    We live in a day and age where the stock market is mainly controlled by super computers. In fact, high frequency trading done via the computers makes up the vast majority of the volume on a daily basis.
    While attempting to do some after hours trading, I stumbled across one of these computers trying to take advantage of me. I put in a sell order, and then all of a sudden, I was no longer the best offer on the ask (I wanted to short). I adjusted my order to be the lowest sell price, and then BOOM... again, I was no longer the best offer. Because I realized what was occurring, I decided to turn the table and take advantage of the computer and turn it against itself.

      +ChanceTelevision At first I thought you were being sarcastic, but I don't believe so anymore, so thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed! It is pretty crazy out there these days thanks to the computers.

      +ClayTrader definitely not sarcastic... I was amazed.... to bring down the ASK you shorted - RE comment below, how do you bring up the Bid ?
      Thanks in advance.

    • @claytrader
      @claytrader  9 років тому +2

      +ClayTrader Whatever the best bid is, let's say $35, you could put in an order for $35.01 and see what happens. If the bid automatically changes to $35.02, then you know you've found a super computer.

    Seen this in another traders video, but he didn't explain it as much as bragging about what was going on. This explains what is going on and I get it. Direct. Honest. Answers. thanks!

      Can't say I'm shocked that someone showed this in a "bragging" way.

    You're not competing against supercomputers, but rather ones more powerful than the average servers, usually 'co-located' next to the exchange's servers. The key word here is 'High Frequency Trading' or 'HFT' (you might want to do a bit of research on the highlighted words if you haven't come across them yet).
    It is well known that market makers (MM) claim the spread as profits, by posting orders on both sides; so every time a new order is placed that narrows the established spread, the MM front runs that order in order to still be able to claim the spread.
    Once you narrow the spread enough, it is no longer enough compensation for the MM given the market conditions, so they don't front run your orders any more.

    It is a market maker bot. The issuers of ETFs usually have one if there is no natural liquidity to ensure the market that there is always a buyer and a seller.

    • @claytrader
      @claytrader  8 років тому

      "bot" = computer, so yeah, that's exactly what is going on.

    This is more than common, every once in a while I get lucky and figure out some formulas being used. I have seen some really crazy stuff over the years when it comes to these computers.

      In the world of penny stocks, I firmly stand by that. Many penny stock traders think there are "market makers" that sit behind a computer and do all sorts of weird games. I don't believe that one bit.

      >>> Start contacting your senators & congress men etc, and make them aware of whats going on.
      >>> Start making more videos about it, and start encouraging your subs to contact their local polititians and making noise about it too. You have the platform to begin to ruffle some feathers, if you wanted to.
      >>> But the only way for it to "maybe someday" have laws put in place that make sense and level the playing ground and are fair and just for all not just the whales & tankers, is to start making noise about it to your state reps! This reminds me of a story about a company called smithfield, a large commodity trader and pork producer. On one hand they had one of their guys go on a tv talk show and say buy pork futures and at the same time Smithfield was selling pork contracts on the floor of the chicago exchange. That was before computers so manipulation is nothing new.

    We watched Phil Town run into this at his workshop and someone asked, "Is that a person on the other end? That was too fast." He said it was. Now I know what really happened! lol I think his reply was basically that traders do this all the time and are really fast. Yeah, not that fast! Accounting for the speed of light and human reflexes, not possible.

    • @claytrader
      @claytrader  7 років тому
