Excellent Mark...You was saying about returning to the same swims that have rewarded you in past missions, only last week i visited a swim that a few weeks before granted me four nice Barbel, then on the second visit i had nothing . Indeed never take mother nature's gifts for granted. sure does put you back down to Earth :) Cheers Mark.
Thanks Tee, yes you're right sometimes revisting an old swim can lead to a sound bump back to earth. It may sound a little eccentric but I always thank the rivers I fish even when they bring me back down to the ground with a bump or two, thankful just that they are there and their moods at times not so unlike our own.
Marvellous drama......both in the coiffure department AND on the bank!! Another belter Mark. Wonderful time of year. Enjoy, long may the purple-patch continue!
Hello Ian, thankfully that kind of trim only needs the right length guard on the trimmers, quite straight forward. Cheers regarding the barbus it made the pin crackle a bit.
Nice one mark, the run of good luck and good fish continues. I must say though, that this barbel looked bigger than 7lbs. It`s good to see someone like yourself with honesty and integrity, not adding a pound or two onto it`s actual weight.Great video !!!
Why thank you Nick that is very kind of you, I fail to see the point in lying about fish weights, at the end of the day you only cheat yourself and indirectly others.
Cracking fish Mark, stunning mint barbel, such a lovely looking fishery, bit different from the Trent by me , Lol, thanks for taking us along with you Mark, cheers craig
Hey Craig! Cheers, yes it is a rather intimate little river, quite different to the Thames or Trent and you're welcome. Thanks for stopping by to watch it and post a comment.
Mark, you're a phenomenal angler, and the amount of enthusiasm you have for and the joy you derive from fishing is totally inspiring. Your channel is one of my go-to happy-time treats. God willing I'll get to stay at the Tylney Hall in Hook one day soon and catch myself a "cracking" Loddon "beauty."
Thanks for the very kind words, I love making the various videos and vlogs in general, logging into youtube to read and reply to comments and try to be helpful if I can. I hope you do fish the Loddon, as I know you would enjoy it.
Hi Mark again a nice video. With us the fish season is almost at its end. Or you have to take part in winter fishing. But that's not my thing. Maybe once in a nice day at the port. So I can watch your uploads quietly this winter
Excellent watch as always, superb crystal clear camera work unrivalled on UA-cam fishing videos, and eloquent use of the English language. Mark you really should consider writing a fishing book or making full length videos on your favourite species into a series. I'm sure they would sell well. Glad to see your still employing the chair! 😉😂👍
Thank you so much Ady, I do have my first written chapter in the next Willow Pitch book, due to be published next year by the Little Egret Press and all being well I then plan to put pen to paper on my first full book. The series idea is a very good suggestion and would allow more filming scope and freedom in a different way as well. Haha thank you regarding the chair, it really is a luxury, even for a well padded rump like mine (lol).
I really do want to try these black snail boilies or the paste, another great video Mark, and you had to wait for this one but your wait paid off nice one! tight lines and wet knees!
Thank you and very well done on your first barbel, once you have your first it is pretty hard to say no to a second third or fourth, I'm sure it will be the first of many.
Mark ur an inspiration pal u have definitely had a positive effect on my barbel fishing but sadly they are on the decline on my local river Colne due 2 the cute furry things that the Countryside lovers adore 🤬💩
Nice video. Have you any video of river carp fishing on natural wild water , I mean wild carp not pet carp like pay lakes or fish forms etc? And what bait/method can be effected on river?
Hello again, yes I do if you go back through my uploads you will see I have a few videos for river carp fishing, I also have a playlist for "carp fishing" on my channel and this covers some river carp fishing too.
Hi Mark Love your videos mate keep the good work up, I'm wondering if you could help me please if you can? I was wondering where you get your black snail boilies & paste from as I would really like to try and use them on the Thames at Windsor. Many Thanks Ian Goldswain
Hello Ian and thanks mate, glad you like the videos and sure of course, always happy to help. The boilies are made by "essential Baits" if you google that, you will find their website and web shop.
Mark Erdwin Thank you for help Mark and once again keep the great videos coming. Ps I was watching you while I was on my holiday in the Philippines. Tightlines mucker 🎣🎣🎣
Hi again Mark Just to let you know that I was out last night this morning and used the black snail boilies/paste, I had 4 fish 5lb chub 5lb 3oz chub 7lb 5oz bream then best of all at the last knocking was a 10lb 9oz Barbel so once again thank you so much for your help. Please keep the great videos coming mate. Luv erm 🎣🎣🎣🎣
That's brilliant news Ian! A cracking capture as well, you're very welcome regarding the bait advice/info. It is by far my most reliable boilie to use.
Hi Mark, I always really enjoy your videos. If I may ask.....why did you use a centre pin reel fishing the Loddon? I've only been fishing 3 years and switch from carp to river fishing. I had my first 4lb chub and a PB at 4lb 10oz 2 weeks ago.My wife has just bought me a centre pin reel which I thought I'd have a go at trotting a float but noticed you were fishing with 12lb line straight through.Just wondered why you didn't use a fixed spool? Cheers, Mark
Hello there Mark, firstly thanks for taking the time to post a comment, it's good to hear from you and that you enjoy the videos is very much appreciated by myself, well done on your chub pbs, the first of many more to come, it sounds like you are already really enjoying the rivers. In answer to your question I like to use a centre pin reel for ledgering when possible as generally I find you get a greater sense of control when playing most fish and barbel are no exception, where all you need to do is apply thumb pressure to the drum to control how much line you want to give or increase/decrease pressure you wish to apply. The 12lb mainline was not straight through, I always use a braided hooklink, in most cases it is the supple Drennan sink braid (discontinued sadly), unless I need a coated braid or flourocarbon hook link, it was probably not so easily visible on this video, but if you check my other barbel videos or video 113 you will see the braid I usually use the most, bit of a pity that Drennan have stopped making it after all these years as it is a rather good supple braid that pins down well.
Hi Mark, Thanks for replying. I enjoy fishing the small rivers. It sounds like I’m not doing too much wrong.I’m still hoping I can get my first Teme double before the season is over.Keep up the good work 👍
A teme double would be brilliant,or Teme tigers as they are known and it definitely sounds like you're heading in a good direction with your fishing, although I am biased as I do so love rivers.
a boot heel is pretty anti-crayfish, thats what i use anyway hahah a ledgered worm at dusk with an awful big and bright nasty ledger weight to try and stop the fish hitting it, i can pull them out every few minutes. if you are eating them put them in a bait box if not the boot heel haha
i often wonder if by dispatching them and putting them in the river, am i just feeding up the rest of the population and giving them an easy winter, i have heard people say if you kill the first one that gets to your bait you are actually doing a disservice to the river as the big one is dominant and keeps the rest of the population in check? who knows - i always dispatch whether boot heel or saucepan.
There is a certain truth about what you state, as a general school of thought that where trapping is concerned if it's not done efficiently you can end up with an explosion in the crayfish population.
Hello there Tim and sorry for the delay in replying. Yes the black snail is very good, never let me down, although it obviously cannot defeat environmental change or damage to our rivers , both of which can leave an angler scratching around whatever the bait he's using.
Great fishing as always Mark! What streches of the loddon do you fish, are they club water or free stretches? I have access to one stretch of the loddon (club water) in the Reading area but its extremely snaggy, very shallow & very clear.. Ive yet to spot a fish in there that can tempt me to really give it a go!
Thanks Jack, my stretches are all club waters, I do know the section you are talking about too, they are still along there by they, I mean barbel, it is just that it can be a bit moody (tricky) when running low as it is a very shallow section in places.
Lovely barbel, great to see. I was hoping and wondering whether there would be an upload this week. Nice video to watch while having dinner. Question for you. Is there a specific type of hook you prefer to use?? Loved the vid, looking forward to the next.
Thanks Hayze, I am hoping to have a video out every friday or there abouts over the next couple of weeks as a way of saying thank you to you guys and your support for the channel. Hooks yes always an interesting topic and very subjective. Personally I will not used straight point hooks that often, due to the ease with which they can blunt on retrieval over the river bed, I much prefer hooks with a reversed beak point, along the lines of the Pallatrax "the hook" and Gardner "talon tips" both of which are amongst my favourite hooks. Unfortunately Pallatrax seem to think increasing the price of their hooks so that you need to donate a kidney to afford them is a good idea, so whilst i still use the stock of hooks that I have, once I do run out I have some of the Mosquito Tackle hooks, very well priced Wide gapes in 8s and 6s, these look strong and if you search Mozzie tackle on google, you will find they do some good offers for seven packets purchased at once.
Excellent Mark...You was saying about returning to the same swims that have rewarded you in past missions, only last week i visited a swim that a few weeks before granted me four nice Barbel, then on the second visit i had nothing .

