Ultimate 2020 Toyota Corolla Review | No Longer a Boring Commuter Car
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- The new 2020 Corolla is redesigned and ready to compete with newer entries in the compact class. The most dramatic improvement is how well it rides and handles. Features are limited compared to some other cars in the class like the premium Mazda3, feature rich Kia Forte, and overall good value Honda Civic, but it's still certainly worth a look due to it's long standing reputation of reliability. The trim levels remain similar the L models and X models, with the XSE being the most sporty and the XLE being a bit more traditional. Enjoy this 2020 Toyota Corolla XSE review!

Dude I love that you showed us how the lights look turned on at night! Awesome little touch on your behalf, I havent seen any other automotive reviewers doing that!
Glad to hear it!
true that
That’s my dream car. I hope next year I’ll finally get one. I’ve been working hard for it and I deserve it.
Standard options are the best for the money. L Or LE
SE is definitely nice, I have one and it’s a great amount of zip to get up and go
Actually I’m thinking about a Tesla instead of a Toyota.
I just bought an SE Toyota Corolla 2020 and love this car. It's really good on gas and runs very smooth.
Glad to hear it 😁👍
How much to fill the tank ?
@@msbosset3905 I'm filling it with about 30 dollars and putting 91 at chevron. I drive about 40 miles a day back and 4th to work and I dont use it all.
Love the sport selection it moves and when your on the streets eco is awesome !!
@@savinocueva5207 how much gas did you use for the week?
I love the fact that you compare every trim level
Glad to hear it!
Just upgraded to a SE and I love it .. we had our 07 it has 125k miles and it still runs great . My wife got the new one 🤣 . We took my sequoia for a service and we took a rental yes a SE ! They hooked us .. so we decided to get one .. 👍
I just bought mines, certified for 19!!! I love it so much has everything I need in a car!
I went with the 2020 Corolla SE over other brands for one reason - reliability...
I went with every OTHER brand for several reasons -- the others have better build quality, better materials, better features, better seats, better infotainment systems, more power. I'd rather drive a better all-around car that's reliability is questionable than drive a reliable car that's a cheap, rattle-box that I hate. 😆
I’ve had the LE for about 3 months now. I bought it as a commuter car for work. Yes, the Corolla has its shortcomings, but when you are looking for safety features, tech features, fuel economy, and reliability concerns, you don’t have to look any further. Even if the Korean brands cost less and have some perks, they don’t come as COMPLETE as this model at the lower price points. Additionally, the “safety-tech” features operate extremely well, much like a car costing dramatically more. The reasons to choose this model are feature content at a low price point, and expected low maintenance and reliability.
Your review is top notch. You will become really big some day. I love how you show things that people only notice when you live with the car.
Thank you very much! I appreciate that! 😁👍
I bought exactly this car with the same color and I love it 🥶🔥 nice , sporty and drive very good
it's really impressive for a cheap economy car i test drove it and i was blown away
I bought a Certified 2020 SE 6 spd MT a couple of months ago. I love this car...it is so fun to drive! Buying used, I got this sort of funky blue/purple color...not my favorite, but at sundown looks pretty good. I think that the area in front of shifter, under the dash is pretty roomy. I love it because I can put my pistol there and it is hidden from sight. Also room for other things. I don't find this Corolla any noisier than any other of my vehicles. The 2.0 Liter is peppy.
Another great review! Hats off to Toyota on the new Corolla sedan. Design is eye catching without being gimmicky and a nice improvement in the drive train for the top trims.
Thanks Stacy! Definitely...they did s good job! 😁👍
I really like this redesign. If I were in the market for a compact Sedan, I would probably go for this spec. Very polarizing. I think I'd pass on the remote start. I'm pretty sure the process of using that every time would do nothing but piss me off very quickly. As for as the storage, I can agree about needing a little more storage under the dash and I can see where bigger guys can feel somewhat claustrophobic with that dash sticking out. I'm also with you, Nolan on not believing Toyota for leaving at RCA, DTL, and an Auto dimming rear view mirror. Despite those things though, it has enough appeal to make my shopping list. Great review as always, Sir!
I like it too! It’s a nice car and very well done for the most part. I nitpicked inside but still liked it. Thanks for the support! Got a Rav4 Hybrid review coming out by the time you read this 👍😉
Beautiful car. I've just bought one and its very fun to drive
Hey man I really enjoyed this review. I really like the redesign of this new Corolla. But man am I disappointed about how much this car is lacking in features compared to the competition. Thanks for this review & your insight. I look forward to your next review.
