They got emotional during the song because it was Tamu, drums first show back from maternity leave and they missed playing with her. Nemophila are a supergroup since all of the musicians are from other bands. They formed to only play a few shows but after those shows were done they wanted to continue playing together.
This is the slowest and sweetest song in their catalogue. If you know them, and their other music, this will reduce you to tears every time. For a totally different Nemophila (named for the flower) try Oiran live at Naon Yaon or the MV for Dissension. That’ll wake you up. 😜
Nemophila (nem-o-phi-la) (nemmofeela) the live version of OIRAN (their first original single) has a woman introducing them that pronounces it correctly
*Life* is not a sad song but it's an uplifting song. This song has an roundabout about it. This livestream show had one guitarist (Saki) read a small speech to the drummer (Tamu) who was missing from the band for six months (maternity leave for a baby daughter). Then January of 2022. Nemophila had their first live concert on a one man bill (no opening act) with all five members in front a live audience. *Life* was their Encore song for that show. Before the song, Mayu (lead vocalist) huddled up her band mates and thanked them. Cause this what she was hoping for in a band. Near the end of the song, with so much emotions Mayu started to tear up. Tamu (drummer) was the first to hug Mayu saying she did good. Tamu became the band's mother. Nemophila called that show their starting point. Since that show. Nemophila put out two original singles (A Ray of Light & Adabana). A small 6 Zepp tour with a different opening well known Japanese band (who Nemophila done a cover video of a song from those bands catalog), a show at the Whiskey in LA (playing in Sacramento in Oct), few other Japanese gigs & a cover of Journey's Separate Ways. *REACT TO THE COMPARISON VIDEO.* So yeah. You ain't seen nothing yet on this band. Their covers are amazing. Their originals are in your face. And yet. You come back for me.
have you noticed, how they were standing? this song was to welcome back drummer tamu after giving birth to her daughter. nemophila are so awesome, the spirit in the band too. fine reaction video. "adabana" shows their rockier/heavier side and how world class drummer tamu is.
《life》 is a very meaningful and powerful song. Nemophila is a band formed in 2019, but actually each of their members is from a different band, All the members are excellent musicians, And they are diverse, they not limited to one style of music, you can hear different things in every song of them. Check out《adabana》or《dissension》next time please!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻
Knowing the back story on this one really show cases just how close this band really is to each other. This was TAMU's first time back with the band after she rested from pregnancy/childbirth of her first daughter...she is a mother of two daughters now. While she was out, the band had her learn this song. They didn't tell her that they would be performing this to her as a gift until just a few minutes before this performance. Right before this song, SAKI gave a welcome back speech to TAMU and she broke down crying. The whole band got very emotional (cut scenes during the vid). The band all turned and faced TAMU during this performance and she was crying the entire time...didn't miss a beat. It was also guitarist HAZUKI's birthday, hence the backstage footage. This band is something very special. NEMOPHILA performed LIFE as an encore at their 1 July Whisky a Go Go concert. You can purchase tickets for the Zeiko stream release of that show that will go live tomorrow morning 5am EST. See their channel for link. Can connect Twitter for chat and rewatch it for a week. Virtual concert and an absolute blast, see ya there. 🌸✨🌠
"neh-mo-fee-la" (no "i" in the last syllable). It's a five-petalled (for the five members of the band) blue flower native to North America, actually. ;) My favorite band _anywhere_ these days. Just saw them live at Whisky a Go Go on the 1st of this month. Can't say enough about that show or this band...this is a very special project.
If you want to see the rock star side of the band you can try Adabana, Dissension, or Revive if you like a heavier sound. These do have scream vocals, if you don’t mind (Though Adabana might not count as true scream vocals, just harsh). Adabana is a good enough song that you should probably check it out either way. If you prefer a softer side you can try Fighter, Monsters, or Sorai. Though all are heavier than Life.
Welcome to Nemophila and Life is a beautiful song but you have no idea what you about to see with their other songs yet. These girls are badass def check out Dissension, Revive or Adabana next for some crazy good songs!
Trust me boss, very little about these women is "straight forward rock." For the most part, they are straight up heavy duty mega crunch although they are extremely versatile. Mayu is willing to sing just about anything. No fear. From classic rock songs to Babymetal, she takes the song and makes it her own, which gives the song writers in the group a lot of flexibility in the songs they are writing. Whatever they do, Mayu can sing it and the band can perform it.
The song is sung to Tamu the drummer upon her return to them after maternity leave. The lyrics speak of new life and hope for the future. That is what was getting to Tamu as she realized this song was for her and her baby. It was also guitarist Hazuki's birthday so it was a good cover to celebrate both events. They are named Nemophila after the Latin genus of flowers, with 5 petals (5 band members) native to North America, especially the USA (like rock and roll) but very popular in Japan (like rock and roll). The majority of common names of species within that genus are some form of "baby blue eyes." For example, Hitachi Seaside Park in Japan is among gentle rolling hills covered in these flowers (over 5 million of them), and the park turns a beautiful blue every spring. There is no "i" after the "l" (L). It is not "neem-oh-feel-yah." There are two accepted pronunciations of the flower. One is similar: Neem-oh-FEEL-ah. Preferred in Italy and some other countries. The other puts the accent on the second syllable: Nim-AH-fil-ah. Preferred in majority of USA and in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Pronunciation guides online are almost evenly split between them.