I spend more time watching your videos than i do fishing myself lol , fantastic down to earth angling .
Thank you David and to be fair I do the same with other fishing channels on here too when I can't go.
Yet another Barbus for you mate. The Purple patch continues 👍. Well done. Looked like a lovely evening for fishing. Keep the vids coming mate 🎣
Number 1 haircut... number 1 guy!! 😁 nice fish!! 😁
Thank you Charlotte, you're so kind, the trim paid off with a welcome fish. Sorry for the late reply but I had a vacation with my family.

Hello Jan and thank you, I understand what you're saying and hopefully I can keep you contented with some nice videos during winter.
You are by far my favourite specialist angler! Love your videos, thank you
Hello there and thank you for the kind words, it is just a joy to share the passion with so many of you chaps who have a similar ethos.
Lovely fish and your lawn looks fine mate.

Quality again...I love the way you set the scene before you wet a line ....ps you can't beat a no1 up top.....
Thanks, I think it is nice to convey the atmosphere as such and true regarding the hair cut, nice and simple and long lasting.
I really do want to try these black snail boilies or the paste, another great video Mark, and you had to wait for this one but your wait paid off nice one! tight lines and wet knees!
Thanks Graham, i wholeheartedly recommend them, they are one of my go to boilies.
Quality as usual Mark must admit thought it looked bigger than 7.
Cheers Rob, yes it had a nice build to it but hollow.
Lovely fish mark I just caught my first barbel around 7 pounds
Thank you and very well done on your first barbel, once you have your first it is pretty hard to say no to a second third or fourth, I'm sure it will be the first of many.
Mark Erdwin thank you very much can't wait for your new vid
nice one mark
Cheers Cheech.
Nice fish , you're having a great run , is it the lucky hair cut ? Well done Mark.
Thanks Graham, who knows wether it is the fresh trim,it might well be.

Thanks Liam, yes sometimes and sometimes not, although so far this season bites have been generally between 10pm to around 12.
That camera is amazing, its like I'm sat there with you! what is it?. Nice fish as well good job man.
Cheers Chubalot, it is a panasonic Lumix gh5.
Hi Mark

thankyou
You're welcome Giles.