Tran I completely understand with the features...I was really shocked to see that. Bummer. Thanks for tuning in as always!
I love the look of this new Corolla sedan. That XSE is hot and I dig the color. This new one is light years ahead of the old Corollas. Just give me a XSE with the stick. I agree with the remote start issue. My Subaru has remote start and does the same thing...I think Subaru and Toyota share quite a few things. It is annoying. I find the headrests in many cars are positioned wrong, which is why I love the headrest in my Subaru. All Subaru’s have the 4-way headset adjustment. Overall, I think the new Mazda 3 sedan might be a better overall buy because of the premium look and feel and classiness. Great review as usual Nolan!
Thank ya sir! Man those 4 way Subaru headrests would be very welcomed lol.
The Mazda3 really kicks butt in those departments and sets itself apart. Thanks as always! Btw....I’ve heard the possibility of a Subaru dealership coming to town for a little while now and there’s a big new building being built...Hope that’s it!
Prime Autotainment Great news!!!
Looks sharp but for the high price, it's really small.
texan903 technically the “commuter” car would just be the cheapest version you could get which if I’m not mistaken is around 18k which is reasonable.
@@thisisnotabasi2646 I imagine many will get the L or LE trims. The fact that you can get blind spot monitoring on the LE trim at that price range is an absolute steal.
Wow! What an improvement Thank you for demonstrating the S T E R E O! I'm tempted to pull the trigger on one of these bad bad boys, seriously. Way to go Toyota! I kind of went to dreamland half way through so not sure how she drives but I'm sure the power & handling is adequate. I"d like your reviews more if you could try condensing your reviews to 15 minutes or less, that way I won't miss out on anything(I have a short attention span), thanks as that would be greatly appreciated! btw, I just so happen to have visited a Toyota dealer this morning for a job interview & was very impressed with Avalon they had on the show room floor! Have you had a chance to review one yet, Nolan?
Thanks for watching Greg! It drives very well...main complaint is road noise with the driving portion. I’m torn on how long to make videos. I get requests for longer and shorter vids lol. Some will be long like this when i try to cover details on different trims...but for specific models I’m going to work in making videos shorter.
As for the Avalon...it’s fantastic. Feels premium and powerful. I got to drive a Touring last year if you wanna check it out: ua-cam.com/video/FpIABczr1wo/v-deo.html
@@PrimeAutotainment That road noise complaint seem s to be a common issue with Toyotas, I've even heard that the new Rav 4 has some road noise as well. I think that's where the German vehicles out-shine their competition, their built like vaults, to steal a phrase from another car reviewer. Anywho, I'll remember to take a dose of "No Doze" next time I have to sit through another 30 minute vid of yours so I don't miss critical info again!..Lol
I love the new Toyota Corolla that it's on my top 3 favorite Toyota list.
I like this loaded Corolla XSE, in this blue. I like it more than the Hatchback, even though it may have more cargo utility, but it has the styling, engineering, and the known reliability and dependability than many other brands. I wish it had Android Auto, which may be on the 2021 models, and supposedly on all the 2020 TRD models, which does not include a Corolla, just yet, but Toyota is looking into that, having added the Camry, Avalon and Rav4 to the TRD family.
I also saw, that the new upcoming Yaris is supposed to have Android Auto, but that may be an early release 2021 model, like the Corolla Sedan is actually a 2020 model, compared to the Hatchback, that came out as a 2019 Model.
Also, I believe the Corolla back up camera does not have trajectory on the guidelines, even on top trims.
Thanks for the video. Just bought one and it’s cool to have this.
I have a rattle behind me somewhere near the rear headrest. Otherside I worked 11 months for this and have 3k so far and havent second guessed my new car. 😍
19 xse hb 6MT midnightblack
Cute car and pretty blue color. Great review as usual Nolan 👍
Thanks Key!
Great review of the Corolla sedan Nolan. Nice looking car inside and out. Not sure I could live with the minor rattles. I suspect the Mazda 3 sedan might be a better option. It also looks classier to me. :-)
Thanks Andrew! Yeah the rattles were a bummer..so annoying lol. The Mazda3 is definitely something you can't go wrong with 😀
I am so glad that you mentioned that it has both direct and port injection as I was worried that I will have carbon built up later on for my car. Just a quick google and it actually does have both type of injection from Toyota website. Thanks bro.
