Oaker gets seat covers for his truck and so they put it in and make it all pretty. Murrie and Natie got the counter tops for both bathrooms ready and prepped and then poured concrete on them. It was looking all good till it wasn’t. But hey you live and you learn right?! We tried our best to fix the issues and then poured epoxy over them. We probably made every mistake but hey they are done they just have some CHARACTER! Oaker helped Murrie do the finishing touches and they look great!
Thanks for watching we appreciate all of you! Make sure to grab some MERCH!

The counters are looking fantastic. Murrie, I am so impressed by your fearlessness and tenacity with jumping right in and doing it all yourself, with help from family. Shows a great example to the kids and everyone watching.

Great idea on using the tie rap to pull the weight over. You can loosen up the weight and lower it down on the hose, as well. The counters look amazing.

Those seat covers are like an imitation of the upholsrey I had put on the seat of my 1961 F100 back in the '70s. So they're definitely cool.👍

You can adjust where the weight goes on the pull out faucet in the bathroom. You pry on the metal clasp and it opens like a clam shell. The weight is supposed to limit how far the the hose is pulled out, and it assists the hose to retract - this is why you can adjust to fit your application.

    It's turning out awesome
I've done concrete counter tops before we polished them.
The epoxy idea is a really good idea.
I'm going to be doing some again in the near future. We use pea Stone ready mix, add in some Portland cement for extra strength. Also some dye
We trowel and then normally sand it down. I would still try to smooth. and then apoxy
    Looking really good.

Tip from an Old Cogitator: Cut a scrap of indoor/outdoor carpet to fit the shape of the seat bottom and put that on before installing the seat covers and they will be more comfortable plus they will last longer too. Now I didn't tell you to do this but just saying... A Yoga Mat that's conveniently lying around the house can sometimes be used instead of the carpet. Your on your own if the mat turns out to belong to Sis or Mom.
    Best!

Looking good. Yeppers, understand budgets and finding workarounds to maintain them.
Been wanting to try my hand at cement tops but was looking at the reverse process of building a form to cast the top in that allows the use of stencils to pour colored grout into before the cement for lettering and patterns in the top like reverse painting on glass. A bit more work since your using wire to reinforce the cement but no mess inside the house and less chance of damage to the cabinets. Mixing in colored broken glass bottles is a consideration too.
What is the temperature rating of the epoxy your using? My guys are prone to melting the bottom laminate off of aluminum clad pots and pans and then cooling them on the counter so I used heat resistant double fired tile for my kitchen counters 30 years ago.
    Best!

As a former custom home contractor if you add some sand to the self leveling mix it will strengthen it a bit.

  • @dustymojave
    @dustymojave Місяць тому

Tile adhesive would probably work better for the cracked/broken self leveler than silicon.
No backsplashes? Not sure how you would do them other than pouring them flat, then gluing them to the walls and caulking the joints to the tops of the counters.

I know it's like $10 per roll, but stucco tape is your key. Paper masking tape gets weak when wet, doesn't stick as well, and runs when you peel it. It seems a lot like wide electrical tape, it is not.....other than it is vinyl. We'd leave it on window frames and soffit metal for WEEKS with no residue and mostly clean peel with some tiny spots due to material drying (EIFS Alpha base is basically a cement type material... considered artificial stucco).👽🗿👽🗿👽

Quartzite is about $75/sq ft and is most often chosen over granite or marble which are more per square. Your epoxy might be sandable to be refinished if it wears or gets damaged. You can also just replace them whenever you might want to later on down the long road of life. Super/extreme stretch caulk is our finish choice since it really lasts a decade without cracking and paints really well.
