Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough Kt CBE 29 August 1923 - 24 August 2014) was an English actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. He was the president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), as well as the life president of Chelsea FC.

What a lovely man, Met him several times, worked in his house on Richmond green. He even made me a cup of tea, saw him driving his green Rolls Royce Corniche down the kings road on the way to Stamford Bridge. He was a brilliant Actor and Director. Incidentally his Brother David Lived a few houses down on the Green at Richmond. R.I.P. Sir Richard.

I had some work colleagues who also worked at his house and were treated the same. They said he was just a normal guy who also offered them a cuppa as soon as they were in the door.

I love the story he used to tell about being 'recognised' by an American lady (somewhere or other, can't remember where) She was 'so thrilled to meet him', told him that she admired all his work yadda yadda but THEN she said "But Oh Mr. Attenborough, when I saw you with those gorillas......."

Sir David Attenborough is one of my biggest inspiration since childhood as my school used to let us watch his planet earth programs then we had to do a lesson of what we had just watched. I have grew up to love Animals especially Tigers and Lions. May he live for many more years,
Richard Attenborough was remarkable in his early role as “Pinky” in Brighton Rock and was also a very convincing “Christie” in 10 Rillington Place. A very talented man who left his mark.
Was told to watch 10 R P rather than any other. It was true to the fact and was filmed outside the real house and next doors interior
@@jessicapayne8622 At the time of filming the original House still existed but for some reason they had to shot the interior scenes in the adjoining property. Shortly after the film was completed the whole street was demolished as part of a slum clearing programme but Richard Attenborough was outstanding in the role. The film is worth watching.

He reminds me of Sunday evenings when I was a kid in the 80s. The UK only had three or four TV channels so there was always a movie on where Richard Attenborough or John Mills were trapped on a submarine or were captaining a war ship or were trying to escape from a POW camp. The Great Escape was a great favourite.
The film in the submarine is ‘Morning Departure’ and one of my favourites.
@@borleyboo5613 I was just saying in general but yes, I remember that one. For some reason the sub can't resurface and only a few of the crew can be saved. Attenborough displays his cowardice throughout but I think in the end, redeems himself. I must have seen it a few times on a rainy Sunday evening when I was a kid.
One of his most memorable roles for me was the factory worker in "the angry silence" that film really stuck with me, also loved "Brighton rock" and the film "sand pebbles" where he played opposite Steve McQueen, it's only when you start going through the film's he was in you realize what a great actor he was, as well as director, another one sadly gone.

Richard made SO many great movies but my particular favorites are Brighton Rock where he played a teenage psychopath , and 10 Rillington place where he played real life murderer John Christie . A very accomplished director too of course , both Richard and David have bought the world so much joy .

Lovely video, I loved him in my 2 favourite films, The Great Escape and Miracle on 34th Street. He was and always will be the best Santa 🎅 ever. I cried the day it was announced he had passed. Brilliant man. RiP 🙏

My favorite Sir Richard Attenborough movies (as an actor) are ''Brighton Rock'', ''I'm All Right Jack'', ''The Great Escape'', ''Seance on a Wet Afternoon'', ''The Flight of the Phoenix'', ''10 Rillington Place'' & ''Jurassic Parc''. And my favorite movie he directed, gotta be of course ''A Bridge Too Far'' about the famous battle and its failed attempt of the Allies in the 'Operation Market Garden' in 1944 in my hometown Arnhem, The Netherlands, to recapture the Rhine Bridge from the Germans.
So interesting.Thank you.I was in Thailand in 2004.I later moved there in 2014.Still there.Beautiful country.

Richard directed a fantastic film in 1994 called 'Shadowlands' which starred Anthony Hopkins and Deborah Winger. I saw him directing the two actors at Great Central Railway station on Leics in '93. The film was released a year later. That's my fave film. Everyone should watch it. It's a tear jrker though!

Great actor Great director and a Great man, it was nice that he could be with his wife in the nursing home and that he is laid to rest with his family, l remember him in a film called A Matter of Life and Death with David Niven, it was only a small part and he only said one line and that was in1946 might have been his first part, well done Paul filming in a church with people, not easy thanks again.

Nice video Paul, Richard Attenborough was of course also in The Great Escape, also in many Ealing comedies but my favourite with him in was the film,The League of Gentlemen, which also had the late great Jack Hawkins and Terrance Alexander among others.
Hi Paul, so tragic to lose family members and especially a young girl at 15 years of age. That must have been so devastating for them. A film that stood out to me was 10 Rillington Place (a true story) depicted so well with John Hurt playing a Welshman so well. That film stayed with me for years such was the direction and ambience of it. Great tribute by you Paul, much respect, thanks
I agree with you Chris , it was the most moving film of such a sad and true story from a different era.The ambience was so life like of the period as it was filmed in Rillington Place, just before demolition but not No10 as you are probably aware .Also , John Dankworth's sultry musical score entwined with the sound of an air-raid siren.Thank you Paul for another most sensitive video.

He really did have quite a resumè didn't he ? I'd imagine he looked back on his life with great satisfaction. I liked him in " The Guinea Pig " as well as the films you mentioned. Brilliant in " The Great Escape ", but let's face it good in everything and a fantastic director also.

I used to live on the isle of Bute. Richard Attenborough had a house there, which he often stayed at during the summer. You'd see him around the town sometimes. Everyone knew him as Dickie and treated him as an everyday guy, which I think was probably one of the reasons he liked the place.

I live on the Isle of Bute in Scotland where he had a huge home in the country side which you could rent out after he moved permanently back to London , my family stayed in it for a weeks holiday and I slept in his bed!! He had a huge cinema room which wasn’t ever heard of in those days and would invite all the islands children to watch his films on the big screen. He would visit often and I once saw him driving the wrong way down a one way street in the town! What a British legend he was ♥️

incredible man l thought he was great in jurassic park and for me the best santa claus in a movie he had a gentle charm about him must have been very tricky in the church but you did it very respectably paul.