For sure! I wish other brands did that too cuz that’s a big deal! 👍
The front end is encroaching on Kia Forte territory. I despise the previous generation Corolla; horrible drive and bland interior, but the new generation seems to be a good step forward. I drove the 2018 CE, LE, and IM and they were all not fun at all. My friend has an '06 CE and that's a better car than those newer ones for some reasons. Good review man!
It really is, I like the new Forte! So true about how they used to drive...that was my favorite thing about this new one.
Thank you very much!
Nice wheels. Give me a 6speed & sunroof & I'm sold.
No creeks or rattles. Absolutely love it. Only thing that pisses me off is the roof buttons don’t aluminate.
Maybe no "creeks". But PLENTY of CREAKS and rattles in mine. Could not wait to sell it. Horribly made car.
Shutting off the 'auto-start' engine when the door is opened is stupid...why? It will cause more wear and tear on battery and starter as the driver has to re-start the car again. By the way, this Corolla looks cool.
wouldn't that be a safety reason? imaging someone getting inside and stealing your car away!
They need the key fob to get in the vehicle...and to operate the vehicle. No different than when it’s turned off and locked.
@@PrimeAutotainment If that is the case then I am clueless why have this unusual feature/annoyance.
spartanshadow13 same with me. A couple other brands do this too but most don’t from what I’ve seen. Idk, it’s weird!
Are you sure you can't change that in the infotainment settings ...
I could be way off, but I predict that Toyota will come out with a Honda Civic SI competitor called the Corolla XSE-T, the T stands for turbo!!
That would be sweet!
I want the SE model so bad lol. After I graduate next summer I’m gonna go out and get one.
Nice,,,but they burned gas awful,,,I have one here in Canada
I have a 2019 XSE hatch in blizzard pearl white. I love it, although the same gripes you have are there for me as well. Despite that, I wanted a reliable commuter car which has comfortable seats and good MPG. I am around 7,000 miles into this car and I am still happy with my choice. ONLY thing that irks me is that the sedan and hatch have completely different options and some of the stuff I want is only on the sedan, and vice versa on the hatch. (For example mine has dual zone climate control which I love, but I wish you could get the sunroof on the hatch)
Nice car and color! Great point about the options and features..that’s so weird and a bummer. Glad to hear you’re happy though, enjoy it 😁👍
It’s nice to see toyota going back to their roots putting more into their performance and getting away from boring. The new guy who runs toyota now even said a statement to his people “No more boring cars” CNBC did a report called The rise of toyota
Part of the car not being boring is the driving dynamic and trust me when I say the CVT is not fun. I had a 2014 Corolla, it's gone now.
@@richrnndz2 While I agree with you about CVT's in general, this CVT is a different unit than you had in your 2014. It has a physical first gear for smooth takeoffs from a stop, and simulated shifts. It felt pretty good when I test drove a 2020 Hatchback, (no manual tester available) but I did end up getting a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch with the conventional 6 speed auto.
Toyota's problem has never been that they're "boring". It's that they're poorly made and ride/drive like cr@p. Make them softer and more comfortable and put more effort into interior build quality and that would improve Toyota vehicles 10-fold.
I love Toyota but I hate how they have their low beams as their DTRL
I feel the same way!
DTRL??
@@alrensha7479 day time running lights
Nice review. Great headlight design. I think the taillights are pretty meh. I think they will fix on the mid cycle refresh.
Thank ya sir! I’m with you!
No rattles for me but the road noise sucks. The low pro tires are the cause. Looks great but...
My 1 week old SE had a rattle in the seat back of the passenger seat. I moved it fore and aft a few times, and reclined and un-reclined the seat, and it went away. Other than that, all is well. Mine's the manual with the "sport tuned" suspension, I like the car very much after 500 miles. The noise is a little high for my liking, but I'm hoping a tire change down the road will improve that. Not a fan of the Avids.
$28,794k? In 'I7, I paid 17k for my preproduction Corolla SE out the door. Mine has the vertical day time running lights -looks cool. Everything else looks similar to this. The door handle (bar) inside the car is too far forward. Sound system is decent. In 2017 there was only a 1.8 L w/ CVT a total dog w/ no juice. The redeeming quality, it looks great when I detail it.
Toyota refreshed the Corolla for 2017. For 2020 is was completely redesigned on Toyota's new platform. It has the newer, better infotainment system Entunes 3.0. The 2017 had 2.0, but still no Android Auto
I don't get the whole android auto craze, I just use my phone. Why do I care about digital tech in my car when it's going to be super dated in 2 years?
