On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

could you do another dogfight against the hornet in the tomcat? but the catch this time, is that you leave the AFCS STAB switches off. although she becomes slightly harder to keep steady, she becomes alot more responsive and you can pull some REALLY insane AOA
If the Russian aircraft were carrying the R37 I think the odds would have been more even.
Could you simulate yourself in an F-35B with a Harrier wingman going up against two J-20s or a J-20 and a SU-35 / J-11, BVR? Trying to simulate an Amphibious Assault Ship air wing vs China...
#1 Meteor 2-For-1 totally makes up for that one miss.
All the more reason to never fly such a close formation during actual missions.

The British/ Euro typhoon jet is a fighter jet that can hold its own against f-15/16 ect, it even beat the f-22 when up close and personal in a training exercise. Glad to know thay are up in the sky protecting us.
The only reason I want to see the F-4 get released is so heatblur can move onto the typhoon!
@@jamielye2246An a10 has an f22 kill in a "training" exercise. Absolutely meaningless in a real world scenario. I do love the Eurofighter though! I'm very glad we're on the same team!

The Meteor is most definitely the best BVR missile on the planet. No contest. We will see what the new AIM-260 will be capable of that, but until then, it is a long way to second place.
@@FacitOmniaVoluntas.it’s weird that the US just cancelled the super long range missile programs for years after the Soviet Union fell apart. The AIM-260 is the first long range Fox-3 in decades for the US
@@ICECAPPEDSKY It’s only somewhat weird. The reason why the AIM-260 is getting developed is the increasing threat of Chinese BVR capabilities. Russia is not and never was the Soviet Union and as such they’re not a near peer adversary. The US knew about their vastly inferior technological capabilities, meanwhile China came somewhat out of nowhere.
I find this type of video fascinating, it's a bit slower-paced but I love being able to see and understand what's going on. Please keep making more of these, GS!

The meteor is like a cheat code for air to air missiles. It's just too good.
That last Meteor looked like it lost him then re-acquired.
The Sukhois were much too close to the bombers. So they had the same problem as the German fighter pilots during the Battle of Britain, when Goering forced them to fly closer fighter cover to the bombers. This caused them to lose initiative and maneuverability, making them much easier targets for the British fighters.
The pilot sticking out the bottom of the plane just kills me!

Works great until you realise that the OTHER side manufactures 40+ cruise missiles for every Meteor.
Change that to 100+ if you look at China as the enemy instead.

The typhoon + meteor combo seems pretty OP
This is an important lesson.
Any plane is only as good as 1) the pilot 2) the radar and 3) the missiles it carries.
And the Meteor is simply the best missile in the world at the moment.
Seriously, my favorite view was at 14:20. I almost thought that missile was going to miss (though I saw it hit from a distance). But I loved that camera angle showing the Meteor adjust trajectory and smoke that Flanker.
Maybe not as suspenseful as some of your content, GS. But a great Meteor/Eurofighter demo. And there's always the chance that you'll say, "I'm way out of his range" and explode. 😄

Impressive capability from the Eurofighter. Would be curious to see how the Rafale+meteor fares in a similar setup.
i would say similar :D
iirc the EF can reach higher altitudes and speeds and thus can loft the meteor even farther in theory. but inder the line i guess they will perform pretty similar
not sure about radar performance though
Somewhat superior kinetic performance from the Eurofighter, possibly better radar for the Rafale (rough parity between RBE2/CaptorE but not all Eurofighters can be equipped with Captor, while all Rafales can be upgraded to latest model including RBE2 if budget is found), possibly also better Spectra EW suite for Rafale allowing more aggression.
All in all very similar performance, both aircraft coming from the same development programme and fitting in the same "spec box".

I’ve heard a strong case made that the meteor is the best air to air missile in the world. I know the US is working on some new air to air missiles that are supposed to be an upgrade to the AMRAM, but they aren’t out as of yet.

The way of last Meteor hit its target is amazing, snapped to the target in the very last seconds. Otherwise, it would missed.

One day I was coming back to school and there was a eurofighter typhoon doing extremely tight turns close to where I live
Back in the 60's and 70's the English Electric Lightning was specifically built to do exactly what the Typhoon does in this mission, bomber interception.
A lot more difficult with the missiles of that era though!
The RAF has a quick response unit that often has to intercept Bears coming in over the North Sea whenever Russia feels like flexing.
Yeah the lightning was a beast. Those old star streak missiles sure weren’t though. I just think it’s mad how the lightning was a pure interceptor, and the typhoon is at least as good at interception if not better, and an insane air to air superiority fighter, and a good strike aircraft.
It would be awesome if you could somehow show the radar screen maximized in the top left corner or something like that from time to time, maybe with some short explanations what information it provides. For people like me who lack knowledge and/or whatch the video on a smaller device like a smartphone, that would be very helpful.

No chance they hear the missile coming in, meteors will stay supersonic for the entire flight time unless they are launched from a massive distance and spend a lot of time flying after the motor burns out
As long as the missile is approaching supersonic, nothing in front of it will have time to hear it.

I thought this was a great video. sometimes the dog fighting, while cool, can be repetitive. I see dog fighting like MMA fight and the BVR fights like sniper fights, especially this one where your trying to pick off specific planes. I would welcome more videos like these - trying to hit specific targets in a group of targets at BVR.

You should do another Bear Hunt mission where you're engaging TU-95s guarded by SU-57s.
To make things even more interesting, you should do some hunter missions where you fly as the red air. J-20 vs. B-52s for example.
Imagine being Russian and being told to attack London or something. Just flying over minding your own business and your friends suddenly start exploding

Imagine if the Eurofighter could guide several Meteors at once, like the F-14, Phoenix missile combination. You could have wiped out that entire squadron before anyone knew they were under attack.

While the full name of the aircraft is Eurofighter Typhoon, I think only in Britain it is generally referred to as "Typhoon". I know for a fact that in Germany and Austria it is referred to as "Eurofighter", and I believe it's similar in the other European user nations (Italy, Spain). No idea about the gulf states though.

You have to change that video ending soundtrack. I am a flight fan since I can remember (Tomcat's fault), and I keep fighting that urge to dive into DCS... That ending beats are like a Meteor! I'm defenceless 😂😂😂😂
Just curious. In a real fight if there was su-35 armed with the r-37m, would it make sense for them to launch the 37m's at extreme ranges to keep the eurofighter defensive while the su-30s advanced? This would basically have little to no chance of hitting unless the eurofighter did not defend. I think.
I guess just trying to keep the eurofighter from launching its meteors as long as possible.
In a real fight, you would not have such a scenario to begin with, where an enemy fighter could just fly in without care and unseen. Especially with modern missiles with much highter range than that Meteor, you simply stay inside your heavily protected zone and the fighter would have to fly in there to take a shot.
@@miriamweller812The meteor has a maximum range of 200km and a range of 60km where it's not possible to evade it. There's not really anything with longer range.

@@TymaDem To be determined if the AIM-260 can match the Meteor. So far, rumours are saying AIM260 is not equipped with a ramjet sustainer engine, which is really the beauty of the Meteor - absolutely deadly no escape zone.
Obviously, this is just armchair general talk. None of us know the real specs of the missiles.