You could check out a Lyric version of this song to understand just how beautiful and meaningful the lyrics to this song are. Most of their songs ARE very Heavy Metal, and Mayu's Metal voice will Surprise you. Covid started right after they formed, and they did a lot of Cover videos and Livestream events like this to get their name and their sound out. It worked - they just played their first International gig in the US earlier this month. Good Reaction videos for Nemophila are Dissension, Revive, Oiran and their newest Adabana.
Yes! Nemophila is a special female metal band! If you watch their cover song videos, you will see they are all just like normal cutie ladies😆 enjoying the music and what they are playing!! Actually they all are super talented and are badass headbangers🤘🏻😆🤘🏻 LIFE and Game Over are their ballad songs, if you watch their heavier songs you may even think they are different band! 😆 Try Revive, Raitei, Dissension, Adabana, or A Ray of Light next time. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
Okay Nick 👍 I watched song performance live @ the Whiskey A GoGo and it was 1000% more powerful and emotional. It must be like a anthem song for them. I saw streamed live this morning @4:am, on ZAIKO streaming service. The Whiskey show was EPIC, excellent sound & video quality. If you haven't seen it yet check it out. It will be in archive streaming until Saturday 7/23. But you have to purchase a ticket 😉 Thank you for your genuinely great reaction to this song Life and the band NEMOPHILA. Check out the song DISSENSION dude it's a 💯% headbanger 🙏🤘✌️
Nick, it's actually "Nemophila", not "Philia". The word is Greek, meaning "woodland-loving" (nemo is woodland, glade, pasture or field; phil or phila is "loving". *Thanks to a classical education* !!!) My Missus tells me that "nemophila" is also a genus of flower, an annual, being blue, purple or white. They are commonly known as "baby blue eyes" (she's the expert here !) I hear Dream Theater inspiration in the opening of the song, and then many hard rock/metal influences from there, but dialed back to present a positive feel vs. a darker minor-heavy melody. BTW, I see a Peter Gabriel "Growing Up" CD to your right, and I must ask: Which show ? I still have mine from the West Palm Beach show back in 2003. Love the "Magnetic Storm" book, as well. Great stuff with you and Lex; keep it up !!!
Hello Nick. I would like to recommend my favorite band from japan called Dir En Grey, they released their 11th album recently and none are similar with the other it's hard to describe the actual genre of the band but their musicians are one of the respective best on their instruments in japan and their lead vocalist named Kyo is absolutely fantastic singing, he has clean vocals, he can growl and scream so well and even make insane high whistles, my recommendation for you would be the song "vinushka eng sub live hd" you will be surprised if you give this band a chance. greetings!
"Life" has a special back story as to why it was written. Here's a link to a video of Mayu explaining why she wrote "Life". Its the same video that's on the Nemophila page but is translated with embedded English subtitles. Its split in two parts and here's Part 1 with the explanation ua-cam.com/video/bYXcqKysDJs/v-deo.html There's also this "Mayu Diary" video that doesn't directly mention "Life", but after you hear it's origin, it will add more info to the meaning and purpose of the song ua-cam.com/video/_9RR5Wjl0Zk/v-deo.html. So in a nutshell, the 1st video is an interview with Show-Ya frontwoman Keiko Terada and Mayu to promote a "Show-Ya vs Nemophila" show. In it Mayu reveals she actually wrote the "Life" lyrics after auditioning at Naon on Yaon festival to be a "Cute Girl" opening act with her old band Lipstick. They didn't win a spot and Mayu was bummed because she always wanted to perform at Hibiya Garden (famous outdoor venue in Tokyo). Even though they lost Mayu still got some encouraging advice from Keiko, who was judge. Later Mayu writes "Life" based on her Naon experience and vows to one day sing it in the "Garden". In the video, Keiko does confuse Mayu's auditioning band as Nemophila, but it was Lipstick. There's a cropped photo they flash of Keiko with Mayu and it clearly shows Mayu wearing her Lipstick era make up and a Lipstick t-shirt. Keiko was probably accidently mixing up band names because Nemophila does play at Naon later on but its as Showcase Performers. As we all know Mayu eventually does get to realize her dream of singing "Life" at Hibiya and she admits to breaking down when it happened (In the "Mayu Diary" video she talks about Hibiya being a "dream stage"). A cool part about the conversation is watching the chain effects leading to "Life" being written. Even though Lipstick doesn't win, Keiko still took time to give Mayu career advice. Mayu then write's "Life" based on that experience and years later not only does she sing it at Hibiya with Nemophila but it also becomes one of Keiko's favorite song. I guess its the circle of "Life". I just wanted to share so fans get the real reason story behind "Life", but it still doesn't take away from the tribute to Tamu. Here's Part 2 if anyone want to finish the rest. ua-cam.com/video/4ZC2dKMBJyw/v-deo.html

You are adding an extra "i" to their name. They are named after the Nemophila Flower which has 5 petals (5 members) and is native to North America. It is a popular flower in Japan and the is a park called "Hitachi Seaside Park" that when they all bloom, it turns the field blue. They have JPU records who handles their distribution and promotion in the western world but has nothing to with the bands music and production. They also have English captions of the lyrics that they added to many of their song. Just have to turn the CC on.
