Andrew Cyrille was born in Brooklyn, New York to Haitian immigrant parents. Cyrille’s Haitian background and participation in drum and bugle corps shaped his early musical development. He would soon begin playing with jazz masters like Coleman Hawkins and Mary Lou Williams, before beginning an 11 year tenure with Cecil Taylor from 1964 to 1975. Throughout his career he has committed to investigating the full timbral and melodic quality of the drums, resulting in a series of solo and collaborative percussion albums, including projects with Milford Graves, Rashied Ali, Don Moye, and Kenny Clarke. A highly sought after collaborator for his vision and creative finesse, Cyrille has also worked extensively with dancers, poets, and visual artists. www.andrewcyrille.com/
William Parker is a bassist, improviser, composer, writer, and educator from New York City, heralded by The Village Voice as, “the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time.” In addition to recording over 150 albums, he has published six books and taught and mentored hundreds of young musicians and artists. www.williamparker.net/

Wonderful to see Andrew again. He did a gig for me @ Montclair State College for me in 1970 featuring Sam Rivers, Charlie Haden, Charles Sullivan, Lonnie Liston Smith---tour de force!! I believe I also saw him with Sir Roland Hanna....and of course, Cecil.

One of my favorites as well at all points in his career. Amazing the many timbres he can draw out without changing sticks. You can hear an entire musical arrangement surrounding this. Thanks for making this available.

Such a wonderfully clean sound from one of the masters. He is also beautifully generous and insightful in the interview. A delightful member of the music world, and of humanity
