  • **READ MY LOWER COMMENT BELOW** I bought this Thule 9027XT (9027 XT) APEX XT Swing Bike Rack so that I could have access to the back of my truck on trips and keep the tonneau cover on while traveling and be able to put my truck tent up without unloading the bikes. This is a great solution. Inserting the locks was tricky and there were a few other things I learned in the process. Hopefully you will benefit from watching.
I just completed my first trip with the rack. Drove approximately 2,000 miles. I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. One of the straps released under the strain. I am towing a tandem (wheels off) so perhaps that's what made the difference. I ended up buying a heavy duty twist tie (really cool) from ACE as a safeguard. My thinking that the indirect angle of the bolt (that I mention in the video) would work out okay ended up to not be true. I was just stripping the bolt and threads. Before it got too far, I looked at it hard and ended up filing down the tab on the "End Cap Swing Pin Dock" (www.thule.com/en-us/thule-sup...) so that the "Anti-Loosening Knob" bolt could slide up higher to meet the mating hole straight across. It worked great. Not sure why I had to fiddle with it like that to get it to work. Now it all seems to line up great. I would say if you get a rack and the bolt lines up with the hole you're golden. If not, you can return it or shave down the tab as I've described. Let me know if you have any questions. It was also a bit disappointing that when you swing it out fully, there is a lock that keeps it from coming back towards you, but there isn't a lock that keeps it from swinging a little further into the side of your suv/truck and scratching it. So I may rig something for that too. Still not too disappointed, but they could do better. It's Thule!

Thank you for the video! Needed to make sure a truck tailgate is capable of coming down all the way when the rack is fully swung out. I have a Tacoma so I'll definitely be able to let it down. Im aslo about to purchase Thule Xsporter Pro Adjustable Height Truck Bed Ladder Rack - Aluminum - 450 lbs - Black, so I can load our 4 kayaks on it.

I just bought the same rack last week. Same exact issues you called out. With alittle figuring out I adjust the levers tight. Im please with the purchase. Straps a little tricky. As you said they snap into place. You did a good job explaining. I do recommend laying down a tarp or blanket to set the rack down. Avoids scratches. Gotta take care of the purchase. I also recommend storing while not in use. Keep it in good shape. Thanks for the nice job explaining. Good video.

That sounds great. I'm headed out on my first trip with it now. Hopefully it will perform as expected! I think it will.

I am looking to buy a bike rack so that I am not loading four bicycles into the back of a suburban. Thank you for creating this review. I found it very helpful.

Just installed same rack. Bolt does not line up with hole. Got it in but it’s crooked. Not sure how filing the end of locking pin will help. Thanks
    Great video by the way.

You do have to work it a bit. Not sure why they didn't make them line up better.

@@tandemtravels my local bike guy bent the outer arm down slightly so now it fits better, not perfect but better. Also not a fan of the straps so I’m replacing them with velcro straps. Other than all that I like the rack.
