redness or at least a spot or 2 😢 Back to the Azelaic acid, I have only used it 3 evenings so far and OMG Rob, I have no bad reaction at all, nothing no itching or anything I am really shocked. Sorry for the long message, just get so excited when you are on my screen 👍 I have been following you and trusting every word you say, for at least a couple of years. Rob you just get better each year and stay true to your values. Love you Rob 👍🧡
hi rob i’ve been watching your channel for a while now the last time i commented on a video was when you were still teasing us about the initial release of ur skincare line. proud to see how far u hv come xx
Skinstore currently has the Q+A azelaic acid serum on sale for $6 right now for anyone interested! I’m in the US and have ordered from them before and shipping was really fast, I think it took 4 days from placing my order to having received my order. Well packaged too!
I've got a RX for azelaic acid and retin-a and they are great together. Ive dialed back my skincare routine from rediculous to just these two and will continue to use them indefinitely.
Thanks for your helpful info----I got a bad reaction when I experimented with using Vitamin C cleanser in the mornings along with a nighttime regime of Azelaic Cream 15%, but with Tret 0.5. I had been using the regime without the Vit C for about 6 months with only a slight skin reaction in the first two months, then all was well until I "experimented" with another "active" in the morning (the Vit C). I got an infection on my chin, there was painful swelling and flaking (never happens to me) and I had to stop all for about 3 weeks. I then used only Azelaic Acid and the flaking went away within one day. The Azelaic Acid got rid of the swelling and destroyed skin almost immediately--but after I took antibiotics for about one week and used only Vit E at night and Vaseline/Bag Balm. It really did wonders for this problem Will not use Vitamin C again while using Tret. Don't know how Vit C cleanser and Azelaic would work together but not goin to risk it again! I listened to your vid about how wonderful Azelaic Acid is about the time I was beginning this routine and your vid encouraged me to get this product. If I had not used it after this swelling problem and infection, I think the problem would still be huge.
Technically yes, I subscribed after you released your last video on azelaic acid, but I went on a channel binge after I subscribed, so I’ve seen your past video more than once! 😃 You introduced me to azelaic acid and I use it twice daily now-I’m just playing around with different formulas to find the right one for me. Love from the U.S.! 😘
I love Finacea 15% for my rosacea 😊 I use it every single night alongside Tretinoin, and during the day with Vit C when my rosacea is flaring. I highly recommend AA to anyone, especially those with rosacea!
I've been using the Geek & Gorgeous aPAD based on your recommendation. Patiently waiting for your MAS Got You Covered Super Serum. ❤ My skin misses it 😊
I know my skin is missing it too lol but it wont be long until its back and I cant wait to share the new packaging with you all.. thanks for all your support and sending you lots of love xx
❤ I actually like the ordinary Adelaic acid. I have to use a mineral SPF at the moment and it was making me look like a slick ball (and I can’t change) - I inserted the ordinary Azelaic acid into my morning skincare routine and it has a mattifying effect on the sunscreen. Perfect!
💙 I heard you and Dr. Dray talk about the effects of Azelaic acid a few years ago, and it sounded like it was made for me. I've been using it since! I love your channel! Thank you.
I dived in with Lumizela twice daily. Have been tossing up whether to repurchase. FaceTheory price increases are putting me off. Naturium is local to me but have ingredients that are in other products I am using (Numbuzin Concentrated Serum) and don’t want to double up. Decisions, decisions. Great video as always. 🙏
❤❤❤ I consider myself one of your OG'S!!!😁 Congrats with the 525k you deserve double of each one of them! Another super informative and raving worth video! Love! You made me fall in love with Azelaic Acid, and I love even more the serums that combine it with TA, all thanks to you!!! Love you to the moon and back!❤️❤️❤️
I like to be gentle with my skincare, I love MAS serum in the am and Q+A in the evening. I also like the Geek and Georgeous one. I feel very lucky as I still have 2 MAS serums in my stash😂❤❤ Good luck with your move hun xxxx
OMG Jan how come you have a stash and I have run out lol... I knew I should have hoarded more for me lol... Its so so close to the rebranding now though I honestly cant wait to have it back in my routine and to be able to share it with everyone.. Hope your having an epic start to the week and sending you lots of love x
Azelaic acid has powerful anti inflammation ,calming properties.Gives skin calm even tone.Great pre tretinoin and in combination with tretinoin.Works much faster than cica/centella
An idea for your next skincare video ... the change of seasons and how it impacts your regime. Especially transitioning from Winter to Spring and Summer into Autumn
Hi Rob! I discovered your channel and subcribed a few months ago, and I really appreciate your contents always accurate, useful and honest. And yes, I'm also looking forward your Super serum 😊Greetings from Italy
Q+A azelaic acid is cheap good texture, honestly great price for such powerful multi property ingredient Honestly,no amount of Korean centella ,hydration toners have made such calming fast action as Peach slices or Q+A azelaic acid.Helped me immensely to adjust my skin to tretinoin
❤ I've been here for so long 😂 Always use your super serum in the morning and looking forward to the new packaging 😊 while I listened to this video I thought to myself a kind of "anti aging add on serum" would be really cool. Something you could pair up with retinol, vitamin c and peptides which I think most of us use. It would be full of enhancing and supplementing ingredients (e.g. centella, azelaic acid, q10 etc.) preferebly even in a base of barrier supporting ingredients. Probably not an easy feat to create something like that but I would buy it in an instant 😍
Great video. I'm going to try the Geek & Gorgeous C Serum, so thought I'd also get the Apad. Another influencer said she received so many compliments when using the Apad. I tried the 20% Cream and I didn't really see any results. Maybe I'll like the Apad.
