You can say that again. I had an Angle urethane ball that i got brand new in 1986 as my strike ball because of its hook potential, in 2002 I only used it to throw straight at spares or on dry lanes in favor or much more aggressive particle, reactive resin, etc.
These days development can't do much more and there are way too many balls that don't offer much of an advantage over old stuff. While it's true that old school urethane isn't for the Hollywood shot, the Super Cuda/C will still climb hills with the new stuff.
A true great. Had the pleasure of bowling against Pete McCordic, Ernie schlegel, Guppy Trupp & Terry Getler in their '87 tour of South Africa. No airs & graces, just genuine good guys.
2 days that most will live in infamy for me: December 23, 1994: Bowled my high game ever in a league: 254. Had the front 7 strikes ('X') 9 /, in the 8th, blew a 10 pin in the 9th, 2 strikes & 7 in the 10th 🎳. February 16, 1997: Bowled 223, 203 & 226 for a 652 series 🎳.
I was the in audience that night I see me on camera. I was also there year or two ahead or after this but have never seen over video. Was so easy to get to these in the 80s. No fees. U get there about 5 pm and get a seat right behind lanes. I’m between 44 and 45
Pete Weber has ruined watching bowling for me. He’s such a whiner. Mark Roth, Earl Anthony, Marshall Holman played the game the right way and with respect for the game.
bowled at these lanes with pete weber but had earl anthony as a partner and then brian gobel, he bowled a 300 next to my lane 1 game before moving to my pair.
PBA was done for me when they tried to make some of these guys out like they were WWE wrestlers. Like when Webber started pounding this groin and calling himself PWJ
The moment in Match 2 is dedicated to Mark Roth. Also, Mark Roth is one of the greatest legends in the sport of Bowling.
Congrats, delete your account
Just beginning to take a closer look at vintage Bowling .. and I like watching Mark Roth.
Too Bad He is Not With Us No More
I got to meet the late Mark Roth and George Branham at Active West Town Square Lanes in Riverside Ca in 1992. Very polite gentlemen.
Branham III and his dad have always been very well known and good bowlers in the Southern California area.
I used to bowl with George years ago in San Diego.. Super nice guy and always fun to be around.
I remember watching this being an avid bowler what not to ever do!
So many amazing memories of watching Mark on TV while growing up at the Plainview Bowl, Plainview LI NY. RIP Mark.
"with today's bowling balls and their urethane finishes, the pins are no match for today's power players" - man if he only knew what was to come lol.

That again@@michaelethangross3395
The ten pin spot had a magnet under it.
I remember watching that game, broke my heart .
the 6 pins showing massive respect to Roth in the first 2
Sadly not on the last shot
One of the wildest 299’s I’ve ever seen 🤣🙌

I met my X wife at a bowling alley in 1987. Other than that I love bowling!
Hahaha
Roth with a polished Black Rhino!
Somehow it hit harder out of Tun Hakim's hand lmao. Maybe less carry down then

@Steve Robinson I'm going to pretend like I didn't read that last part.
Oh that was you sitting next to me!
Cool tech bowling
R.I.P MARK ROTH 299
R.I.P MARK ROTH 299
Amazing 😍
They each only have one ball.
@PBABowling do you have full video of tommy jones vs norm duke in 2005 dydo japan cup? I like to see that
Mark won his last title with a ball called Quantum Violet Hook. How fitting.
Nice!!! 🎳🎳🎳
@pba do you have full video of japan cup 2000 2001 2003 2004 2005 that can be posted? im really looking foward to seeing it
OUCH!
👍
CLASS ACT!!!
@Steve Robinson you struggling bruh
He had 3 shots not as good as that last one. 1st frame, duplicate 2nd frame, and when he went high and tripped the 4-9.
13:17 For a 300 game, NO! It’s a 299 for Mark Roth!

Quite true. Add Mike Aulby to that list of classy bowlers.
Weber was and is still a punk. He may have money, but he has to look in the mirror, and at his wife every day. That is a loser!
Weber is a douche. His classy father must be rolling with embarrassment
I loved how Holman destroyed foul lights!!!
Mark Roth looks like Benji from Howard stern
Before the Rodney Dangerfield balls came to ruin bowling
PBA was done for me when they tried to make some of these guys out like they were WWE wrestlers. Like when Webber started pounding this groin and calling himself PWJ
Nothing against Pete. The game changed. Forcing the bowlers to be more outlandish. Loud crowds , ugly shirts.
PDW
That's a shame! (Jerry Seinfeld).
