- The date was November 10, 1984 at the Satellite Bowl in Dearborn Heights, Michigan (Aleta Sill's home bowling lanes). The final championship match featured #3 seed Mark Roth vs. #1 seed Pete Weber. Each bowler had each won two titles in 1984. This match became a playoff for player of the year honors, as there were three more events after this. The winner of the match would receive $18,000, with the runner up earning $9,500. This event was shown on NBC as part of their fall tour coverage. Jay Randolph and Earl Anthony were the announcers.
On a side note, Satellite Lanes was a 84 lane establishment. I used to work there in the snack shop for about 2 months. It has since closed down, and the site is now home to a Home Depot.
I hope you enjoy the match.

Her it is thanks guys❤ for the post, John Barnett revisited October 2023❤
‘A young man who just got out of a drug rehabilitation center…’ 😂 Love the honesty back in the day.
Note how Earl didn't say anything about it, quickly steered the commentary back to bowling. Makes me think Jay said more than he was supposed to 😉
1:41 after the pba event telecast is done the breeders cup from Hollywood park racing's $10,000,000 day
Sad to hear that such a large bowling center went down, not that long after it hosted professional events like this. In Topeka, we lost another center just a few months ago. The city now has two; twenty years ago, it had six. Ran around in a bowling center as a child back in the 70's while my parents bowled in league. Good times . . .
@sjfinchum1 Satellite Bowl closed in the early 90s. It was located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. It is now a Home Depot.
@sjfinchum1 The Satellite Lanes WAS on Michigan Ave. near South Gulley Rd. at the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights/Inkster border. The Bowling Alley had over 128 lanes 64 in the east end and 64 in the west end. It had bars, restaurants, mini malls, arcades and a rental banquet halls. It used to be the BIGGEST bowling lanes in the Tri-County area.
Satellite Lanes was an 84 lane establishment. There were two sections of 42 lanes each with the pits basically back to back. It was located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
Yes, Satellite was a split house.
the showboat was a hoot. I got to bowl the Junior Team USA qualifier the last year they had it there. The hotel was a dump, but so much history in the house.
Don't forget Cherry Hill Lanes, which is about 2 miles from where Satellite used to be (32 lanes on one side, 20 on the other).
jsequa874 cherry hill is still open i bowl there thursdays
Walter Ray Williams is the alternate. I spot him.
Has Pete Weber ever bowled Earl Anthony on T.V.???
Sunnybrook in Sterling Heights, and Taylor Lanes, in Taylor are like that, too!
taylor is now closed and torn down , made it into a christian church but i know my comment is 5 yrs later
LOL
Who would be the closest pba pro to Mark Roth today. I can't imagine what his shot would look like with modern technology.
I do actually remember seeing a UA-cam video of Roth throwing a shot when he was in his 50's, probably a while before he suffered his stroke. I can't seem to find it anymore though.
Fizz Fuzzbuster.
there are only 2 bowling alleys that i know of that have lanes on each sides. Clover Lanes and Garden lanes. but then again i dont get out much.
Satellite was, Garden , Taylor, Clover and Cherry Hill, only one still open is Cherry Hill today,, Ted sold it a few summers ago, Garden still stands but is just an abondoned bldg,, Clover and Taylor have since been demolished , Satellite was torn down, back in like 93 or so, an first was an HQ warehouse that went bankrupt,, then became HomeDepot and still is to this day .. Mark Voight who owned the equipment but not the property , put the scoring Equipment in his house SUPER BOWL in canton,, I remember bowling there in the mid 90s and changing from the write in scorers to Overhead automatic after summer of 95
I grew up in Inkster which borders these cities ,so i bowled at all these houses on many occaisions
@mrbowling300 I did not really count them (back in 1989), only went by what the attendant said but it was HUGE.
@xunclexx it actually had 42 on each side for a total of 84 lanes. The largest was and still is Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park with 94 lanes...which was the site of last years world series of bowling.
Are you from the Detroit area? did you know Mark Mohacsi?
the women used to host a pro tourney there in the late 80s too ,,
I bowled youth lges there and the Difference from the north to south side was uncanny,, north side was so wide open,, south end felt like you were in a sardine can :P
Satellite was a great house overall. Great "action" bowling and classic leagues.
I think Garden Lanes closed down.
yes garden is closed, just sits there like an eyesore , but still there
I condemned it.
Big money, huh? I love bowling houses named from the dawn of NASA. Satellite, Rocket Bowl, Galaxy Lanes, etc.
@mrbowling300 Hate to hear it, but not very surprising these days.
At 7:17 Earl Anthony says of Pete Weber, "...very unhappy at this point." Yes, anytime Pete finds himself sober he's unhappy, as every one of his wives will attest to. At the age of 17 he was an alcoholic, and apparently has never concluded that it's not a positive thing.
HEY. PETE!
Heh heh heh heh...😄
HEH HEH HEHEHE HEH!😆