I use Beauty Pies 'Happy Face' 10% azelaic aid moisturiser it also contains niacinamide and other healing ingredients. Its a gorgeous cream made in Japan and has made a noticeable difference in sensitivity and redness.
Hey Rob ! This was such a bang on time video ! I was looking for azelaic acid serums and here you are 😘 Quicl question - what are your thoughts on azeloglicina (potassium azeloyl diglicinate), An azelaic acid derivative, which is used in a lot of niche beauty labs products (the acnemy range)? What strength of this ingredient do you think should be recommended for effectiveness? Thanks a million and have a lovely Sunday ! ❤️
I suddenly got large acne breakouts which didn't want to clear up. I did blood tests without getting any explanation about the sudden breakout. My face got covered and was totally red with cysts and swelling. This all started around Christmas 2023. I just discovered a week ago that I have rosacea. The doctor has prescribed me now azelaic acid 20 and rozex metronidazole 0,75. I am still in the beginning phase of using this product It is painful and I try to keep it on my face for at least one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening before washing it off and moisturising. I have a Caucasian white skin, I am a female of 47 years old and my skin is a bit dry and very sensitive.
I used Fineace, the azelic acid prescription and I noticed it peals off when I used it with copper peptides serum from Niod and The ordinary. Beside that, it's the best ingredient, always in mu routine.
The theramid one is however a little bit grainy and not as perfectly smooth as the facetheory or the naturium I find… But more similar to earlier versions of azelaic acid products. And does pill in me on occasion. But ok I guess for oily skin people as it is a more watery thin texture. Another affordable version is the dermatica one who offers both 15% and 20% in their signature ceramide solution. Equally calming like the facetheory but a bit less oily feeling.
Have you tried the q and a sunscreens yet? I've got the peptide one and it's pretty good. A bit sticky when dried but wears well under makeup. Nice to have an spf that's made here and I don't have to get shipped over.
So interesting, thank you Rob! ❤️ Really love aPad (which you put me onto ages ago!) but might switch it to the AM with Medik8 C tetra, what do you think? Xx
❤ I have used your got you covered serum ever since it came out and I also have started using the aPad but I do have slight redness and think maybe I should try a non derivative
Thank you so much for your continued support Fiona and I hope all is amazing with you... I think if you try maybe using the apad every other day that could lessen any issues I hope and let the skin get used to it.. sending love x
@@MadAboutSkin I think I confused you. I don’t get redness from the aPad. I am trying to get rid of slight redness and think the derivative is not enough. Hope that makes sense
Hello 👋🏽 my friend Rob, have you tried Dear My Dew Korean skincare? They have an excellent Azelaic Acid serum that is lovely. I’m curious about your opinion. Thank you for the informative video 👏🏽👏🏽. Cheers 😉🌷
Hello hun, lovely to hear from you and I hope all is amazing with you.. I havent tried it out but I am off to check it out right now so thank you so much for the recommendation.. love xx
Yes I am good thanks hun for all your tips hun was watching forest gump last night lol. I forgot what a great film that was I need to get all your skincare items in future 😂
❤😊 I'm currently using the Theramid Azid treatment. Highly recommend you to try that one. It's amazing. Also 15% Maybe you can also do a side by side with Facetheory? That would be very interesting😘
Should we be doing vitamin c in the morning and azelaic acid at night? Or put both at the same time? If we put both at same time, which do we put first?
