Look at the comparative shacks surrounding. Boy did their resale value go up.
What an amazing forming and pouring job that roof structure is.

Difficult for me to consider as home of the year.. The swimming pool especially for the kids it seem really risky... because of those glass partition if by any chance they jump over it whenever from the top I just can't think of it... not Everytime one can't be conscious about that...Peace

Diagonals are cool. I’m stealing that for sure (for a simpler reclaimed timber ceiling, my concrete skills arent that good yet)

There seem to be a lot of negative comments here. Not sure why. Compared with the other (boring / pedestrian) buildings on the street, this is imaginative.

I've seen better. You should check out the house in Da Nang, Vietnam, designed by famous architectures Vo Trong Nghia. The house is abundant with natural air, plants and sunlight, with a home garden on the roof, and a pool on the ground floor.
The core design of the house is self circulation where rain water is collected to supply the swimming pool, the pond, as well as to grow plants which in turn cools down the house. The environment of the house is designed in such a way so as to enable the nurture of a closer and harmonious family tie.
This building can borrow more from that home.

@Trelise' Avery-Moore no worries, I don't understand Vietnamese either and had a bad impression on south east Asian architecture until I saw this video. It changed my perception and I hope that one day I'll build my family home like this.

The best house of the year! I think different people have different point of view. The best must address to all points of views or most of them.
The ideal house should not be depanding on exterior environmental. A house on a hill shall have some inherited advantages as compare to a house built on street with another house in front.
It is really difficult to judge which is best. Swimming pool of this house is horrible.

They keep telling me concrete is the worst building material for the environment 🧐

    • @MatSmithLondon
      @MatSmithLondon 4 роки тому +1

Badly made concrete is terrible for the environment, because it degrades and gets ripped down after 50 years. Take the domed concrete Pantheon in Rome, reinforced with volcanic ash, still standing. If we built buildings to last, concrete would be extremely good for the environment. Or rather, the net good for the environment compared with other building materials is great. Sadly people don’t understand how to build concrete well, and steel reinforcement often not given enough cover from the elements causes long term degradation. Like all things: it’s complex.

What stands out mostly about this house is the architect's egol I couldn't tell how "good" the design is since so little was shown. The glass adjacent to the pool with kids jumping off a precipice looks destined for future problems of a physical nature.

I am not degrade you guys but I really want an architect who built a house in a small street, and not only build he do something like magic or may b technically build a house because of which every room is blessed with sunlight every morning and will b bright and energetic because we all know how much sunlight is important for us , and not only for us it's very important for house also if I was not wrong.they will build house on the middle of the street where three or fourth floor buildings sarrounds of it. And then they will build the house with the wide windows where sunlight reflect because in small streets the sunlighs never ever come and it's a very big issue for those poor people who lives in this kind of streets. that they are and there child's never blessed with the morning sunlighs because it's very important for children, mother's ,elders everyone if I am not wrong. if some one will really do this task then I will said him proudly that he is the number one architect of the year. And of the world. Because if you have a wide space then it's a very easy task to do. But if you have small area or not only small there are so many building around it then it will be the tuffest task to do.

Another miserable concrete monstrosity. Only interesting thing is the webbed ceiling.

  •  4 роки тому

Attractive, but the amount of concrete in the roof is insane overkill. My own home's roof has no beams or trusses, except under the roof peak, because it is made of 11 1/4" thick SIP panels. So, my roof is dense styrofoam plus 7/16" thick OSB laminated on each side of the panels. It's lasted 20 years so far in earthquake country. Premiersips.com

WAAAY too much concrete. I’ve never understood this desire to make houses out of concrete. First of all, it’s horrible for the environment, but it also is such a cold, unfriendly look. Only architects like this, I would think, because too often they’re trying to create art instead of a home.
