  • If you would like to lose weight or improve your weight loss results but you feel some resistance to getting started, you’re not alone. Changing your food choices, becoming more active, and putting limitations on certain foods, calories, or the hours that you eat can feel like a loss of freedom or a burden that you are just not ready to take on in your already over-busy life.
    You can be successful and avoid feeling overwhelmed by setting boundaries, creating structured flexibility, and then adding accelerators. I share this 3-step approach in this video.

    Dr Becky this is my tenth year of fasting and using the low carb/keto way. I tried using a Food Diary and the moment I step off the curb I stopped using my diary but I always recall and that helped me a lot. I went up a dress size at one stage and am now down and then some. I use flexibility in my lifestyle but recall my eating habits everyday night. I still fast up to 17-20 hours everyday. At 68 I am doing good. Thank you for being the voice in my head!🩵

    My boundary is I never eat my first meal before 2:00 pm. No matter what happened the day/night before, I can always start each day new with this restriction.

    Cannot stress that last point enough…. DO NOT try to exercise before you are adapted to your food changes. This was a key point for my success , people around you will tell otherwise but this is the way to go. Trying to add exercise before you are adapted will result in almost guaranteed failure. Even once adapted putting in strenuous exercise will result in crazy hunger so learning to make great food choices need to be ingrained. Note: going for short walks is perfectly fine at any stage but don’t overdo it.

      I agree, takeout food is pure garbage and eating out is very expensive and the quality has gone way down. It doesn’t take much time to make a delicious homemade dinner. I don’t eat breakfast or lunch.

    A friend from Carb Manager recommended Dr. Gillapsy. Now I know why. I have always eventually sabatoged my diet plan because it did indeed become overwhelming. Dr. G speaks so realistically and honestly about the potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. I am three weeks into Keto and doing well. I've lost some weight, but more importantly, I feel better and more in control. I have always been very reluctant to try IF, but after hearing Dr. G explain things I can honestly say it us something I am now willing to consider. Baby steps...thanks Dr. G, you have a new subscriber.

    Thank you for all the great info! I have a question: I started milling my own wheat berries to make bread because my son-in-law thought he was gluten intolerant but discovered it is the processed flour. I know flour products are not low carb, but using the freshly milled flour is somewhat healthier, isn’t it? Especially if I limit myself to one piece a day? I also use honey rather than sugar as a sweetener in my bread.

    • @beckygillaspy
      @beckygillaspy  2 місяці тому

      It is somewhat healthier. What you want to determine is if having a piece a day is allowing you to reach your goal.

    I am in Spain recently following the low carb, fasting 14-16 hours, exercising and very strict with treats. In 8 weeks l have lost 7kg. Was 75kg. So high percentage loss to 68kg. A Question? The stubborn parts for men are the stomach and love handles and the fat there is the last place to disappear. So, if l continue as l am, will the fat loss be now directed to the zone where fat exists, stomach and not other parts of the body. It's like now the work begins on the area of importance. I figure this would be the same question for women with regard to their behind and thighs. I would likecuf you could clarify.

    In WW2 The Minnesota Starvation Study took place. The subjects were military age & fit men drafted and continuous objectors. Their calories were cut in half. This was to study what happens when we ration food. The war caused food shortages.
    They cut the average calories of a 5’7”man weighing 147# in the study. Calories had been studied for decades so this number was used. The subjects would be sedentary and inside of a building. So no heavy labor or freezing outside.
    They cut their calories by 50% ( 1/2 ) to a total of 1750 per day. They calculated this by taking the typical caloric intake of the subjects of 3500 per day. This was what Americans ate on average for a sedentary lifestyle an not a physically active lifestyle.
    Women ate an average of 3200 calories each day in the calorie studies in the 1920’s & 1930’s. Women are typically shorter than men so eat less.

    • @livincincy4498

      They found a 50% reduction in calories caused a 40% reduction in metabolic rate. The body adapted to caloric restriction. Hormones & stimulants like coffee & cigarettes fueled the body.

    With regard to calorie increase in the diet do you think that 2,000 calories a day has become a subliminal target? If I use a bmr calculator I get something closer to 1300 calories and if you add 500 calories for activity it is 200 calories fewer than 2000.

    "Father, I thank you for giving me an amazing body. You designed and created me for a purpose. I dedicate this body for Your purpose today. Please forgive me for indulging my flesh to the detriment of my health. I understand that eating is the process by which you intend my body to be nourished. Remind me today that I must eat to nourish my body and not to satisfy the lusts of my flesh. I ask you to give me today my Daily Bread. Give me grace to accept my Daily Bread from Your hand and eat it with thanksgiving. Give me the strength to resist the temptation to eat anything You have not given to me. Please heal my body and restore my health so that I can serve You most effectively. Amen."