You can use both in the same routine! You can follow the general layering guidelines of thinnest texture to thickest-Since vitamin C is usually a more liquid texture you’d apply that first and azelaic acid usually comes in a creamy suspension type texture, you you’d apply that just before your moisturizer (or mixed in with a bit of moisturizer to help it not pill/flake) 😊
My second question for you was just if i use your copper peptide serum can i use it before my tretonoin cream and would i use it before my azelaic acid 🤔 😮
I think only one I hav used id the ordinary and not in awhile, I did however do a dupe search of faded which has multi hyperpigmentation fade and was goin to try bolden which has sum similararities, but didn’t make it into my suitcase for my world cruise so will try after in sep♥♥♥
Hi Rob! Thanks for this video. What do you think of the Paula's Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster? I've seen good things, but I am hesitant to order, as returns to PC from Canada are expensive. Has anyone tried this one?
I love it but I think its on the more expensive side for a 10% so I usually go with a cheaper option but its a great product if you dont mind paying.. ;love x
@@MadAboutSkin Thanks for your reply, very helpful! Just one more follow up question: when you use this product, do you use it in a routine with a retinoid? I also hesitate to try this one because the best place I can think to slot it into my routine is the evening, after a retinol serum. But my understanding is that you shouldn't use retinoids with salicylic acid (which the PC Booster has a bit of).
I would love to have the benefits from azaliac acid but my routine is already so long. I'm chronically ill and don't have a lot of enery and my current routine is already long. It would be amazing if you could come up with routine shorteners without giving up the quality of the routine. So multi functional serums with combined actives. I don't mind using a seperate vitamin C and retinal but I would like the supporting products to be in 1 or maximal 2 other serums to streamline and shorten my routine.
❤ I use the Ordinary’s AA, I have a bit of a challenge with Azelaic acid is piling w/my skin care & make up. I wait 1 minute in between each layer, any suggestions
Hi thank you for your videos . I’m still a bit confused, I’m 63 and have wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, I changed from caudalie to ordinary but still a bit unsure about the procedure of using all the products in the right order because I have to fight about everything . Isn’t it too much every day ? Am: cleanser, multi peptide and copper or vitamin c, Hyaluron, eye cream , moisture and sunscreen . Pm +retinal, smoothing barrier, ..Where fits azelaic acid ? ( sorry English is not my mother language)thank you everybody for your help, greetings from Austria
Something is wrong with the ordinary azealic acid formula. I’m tolerant of the prescription strength 20% azealic acid. But every time I use the TO one, it makes me face itchy, even after a consistent use of a full month.
I used it in conjunction with my adapalene (Differin) gel and the results were fantastic! Paula’s Choice azelaic acid booster is actually the product that made me fall in love with AA 😅 I had an older tube that I had tried using on and off, not really knowing much about AA, so when I decided I wanted to finish it up to get rid of it, I was using it twice a day every day mixed into my moisturizer (and I had started using adapalene about two weeks before) and oh MY WORD my skin was SO FREAKING SMOOTH AND SOFT!! Like even when I washed my face in the shower it still felt like I had moisturizer on my skin was so stinkin soft (still is soft but I’m using Peach Slices now and have experienced a few breakthrough blemishes and the product itself pills a bit especially with sunscreen). I definitely noticed a significant difference when I ran out of the Paula’s Choice and deeply missed the results! So I say all that to say, Paula’s Choice was gentle enough to use twice a day for my combo/oily, sometimes dehydrated, often sensitive skin. But as with any AA, don’t start at twice a day every day 😅

Thank you so much for the recommendation I will check it out xx
I havent tried it out but I am off to check it out right now so thank you so much for the recommendation.. love xx
@@MadAboutSkin Thank you 😊 for the lovely reply. Have a good day 😊
What about DrSam’s Azelaic Acids, have you tried them and what are your thoughts? Thanks
Love them and she was the derm who got me into azealic acid so I would certainly recommend them.. love x
I use glycolic acid salicylic acid at night. Never try azelaic acid 😊 thanks for tips how are u 🤗
Yay thanks so much for sharing and hope all is wonderful with you hun.. love x
Yes I am good thanks hun for all your tips hun was watching forest gump last night lol.
I forgot what a great film that was I need to get all your skincare items in future 😂
❤😊
I'm currently using the Theramid Azid treatment. Highly recommend you to try that one. It's amazing. Also 15% Maybe you can also do a side by side with Facetheory? That would be very interesting😘
I need to check that one out for sure.. thank you so much for the heads up.. love x
Where can I find this study you mentioned? Thanks!
Do you have a breakdown/ chart of what products to pair with and to avoid. Some guideline we can look at so not get all this messed up?
