Please keep going. I would LOVE to see a longer term analysis. I wrote my own algos for stocks last year and found it to be anything but "earn money while you sleep" because of the "tweaking". But I am curious to see how other algos work so please keep this experiment going.

YES! give it another shot! I think that full auto algo trading is a bit optimistic, but getting to know one instrument (when I tried it I stick to MES) and doing a quick market assessment before running the also could turn into a low effort/low stress trading system! not-full auto, but for the low effort I think it'd be worth it :) Good luck and looking forward to the next video!
Excited to say he has stayed for another month. So I am excited to see his progress in my Algo. My main focus is NQ/MNQ as ES is a bit tough with Algos (at least in my experience). ES has the liquidity but its pretty tight unless we get a true trending day.

@@steelko665 well yeah.. I hope so too.. but it happens. He shouldn't have traded RTY when he only had 1,500 left and we talked about it. To trade any mini contracts you need AT LEAST 7-10k in your account. The risk is just too big otherwise.
Full algo trading works. You need a zoo of working algos, though. Thoroughly backtested. Knowing when they work, and when they don't. All profitable. And then employ them altogether. Monitor them. Execute them. Quality check them. They all stop to work sooner or later. And therefore you need to constantly do research for new ones.
So basically having a working process to have ideas, thoroughly analyze and challenge them. Discard the bad ones. Optimize the good ones. Then deploy them and milk them while they work.
A lot of work. No get rich quick scheme. And needs a sharp mind, a humble approach, and on top of that a decent work ethic.

Thank you for your test drive and expense to do so. I had just started watching her videos and was seriously interested in the idea of "40%+ per month letting it do all the work" type of system which sounded awesome while also seeming too good to be true.
If it returned 40% a month, that thing would be straight to top end firm somewhere, not online for retail traders

It is great to see someone showing their experience with methods and Algos that they are testing live. So many channels test and optomise trading strategies but they only ever back test them, even if they use a papermoney account you never see them prospectively test these strategies.
So while I would hate to see you loose money, as you are one of the few people who actually show their live trading, yes please do continue to test the algo. It is interesting to hear what you make of it. It has always bugged me too how something can be profitable for one person, or for one period of time, but then exactly the same thing looses money for someone else doing what should be exactly the same thing. I would like to see better and more detailed analysis of what exactly is being done in the profitable situations, compared to when what should have been the same methodology resulted in losses.
This video has shown exactly what I've been thinking of doing for the last few months. Thank you for doing this, and I would like to see another month of this to see, like you said, once you get up the learning curve it starts to be more successful.

I appreciate that you shared this. This is the first time I’ve seen a Trading Bot in action. As for testing it out for another month, personally I am indifferent to that. It would be cool of course and I would watch it. I’d just hope it would be more successful for you next time.
What I would find more interesting though, is if you made your own Trading Bot and tested it out even with just paper trading. Not sure if you’d want to commit the time to doing that, but to see something in action where you can explain the logic you implemented would be cool. Even if it were a video series showing the development from learning to having a functioning trading bot. Just a thought.
I have several videos showing my Algo in action. You can watch those.. Also just from experience I have been doing this for over two years and the knowledge you learn and dedication and time that it takes to continually update strategies and settings is never ending.

Was waiting for this one and happy to see it. I would say , if budget allows to stick with it and let’s see what happens. I think with a bit more of the system under your belt you should be able to fix those issues you ran into and get out in the green next time.
Great video and as always, I appreciate your transparency. I think the biggest thing I've learned from your videos and from my own 4 month futures trading experiment is that futures are tricky, can make you money and can definitely lose you money just as easily.
I'm sure we would all love to see you do another month. Maybe you can get a few paper accounts going alongside the real money account to get several different outcomes.

Yes. NinjaTrader allows you to have several simulation accounts while alongside of your personal account. He could run minis and see how the folks that are making $500 to 3k a day are doing it.. they all have accounts over 7k and trade 1 mini or more per trade. I typically tell folks to not trade minis unless they have AT LEAST 10k in their account as futures can be unforgiving.

Definitely interested in more of these. Even if it's just paper trading I'd say run as many of the strategies on as many of the recommended intruments as possible to get the largest sample size you can.

Paper trading is one of the best ways to really be able to see just how well a particular strategy will work without any of the risks and something that I am constantly recommending that people try.
I recommend paper trading on two different levels, one that is close to your real world budget so that you can see how the results would actually be with a limited portfolio, and the second one with the sky's the limit approach where you can trade as much as you want just to see an aggregated result.
There is no substitute for good old fashion learning and doing it yourself. Nice video Daniel!

I completely agree about this open source algo stuff. My investor wrote and uses his own algo that he uses for trading and I know that he has never open sourced his algo.
Good video, cool to see someone start from no knowledge and try it. I've known some ppl. that have had minor success with algo trading but I think your point in the beginning is true...the great algos aren't getting sold on twitter for $1000. The quants that make them are keeping them or selling them to the fleece vests on Wall st. for a lot more.

Great insight Daniel, I build my own bots in Metatrader and find they have to be switched on and off based on market conditions, I would love to see a longer test even on demo

i would love to see the other trend based algo working on a live account if you are down for it. I have hand coded a few futures trading bots myself in python and know the frustration of changing and evolving markets so id be very curious to see how it ends up doing?
With what I’ve learned over two decades in the stock market, given enough time, solid investments have the potential to double the initial principal amount, but many investors are instead attracted to the lure of high yields in short periods of time despite the possibility of unattractive losses before even getting out. So the onus is on newbies to beware.

