1979 Rolaids Open - Roth vs. Holman - Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- The date was Feb. 10, 1979 at the Dick Weber Lanes, Florissant, Mo. Mark Roth, who qualified 2nd, was coming off his 247-166 victory over Dan Roche, to meet the #1 qualifier, Marshall Holman. Roth, reining player of the year, soundly defeated Holman, 279-227 to capture the $15,000 top prize, and his 17th career title. Also, I believe Holman was using a Brunswick LT-48, and Roth a Columbia Yellow Dot. I hope you enjoy.

Golden age of of bowling
I reminisce often on these great matches some 40+ years ago. Miss the ABC coverage.
Marshall is still alive today. He is a true treasure. We lost Mark not too long ago. Marshall should still be doing broadcasting for the PBA shows. He was so good. They better do something before we lose him
Thanks so much for posting all these treasures MrBowling. Really brings back memories!
Marshall Holman was my guy when i was a kid bowling at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto california
Thanks for posting
Good old North Versailles Bowl in Pittsburgh
After this they went to synagogue and left a small tip at lunch
RIP, Mark Roth. 💔
1:26 ' a spurry of strikes'? Did Bo mean 'flurry'? 🤔
When bowling was bowling
This really was the pinnacle of bowling. The days when if you averaged 190's in leagues you were really respected. Anyone 200 and better was an outstanding bowler. I carried a Yellow Dot and a White Dot those days. Always wished for a Bleeder but never could get one. The only real downside to those days were the pros were complete dicks and had egos that were off the charts bad. Roth and Holman were right up there with the worst ................ the nicest guy I ever met on tour was Earl.
PresidentGas1 Johnny Petraglia was nice too.
I agree with you Earl was the nicest guy....
Definetly
Why didn't you punch him in the mouth and earn some "respect"? Maybe they sensed you were "weak"?
Holman had the best physical game probably ever but his "hide behind my ego" bravado and his victim martyr complex probably cost him another ten titles at least. cant remember how many times I saw him throw his hands down before the 5th frame of a game to the point nelson burton started commenting about it
Yep, always something wrong and/or he was victimized somehow. Then add to the other side of it, acted like a colossal arrogant asshole when things went well. There's a saying...when being confrontational, expect confrontation. You wanna constantly dance with the devil, don't get pissed when he steps on your toes now and again...🤷♂️😃
And I still have my LT-48. lol! Just bought "The Break," tho...
Marshall was a much better shot maker than Mark by far
What is meant by shot maker ?
higgy04...George Benson - Breezin'
Thanks for posting!
What was the song ABC used as their bowling theme?
Breezing by George Benson
As nice as it is that he's cheering on Roth...who's the guy that won't stop shouting?!
Wow, what a slap in the face if he would have shot a 300, he would have received a Ford Mustang, 1979 model was a turd.
Dummy
My Grandma hated holman. She called the midget creep holman.
