This is the same looking key to what our 2007 A-Class has - 2 buttons. The battery in the key is only used for the central locking - only locks and unlocks the doors. We recently had a problem with the ignition. The key would go into the ignition but it wouldn’t turn - the ignition wouldn’t unlock, neither would the steering wheel. This is not related to the battery in the key, in our case it was related to the actual key and the components on the circuit board inside the key case.