Give me a bullet proof transmission, my every 3 year cycle of phones will provide the tech. I don't need automakers trying to be everything, keep the bloated tech down/features on base model so I can get it on the cheap. Aftermarket installs is where it is at
I would consider getting a dark blue loaded XSE over a Honda Civic Sport Sedan if it had Android Auto, or if Toyota can clarify it will be updated via software, like the 2018 Camry. Very nice. I just wish it had plain color cloth seat backs instead of the strip pattern design.
This is a great looking car, Great review, these new Toyota’s are amazing!!
Thanks Jordan! They definitely are. They’ve done a lot to build a good foundation for all of the new ones 👍
Road noise could be the shitty tires they put on the car. If they put some Michelin Primacy or something like that, i'm sure your ride would be a little quieter...but..who knows, I sat in one today. I think it looks amazing from the outside. I also sat in a Honda Civic Lx, and the Honda Civic was way more comfy and was layed out better in my opinion. I may set up a test drive for this.
I have Michelin on mine,,but burn gas awful
Started hearing the same rattle in the general area, it only happens when doing hwy speeds on the same type of roads you were mentioning. It’s going to the dealership tomorrow. Also noticed what sounds similar to the exhaust heat shield when starting off or coming to a stop.
Dang I’m sorry to hear that. I think I’ve seen others talk about that heat shield too. Hope you get some answers and solutions. Good luck!
what is the point to remotely start the engine and when you get in the engine turns off . Omega lul
Ath right that always confused me.. it would be useful if the car was keyless entry and you could just drive off
To me I thinks good for security. In case u remotely turn on the engine and someone jumps in lmao
Abey Ademak u. Right 😂
Abey Ademak the car is always locked and can’t be driven without key fob
Ath It is for security. Plus what does it matter having an additional 3 seconds to start it again? The car doesn’t get too hot or too cold immediately when it turns off.
They keep making the price go up on these cars..
Yet keep scratching their heads as to why people aren't buying like before. A car is encroaching fast on becoming a rich man's possession.
texan903 ...they should go back to making them simple with less Bs in them and keep prices down..
@@The-Homecook-0000 Most Americans expect increases in size of cars, more technology, more horsepower, which makes it difficult to return to simplicity. Cars are simply an extension to the fact many of have misplaced values.
@@texan903 ..I like cars with just basic...I want good gas miles and less electronics... simplicity is my thing with anything I buy..
I got a 17 Yaris hatchback for 9200 with 40K miles.
Base model doesn't have all the bells and whistles, TBH if I could have not gotten the safety features of lane/crash I would have for cheaper.
I just need decent MPG, bullet proof transmission, AC, power steering, good brakes, airbags, and bluetooth. I can install anything else that I want for cheaper than the dealership. IE cruise control/seat cushions/speakers.
If I wanted all the features I would have gotten the camry, why try to make something it's not suppose to be? I sure do miss my 1996 Corolla in teal.
Too bad the previous Corolla doesn't have remote start as it has the outdated Entunes 2.0 which Toyota isn't updating, unfortunately. I would like to get in my 2018 Corolla
Great review....
Thank you!
SHARP LOOKING CAR!!!!
Good! I have a January 2019 model so getting pretty old now. Need this.
I was being sarcastic by the way. At how quickly Toyota update their models 😆
Just to clarify. The J LED lights are only visible at night. They are not day time running lights.
Yes, good catch! My bad. I guess we could call those the night time running lights lol. I wish those were on all of the time though
I would prefer the automatic transmission. Dont trust the cvt that much.
Some CVT's are actually good, not all are bad.
The ones that are usually bad are the Jatco ones, but this one might have an aisin and they tend to be reliable
Although I am unsure if this one is a new one or an older model, but who knows.
Only the xse has a slightly smoked tail light and the nighttime illumination is different as well the SE tail lights are the same as every other Corolla. Yes there is cross traffic alerts when I back out of my parking space and a car is passing or a pedestrian the car alerts me. All my doors close nice and solid as expected with Toyota quality. You can turn off the electronic parking brake
I don't know why Toyota doesn't offer a heated steering wheel, wiper deicer and heated seats in the lower trims in the USA. These features are offered in Canada and Europe. Those are the blank buttons to the left of the steering wheel
The cover behind the rear view mirror can once In while comes loose and it sounds like plastic shaking !!!!
The noise was certainly partially due to having the moon roof ceiling being open on the roof road.