Would love to see this trading strategy for another period. Couldn’t help but think the learning curve could take a couple of months. Perhaps a good way of imagining the algo is thay it accelerates this curve, rather than completely remove it

"Why would anyone sell a trading algorithm when they just can scale it up themselves": Many reasons
a) Affiliate commissions. Trading Bot providers recommend you to use their house broker, which typically pays ongoing commissions on the trades the retail traders make
b) Revenue from sales. Trading bots sell from under $100 to up to $1000 per license
c) The more people that use your strategy, the more likely it will work. Granted, the FX Market is huge so the impact is neglectable. But still, as you often operate within market makers, it could have an impact.
So it definitely makes sense to sell Trading algorithms.
$100 to $1000 arent accurate figures for any succesful trading bot, try 20k

Yes. I agree. YM is super solid as well as NQ on the trend Algo. Nasdaq is my favorite though, so I always start with that product when I have a new Algo developed.

Back and forward test everything without curve fitting and incubate your algo on demo without manual intervention for several months before committing your hard earned cash .
Being there, done that and this is the only way to learn how to trade and to get more experience and minimize losses, good luck and thank you for being transparent .

With NT, I think the margin required to take the trade also considers your auto stop loss level so perhaps you had enough margin for the initial trade, as mentioned, but if the trade turned on you, you wouldn't have had enough margin to cover the loss of where your stop loss was placed?? just a thought. I truly love Daniel's channel because of his honesty. The only people making money with these kind of promising bots, algorithms, strategies etc. are the ones we are paying to. If you want to make money, you have to create value for others. By buying something, you will not make money the next day, period.

Should consider running multiple, complementary strategies at the same time. So mean reversion and trend, you wouldn't expect both of these to do well at the same time (by definition), but if both strategies are profitable in the long term, they should do well together in a portfolio. You'd probably need to put in more capital, but keep the trade size level small.

U should come up with a rule based system for determining trend vs range environment. It's something that pro traders do everyday religiously before mkt open. Definitely curious to see your results trying this again.
Otherwise, I think your expectations were a bit unrealistic headed into this, even despite your skepticism. $1.5k/month would be ridiculously cheap for a 100% hands off net profitable algo trading strategy. For that price it is not unreasonable to have to tweak it. Great video, gl
It would be interesting to see you continue for sure. It felt like you were making quite a few tweaks with regards to adding/removing tickers and strategies. Can't say how much that is encouraged by the service you use, but with so many modifications I'm not surprised you saw such inconsistent results. Would be interesting to see you stick it out with one thing for a longer duration and see how it goes.
Interesting introspective on this. It seems like one would have a good deal of success, or is likely to if they set everything up properly and spend a good deal of time learning how it works and finding the fun quirks. Again, this is interesting. Thanks for posting.

Yes I think you need to give this developer a fair shot it sounds like she has a pretty good success rate jumping in and out of micros and minis and various contracts though maybe not the best idea just stick to one and test it for three weeks look forward to seeing the follow up!

An algorithm can make any decision you do. You just have to tell the computer what decisions to make and when. The success of the algorithm depends on the success of the trader programming it.
You are excellent at presenting your videos. NT has a big learning curve. I appreciate your videos.
I am curious, NT seems to have a lot of features, but why would you think they built algorithms centered around something like NT rather than just a brokerage API? Perhaps it's to kill any dev time for push/pull features? Or is there some sort of speed factor here with trade placement? I ask because it seems like you have experience.

Great vid.... In Strategy Analyzer there is a check box to include commissions in your backtesting and there is also a Slippage section you can set to adjust for variance (usually people set to 1) ... would enjoy seeing another followup on this.... NT8 does have a learning curve but is quite powerful once you are over that.... maybe try the algos on some currency futures also -)
yes, but the "cost" they show in the SA is always VERY OFF with what the real commission structure is, this is why myself and most of my members keep it OFF. It will literally say your cost for 2 trades is like $200 and that is just not correct.

the worrying thing about this to me was that the platform blocked his trade on lack of margin when it shouldn't have done so ... at least I assume thats the case from what was described in the video ...
@@zatarawood3588 No, it blocked it properly. He was trying to trade 2 RTY contracts (which with margin cost $500 each) when he had less than $1,000 in his account ($700 at that point). So everything was correct.

I had a similar experience while trading in Forex. Back-testing and simulation accounts always show a positive result and somehow while trading on the real account, sh*t gets real.

Bitcoin has been the most profitable investment online, if only you could trade with professional broker that will work you through the process needed.
Trading with an expert is just the best strategy for newbies and it will really help alot as a beginner.
As a beginner who don't understand how Bitcoin trade works and you want to make profit from it, I'll advise you to first start working with a professional broker

Algo trading is something I just started looking into so this video has perfect timing for me. Please retry the experiment with weekly backtest comparisons prior to taking a strategy for the day/week and sticking to micros only. Maybe on a 10k paper account to minimize real world losses. Don't jump from MNQ to MES, for you account size stick with MYM, and only MYM. You not factoring in slippage.

Thanks for your insight! We did alot of bot testing over the years and in our experience it is possible to make money with them but you need to stay on top of the settings and tweak them as depending on how the market dynamic changes the bot parameters of the bot might not be as good depending on the strategy
A trading bot that needs constant intervention from the account holder. Might as well do it yourself then.
