Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be a followup to one of the biggest lost media searches of all time. While still very active and with one promising lead, the search is taking us to the depths of the Internet where information is becoming quite sparse, will the original be found? Let's find out! Thanks for watching!

This is what people don't understand. They are putting today's digital knowledge on 20+ years ago. Most people don't back up their data now, even less then. A lot of the commenters on this video alone were barely sentient, if even conceived, when this image came to be.

Most of the entire actual history of the Futaba imageboards is lost media. It's arguably some of the most important lost media there is, because it shows exactly what happened to Internet culture during what may be the Web's most important transformative decade in history.
It's probably worth an entire series, but a lot of people dare not speak of it at length...
there's probably reasons why it got scrubbed
A fever dream that poisoned my young mind lol. Still not sure if trade those habbo hotel days for anything though
@@NateBoiBoi Well yeah, there are good reasons not to speak of it, but because it's lost history of a place that was one of the most important parts of creative Web culture, no one really knows how we got from point A to point B.
Its most popular board moving from b to pol maps to what happened with politics in the same timeframe. So does the move from popular Web media being things people made for fun (often anonymously or pseudonymously) to things people made for profit, popularity, and agendas. The general public wasn't even aware of what a meme was until after the turn of the 2010s, which you can confirm using Google Trends.
A lot of it happened right there on and from the imageboards. Someone around 2010 broke rage comics onto Facebook, in violation of a then-taboo against mixing imageboard culture with social media, then what followed was a torrent of changes to how people engage with the entire Web. The transformation was more important than anyone at the time could've known, and no one wanted to put their name on the line to televise it.
For the very early days before anyone thought to archive stuff like this all we have is hearsay and a scant few screenshots. It's like a lost civilization.
Yeah, 10:16 I did mention about it here when muta was reading my post. I think the user Sakura Stardust reads the most into the Futuba type culture back then in a english speaking setting, if futuba was well archived instead of the state it is in right now a lot of lost media online probably be a lot easier to find/study wise.
At this point I think the most likely scenario is some guy made the image, uploaded it anonymously, and then died in the following years so he could never take credit.
maybe
Just as likely, he never knew people were looking
Or maybe he became a productive member in japanese society and completely removed himself from the internet. He should be at least in his 40s by now, so he most likely has no interest in what Western web explorers are looking for.
Or the dude is old now and doesn't really dabble in the internet, so he doesn't know there's a global-wide manhunt for him.
Nah, once an internet user, always an internet user @@solaris218

I don't think she'd even be aware of the JFK hunt, considering it's been two decades since most of her photos were scrubbed, and it's unlikely that she's on the English side of the Internet (if she even uses the Internet anymore). This is a very old case.
i doubt that the jtk is lost media forever, but it will take an insane amount of work and dedication to find it, but only if it gets found
It might as well be an edit of an image that was never uploaded. In that case, no amount of search will ever be able to find the original, sadly
@@harleck9119 this is by far the most valid statement ive ever heard regarding the image's origin

Its pretty incredible that we not only traced JTK back to the original person that the image was of, but also found roughly where the original image was probably hosted, if it ever was online. We didn't get the original, but we got so close that we're basically knocking at the front door. I think that's a solid accomplishment in and of itself.

I understand why people want to find the original image, and preserve lost media, but I think Mariko's privacy is far more important. These things were scrubbed from the internet for a reason, and what if it turns out to not be her, and all this stuff was dug up for no reason?
nexpo did a 2 hour deep dive on the origin of the jtk image and came up with a pretty conclusive result that it was derived from the mariko image! it wasnt centered around preserving the media or how the source materials were being scrubbed from existence like you were going over but it was an informative video about the origins of the image itself and the journey it took 4 chan to figure it out!