Should we be doing vitamin c in the morning and azelaic acid at night? Or put both at the same time? If we put both at same time, which do we put first?
You can use both in the same routine! You can follow the general layering guidelines of thinnest texture to thickest-Since vitamin C is usually a more liquid texture you’d apply that first and azelaic acid usually comes in a creamy suspension type texture, you you’d apply that just before your moisturizer (or mixed in with a bit of moisturizer to help it not pill/flake) 😊
❤ OG right here
Thank you so much for being a longtime subscriber - your support means a lot.. Love xx
My favorite ingredient after tretinol ❤
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts x
Whaaat! I was under the impression that azelic acid can't be paired with peptides!!!
Is it?
Can I apply it after argeline +matryxl?
It totally can in fact it works well with peptides.. love x
Wow.. I'm going to do it right away..thanks for the reply
My second question for you was just if i use your copper peptide serum can i use it before my tretonoin cream and would i use it before my azelaic acid 🤔 😮
Hi hun, great question and I would use the copper peptide followed by azealic then your retinoid.. love x
Thank uxx
Do you have any vitamin c serum recommendations to use with a prescription gel azelaic acid? Which one do you use first? Thank you!
OG been here for 3 yrs.........love it
Thank you so much for being a longtime subscriber - your support means a lot.. Love xx
I think you are the first thing that comes to mind when I think about azelaic acid :D at this point you to are basically a married couple :D
haha I would marry my azealic acid if I could lol.. thank you so much for watching and sending you lots of love x
What about the Ordinary one? Is it any good?
I think its great and so affordable.. love x
So I can use my geek and gorgeous apad with the ordinary cooper peptides? ❤
you totally can hun :) I hope all is wondeful with you and sending you lots of love xx
@@MadAboutSkin oh thanks Rob! ❤️
I was thinking about using the azealic acid 12% + tranexamic acid 3% from Nooance. Do you know if it’s any good ?

Thank you so so much hun, welcome to the channel :) love x
Heather Charron, aprilish?2024. New hampshire, United States. (But I've definitely binged a ton of your videos already) 😊
Thank you so much hun and sending you so so much love to NH xx
❤ I use the Ordinary’s AA, I have a bit of a challenge with Azelaic acid is piling w/my skin care & make up.
I wait 1 minute in between each layer, any suggestions
The ordinary one does tend to pill as it is silicone based so you shouldnt have the same issue with another one :) love x
Hi there would you use it before or after vitc x
I would use if before.. love x
Does the face theory one contain oil? Online it says fruit oil? Just wondering if this is bad with acne
I have no issue with it and I am very acne prone so I hope that helps xx
What’s the difference between azalaic acid and the derivative?
Can you use it in the same routine with copper peptides ?
yes you can hun they pair well together :) love x
Maybe I'm that suscriber...but how can I remember that after 1 year?haha
Haha thank you for being a subscriber all the same and I really appreciate your support x
Happy Sunday all
Happy Sunday Hun c
Hey do offer 1-2-1 assistance. Really struggling with trying to find the right products and no idea where to start now

Thank you so so much hun, welcome to the channel xx
Something is wrong with the ordinary azealic acid formula. I’m tolerant of the prescription strength 20% azealic acid. But every time I use the TO one, it makes me face itchy, even after a consistent use of a full month.
Less than a year... currently using an azelaic acid with aloe, niacinamide, and vitamin c
thank you so so much hun and sending you lots of love x
Can I use azeliac acid with pimple patches?
I live in Australia and for some reason Azelaic acid is banned in the country 😢
Do you know why…?
Paula's Choice azelaic acid has salicylic acid, can I still use it with my retinal at night?
I wouldn't as I think the salicylic might cause sensitivity.. not sure on the percentage though as a low percentage salicylic would be ok
I believe it’s only 0.5% so very low
I used it in conjunction with my adapalene (Differin) gel and the results were fantastic! Paula’s Choice azelaic acid booster is actually the product that made me fall in love with AA 😅
I had an older tube that I had tried using on and off, not really knowing much about AA, so when I decided I wanted to finish it up to get rid of it, I was using it twice a day every day mixed into my moisturizer (and I had started using adapalene about two weeks before) and oh MY WORD my skin was SO FREAKING SMOOTH AND SOFT!!
But as with any AA, don’t start at twice a day every day 😅
How would you use the Q+A Azelaic Acid in your evening routine? Before peptides and MAS Serum, between them, or after?
Hi hun, great question and I would use it first followed by the MAS serum then your retinoid.. hope this helps.. ;love x
