Its a very short day today to get ready for Shabbat, but we are going for it! No plans pr guests made for a very simple Shabbat prep, but there is still plenty to do to get ready. I take you along as I clean up the house, do the mom thing, set the table, decorate our bathroom, and walk to a neighbor's house to deliver some homemade challah for Shabbat. I also spend a chunk of time sitting and having a raw talk with you about hoe things are going, and the overwhelm I have been feeling lately trying to do it all, the solution that I am bringing to my life to help me out.
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have four wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. There is nobody perfect. I tried for nobody to do the chores, and nobody did, and the house continue dirty. So I also needed help. With 4 little kids, a baby among them, homeschooling, the mitzvot … too much, you are excused😂❤️. All my love❤️

I have a disability- need gf food and other supports - I think you don't realise how much you manage with the extra diabetes and celiac care. Teaching children to live with conditions is a whole job and I really salute you for it. But getting help for those other things that anyone can do, that's the way to manage, I know it from experience.

I do enjoy your honesty and sense of humor. The reality of life is we can't do it all......all of the time. Even as a "Senior Mom " aka grandma and great grandma, I still can't do it all ! Last year was the first time after losing my husband this year it’s at my house with a lot of mixed feelings. Covid caused him to have a massive stroke. At age 61. He was a few months from retirement.

I’m happy to hear that you will have help around the house. I have 4 kids and when they were little it was such a relief to know the heavy work bathrooms, dusting, deep cleaning got done so that I could give my kids more attention. Don’t feel guilty about it. We take our cars to a mechanic or car wash, send clothes to the laundry, have gardeners, etc. love your videos and Mr. Firefly should cook any dish your family loves

OH Hanna, all the work that goes into getting the house, the food, and myself ready for Shabbat is sometimes overwhelming. But, once the table is ready and the candles are lit it is so worth the effort. I live alone and I will be the first to admit I can't do it all. There is one point that for me is a pivotal point and that is when I turn my cell phone off and simply put the secular world on pause.

For my grandson’s eighth birthday party my daughter got a huge roll of bubble wrap and taped it to the floor of the mud room. All the little partiers had the best time dancing on that bubble wrap with music and twinkly lights. It was loud, but it was quite a memory. It took me years to fullly embrace the fact that if I don't take care of myself, I can't be helpful to others. That especially goes for you moms. You have your priorities in the right order. Those sweet babies need you. You can clean your house when they grow up! 🤗❤

I do better too with a clean home! I have learned after a lot of years that when you live life in a family, housework is just on going! And the happy balance is not letting the "clean" steal your joy. I had help when my children were young. It made all the difference ! Good for you for letting go and finding your joy!

We just returned from a trip to Jerusalem. It was nice to understand some of the Jewish customs due to your channel and I could even explain some of it to my husband. Learned a lot more there too.

Having a little help is wonderful self-care! I had a housekeeper for a while and it was the best decision I made. I really struggled with admitting the fact that I could not do it ALL. I truly felt such shame over that which is completely ridiculous! When my housekeeper cleaned it gave me a moment to just breathe and not feel such constant pressure. I was able to read more and nourish my mind and soul, spend more time with my family, and take a moment for myself to fill my cup. Thank you for sharing your days with us. I'm a 50 year old, my kiddos are grown and launched, but I still work full time and struggle with making me time and being at peace when the to do lists are still full. Just made the Moroccan fish with salmon! Didn’t have any potatoes…but delicious. And I soaked the salmon in the iced lemon water - what a difference! I had to add some onion…Thanks to you and Mr. Firefly.

When you cook, make an extra main course meal and freeze it. Once a week pull that out. It’s a lot easier to just steam some veggies and bake some potatoes or something. I have done this for decades. Now that we are retired, I use my frozen stash for lunch.