Why is this plain looking economy car worth 28k?
I don’t think it’s worth $28k either
Because idiot will pay for it. The same way a truck cost almost $70k and people are willing to pay for them.
It’s worth more than that. You’re ignorant
@@PrimeAutotainment 28 without tax?
Better to get Camry SE imo
The interior storage does not offer much from the way it looks.
It doesn't. The base trim doesn't even give you seatback storage
Unless I missed it, whats the color ?, I think its important to mention in every review
Always feel congested sitting in a corolla. They should make them a bit more roomier.
Would prefer a civic over this.
Civic has dropped the ball. I’m a 5’2 petite woman. This is a perfect size car for me I don’t want a huge car to drive.
Toyota treats the Corolla as an entry level car which is probably why it's missing allot of features it competitors have
You might not hate it but you'll still likely trade it for something better
I hope they change the design of the oil filter
I think the turn signals are LED not incandescent
This is my dream car me I want to get the le red color. It really has nice color I noticed it doesn’t have blindspot monitor does higher trim have it?
I bought that colour/trim yesterday but I get it Friday!
My LE model also has the rattling coming from the pillars, however I feel like it happens randomly. I wonder how this issue can be resolved besides slapping the pillar
Thanks for sharing. I’m not sure. I’ve heard of dealers pulling back trim pieces and filling space with insulation or foam...not sure what this car would need
I have the 2020 corolla SE, I also have a rattle/creaking noise from the B pillar. I think its the window seal on the outside because when I push on the window, it goes away.
That’s interesting and thanks for sharing that. Have you taken it to the dealer to see if they’d fix it under warranty? Otherwise enjoy your new Corolla!
@@PrimeAutotainment I took it in my first week of ownership. I thought the transmission was shifting rougher than usual. They said it was normal, and that I should wait till the first oil change for any warranty-related issues. (Which would be december) So I plan on getting it fixed then.

Thanks Ahmad! I like it too but was bummed that it’s missing some things compared to others...should still be a solid choice though
Who the hell would choose this over a Honda Civic or Honda Accord 😂
Ummmm, someone who'd like more options, not just a Honda, maybe? 🤔
Anyone who doesn’t want to run into a Honda CVT issue?!
Who the he'll would buy a Honda? They are so ugly .
I love your videos but I feel your nit picking a bit I am sorry but in the Corolla hatch video you wernt nit picking as much if any
Thank you for the feedback. You’re right I did not pick on more stuff here...and Idk why I was different with this one. I still liked the Corolla overall. I think my expectations were higher for available features but still it’s a nice car! Thanks for watching and the feedback!
@@PrimeAutotainment you weren't nit picking at all. You were absolutely right. For almost 30,000 dollars theres no heated rear seats? Theres no ambient lighting? Theres no storage area? Theres no amenities in the backseats? On the fully loaded trim. You were totally correct in your review. You could buy a Honda accord for the price of one of these. Or a loaded Jetta with heated rear seats and ambient lighting and more room. Small touches are important. But toyotas are reliable 🤷♂️

Hi i have a xse 2020 its a great car but to noise in bad road.
Is the engine buzzy at certain RPM'S like the previous gen? That really irritated me about my 14.
It can be. It’s noticeable for sure but that didn’t get my attention too much. Once up to speed it seemed like the road noise drowned it out

That cvt sound is all you need to hear still boring as hell especially for 28k I rather get an ilx premium with a 7speed dual clutch.👍🏻
What is corolla doing? They already have 301 Hps Camry 19’ destroying all competition with corolla. Get this outta here toyota. Stick to Prius for safe driving.
I bought le 2020
What do you mean not boring, it looks like every other boring car made in the last 15 years.
Lol looks are subjective...but it’s much improved over last generation in terms of its platform/driving dynamics
You should know the color/that’s a plus🙃
I have this car. The ride is absolutely horrible. The 18 inch wheels and low profile tires murder your spine on bumpy roads. I need a solution!
Sometimes the stock tires just aren’t the most comfortable or quiet. Getting new softer riding tires could help and definitely make sure they aren’t overinflated. A lot of times they come that way which makes it extra stiff
Will keep my 2008 Corolla. Will not buy another with a CVT.
@Steve Higgins my point is my 2008 has a conventional transmission with 168k miles. Routinely get 36-39 mpg. Don't see improvement car companies your except saving MFG $$$. Consumer gets interior product, in my opinion.
Nice looking shape, but not in my needs (truck/suv).
