I quite like that, "Force yourself to send them a compliment even if you don't feel like it". Make yourself get more positive. That is what life needs to be about.

What's amazing about your words is the fact that you address all factors of the emotions that we feel, positive and negative. Also - "The mark of a professional is that they run their own race". Much needed words to hear.

Great video as per usual, Sean. Emotion, both positive and negative, is a fundamental part of art and creation but sometimes it's tricky to distil the emotions that are having a negative impact upon your own work. Watching your videos is always thought provoking and I find myself relating your words to my own experiences & mistakes, which is a great thing!

    Dear Sean,
it is a great pleasure to listen to You. Your videos, I probably have seen all, have so much to do with my life. You are sometimes answering questions I didn't knew I had.
This one now gives me the urge to tell You, 'please keep on going with Your work'.
    And
    I like Your photos.
A good example of one trying to show the beauty around us, so we can understand it too.
    Thank You
    Jörg

I had to comment, not out of latent jealousy, as you suggest, but because your channel's color themes are awesome. Muted but bright, faded but clear, and warm but somewhat distant. Good stuff

I love the philosophical elements of your vlogs, Sean. The photos are fabulous, but what you say touches me, and I frequently feel energized by your sentiments. I have a SMALL UA-cam channel, and I too would love big success, but it is what it is. I make my stuff to help kids, the way I think I can help best. Anyone helped makes it worth the effort. Like you say, people don't have to take the time to write but when they do it means a lot and I feel kind of honoured that they took the time to watch and listen and then actually say something back to me in this age of click and move-on.
Thank you for your creativity and generosity.

You slapped my face with this video. Jealousy... For the longest time I pretended that this feeling was stranger to me. With the intention to give the image of myself superior to the whole humanity experiencing this almost animalistic emotion.
But recently, "god" (or whatever the name you want to give it) put me in a situation where I struggle with jealousy a lot. I would say on a daily basis.
I knew that my ego was a big, maybe the biggest, issue in my life. But it's only now that you say it that I come to realize that the jealousy that I feel is for a major portion due to ego.
    Thank you.

I love these kind of videos from you. They convey the human side of us and you. No matter how cautious you are, you are gonna screw up. It's just how human beings are wired.
Accepting the fact you can screw up, you can be jealous, you can hate or you can dislike someone for no reason, is hard but it does happen.
I always enjoy your work. Very moody and contrasty images.

I really like your channel and I love that you don’t get obsessed with the latest or finest gear, instead being pragmatic and very reasonable about it. What I think I like the most is that you don’t only talk about your photography, but also share your experiences in life in general, and how those experiences influence your photography. This is something I didn’t see before, at least on UA-cam, and I am grateful that you do that. Thank you!

  • @Jeffswildlifeadventures

    Sean,
I am in the process of watching all your UA-cam videos. While this comment is only on one video it applies to all. You communicate in a way that is a gift. You are authentic, honest, provide constructive challenges for all of us and provide a deep heart felt love for your audience which is unique and incredibly inspirational. Your ability to include quotes which support your topic and provide additional thought provoking content is tremendous. It is obvious you are well read, remembering so many details which you recall and share with your audience. I admit I am “jealous” of your ability as I struggle to remember details but you take it even further as you weave the details into your message seamlessly which must be a super power.
I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur wildlife photographer who is still on the steep part of the learning curve of photography. I am retired and have taken the risk of stepping into UA-cam to stretch myself, force myself to continue to learn and carry a message. Your messages speak to me and I greatly appreciate the fuel you provide to me to continue to work the craft of becoming an artist.
I wish you happiness and continued success in your photography and life journey.
    One of your many fans,
    Jeff

Sean, I cannot thank you enough for creating this video and sending this message. Where I am right now, I struggle with a lot of creative jealousy that leaves me in hopeless places. It's all irrational, I let me emotions spiral out of my control. I love your bit practical advice. For years I've struggled with comparing my work with others and it's always been discouraging but I couldn't stop doing it. Being in college and studying film I'm surrounded by other creative people, some of who I find myself thinking I'm better than, others worse than which actually doesn't make me feel better at all. I feel like an pompous ass hole. What you said about seeing someone elses work and instead of wallowing in jealousy and to compliment them made so much sense. There are people I know, who I sometimes feel resentful of after seeing their picture or film and I know deep down that it's petty and useless but I can't seem to help it. I'm going to take your advice and start to tell them I admire their work, even the thought of doing this already makes me feel lighter. Like somehow it's not me against them anymore, it's a lot less pressure.

Send a compliment right away! That’s what I did most of the time! It really helps to take away the feeling of jealousy in our mind. Fear of being not as good as other people is often in our mind! We need to control that kind of emotion otherwise we will destroy ourself. Think positively and do what’s best to improve ourself that way one day we will be better than other people. When the time comes god will give us what we deserved.

Told them that buying the latest X model won't make them a better photographer, but will make them the same photographer with less money in their pockets. Thanks for this Sean. Just working my way through your work. Your voice is so easy to listen to. Totally agree with what you said. Embrace other people's work. I look at the journey I've travelled along and the path that I'm about to take.

Another beautiful, inspirational video, Sean. I loved your photos at the end as well, and also the soundtrack. The music you pick is spot on.

Such great advice - thank you for sharing your insight and mentioning The Artist Way, a book every creative should have on their bedside table.

Thank you, Sean. I found myself thinking beyond being a photographer and realized there's still the human part inherent. Words can't explain how grateful I am to you for making this. I'll be sharing with friends and soon, I hope to be able to talk about this with a couple of more people. Thank you.

That was an advice that came uncomfortably close to home... Thanks, and thank you for your excellent work and sharing these inspired photos of Madrid.

Thank you SO much, Sean. I was feeling just that towards someone and this was keeping me down. I actually have very good emotional intelligence, but this particular person got to me, i don't know why. So i remembered seeing the title of this video and came to watch you tell me with beautiful words, what i knew i should do before i went into a spiral of bad thoughts. So thank you again, the bad feelings are gone.

This is so beautifully sensitive, not just about the creative experience, but about life. I see that this has been out for about two years now, but it comes at a time in my life -- and my creative process -- when it feels very apt, and very, very helpful. Much gratitude for your insight, your sensitivity, and your wisdom.

You are just always bang on with these videos. Both visually and intellectually. Respect.

Besides good music and great thoughts, I also very like the final part when your photos change each other according to the music's tempo. As a former musician (bassist in a rock band), just like you are, I appreciate that much! Perfect video in all senses. Thank you, Sean!