Hi Chana! So happy for you! What a relief! I am exactly the same, I need a clean house to feel right. I am handicapped, and my husband picked up everything I couldn't do. He is doing a great job and he loves to be busy, but I need someone to do the heavy duty cleaning. It is getting very difficult for us. Shabbat without guests is the best thing! I hate that the kids are exited about doing things with friends but only us is not appreciated and consider ''boring'' so we make sure to have our only family time and enjoy it because family is for the life.
Cleaning does not give me joy. Having the cleaning people every other Wednesday does. You work very hard and you deserve it. And that's ok.
So happy for you to set some limits. You can try but you can’t do it all. I am single with no kids and used to be away from home 12-14 hours due to work so always had a weekly housekerpet. I am retired but kept my housekerper- it is so great to come home every Tuesfay to a ckean kitchen, bathrooms and have my floors all shined up and the rugs vacumed. So you with all you do you absolutely need a housekeeper.
I definitely feel good about my decision after I made it. Thank you for the reassurance :) Its hard to let things go!

Today I went to my candy-making supply store. I noted a few of the melting chocolate discs were Kosher. I thought it might be an idea for you for your Purim gifts. I saw Jewish symbol molds but I recall that you usually have a theme and there may be mods for that. There are also great boxes and wrappings to make the homemade gift extra special. Just a suggestion of something different, homemade and you could do with the kiddos.

Chana, you are correct, you can’t do it all. You have to prioritize what’s important and you found what works for you. I let my “perfect” view of cleaning go. Like you, I love my house to be clean but my life is complicated. I hope I can find someone to clean one level of my home.

So happy you got somebody to help with housework. I come from a family of four, my mom had a disability, and we had a lady come once a week to reset the house. I helped my daughter in law once a week, when she was a new mommy. I am house sitting for them now, and cleaning their house, and hopefully make nice food gifts as a special home coming ...

Thank you for posting this morning...you don't know how much I needed a lovely calming...well...anything this morning. My husband is 4 hours from me...and has hurt his back where he can't drive today (truck driver) he's the strongest person I know...and he called me this morning terrified because he couldn't physically get out of his truck bunk...I got him calmed...and he figured out a way to get up...he can't drive today...so praying he can tomorrow...if he gets any worse I've got to convince him to call an ambulance ...not only is he strong...he's got an extremely hard head...

Good for you. I was very fortunate that my Mom came over every Thursday and clean. Yes I also worked full time, 645 to 330ish. I had the best nursing job ever. I was a single Mom but I could pick my kids up. And have the whole evening with my kids. So I am so glad you are getting some help. No we can't do everything. I am so glad you chose the utube over cleaning. I would miss you so much. My friends reminded me that I can clean as much as I want too when my kids are grown. Those ladies were so right. It is very hard for us to admit we can’t do it all. And I found it very hard to give up control of the things that I delegated to others. It took me a long time to be okay with the way others did things-just because they did it differently than I do does not make it wrong.
Popping bubble wrap is so much fun. My grandson loves to do it.

You sound so much like me in that you prefer the cooler weather. I live in Queensland which is much like Florida as far as heat and humidity goes. We are heading into our summer and the last few days have been scorchers. I'm definitely more a winter weather person, I love the cooler temps and being able to rug up. I couldn't survive without air conditioning that's for sure with our current weather.
Mind you in the southern states, ie parts of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales and Victoria they are experiencing snowfalls! And in parts of Tasmania as well. I know where I'd rather be that's for sure. Thanks for another enjoyable video.
I sometimes think I would love to live in a very cold climate, but then I probably want hot weather lol I feel like I have the best of both worlds here, hot in the summer cold in the winter, but not too cold 😂

Chana today was almost a fiasco. I brought the wrong laundry bag. I started picking some more stuff up off the floor, to be washed, but I put in with some already washed laundry, and I didn't realize until we got to the laundromat. So, it was a really small load. We do have washers and dryers here (like 4 of each), and I still have money on my card, and I have Tide. My dad left his hat at a coffee place we went for breakfast. And at the store I had my cane (which I usually don't bring inside the store), and I left it at the self-checkout lane thing. The worker there was so nice and gave ran to me so I didn't actually leave it there. Do Jewish believe in Angels? I think one was trying to look out for me today.
That was so kind of the worker to bring it out to you! I’m glad that worked out. Yes, Jewish people do believe that there are angels, it’s spoken of in the Torah 😊

I am proud of you! Self care for you is very important! I have help 5 mornings per week! I could never maintain my home to the standard cleanliness I like without it. I will be 69 years old next week. I did fell guilty at first! Soon however it became normal me. Your family will benefit from this decision as well. When Mom is less stressed then everyone is able to relax more! Wise choice!
