worst part is - I had the camera switched off when Jim and I were doing the covering! Still the end cap was missing so I guess I can show you how then! I have not got it yet but I think it is worse!
Once again Mike, so many skills in one job, what a wealth of knowledge you poses, and you are so willing to share and pass on to others. It is so nice to see and hear you work, No wunder that your channel is so popular. Keep up the good work Mike. Best wishes from Yorkshire Rob.
@@BritannicaRestorations Yes I can understand that Mike, Im the same. Can you remember the closed shop and debarkation lines. Those blokes must be turning in their grave right now with you showing all these skills and hidden secrets to non time served people. Carry on the good work Mike, and let em turn. Rob.
I tell you Rob - that was the reason I left ICI! The unions were in control - you could not do anything except swing spanners! All we did was change pumps and valves - no fixing things And as you know - overmanning! To go and change a pump, we needed and Electrician, Electricians mate and apprentice to isolate the motor, then a fitter, fitters mate and me to undo the bolts But we were not allowed to lift the pump - oh no - it was a rigger and riggers mate's job 8 people to do a job for 1 man! Went I got my cards I was out of there the next day and never looked back! I never joined a union as they were so backwards 5 years later ICI was sold off - job for life the told me on day 1
G'Day Mike. I still have to finish off my dash for the 130. I have all the bits just not got to it yet so now of course you're making me feel guilty :D
My mate Jason got that stuff up his nose after trying to clear the nozzle with a screwdriver. The screw driver ended up embedded in the ceiling and the foam kept expanding up his nose. I was worried that I was never going to stop laughing!
I was there when he took the top off - there was nothing coming out of the tube so he thought he would pry off the top the can to get the foam out - in 2 seconds flat! I know why it is called expanding foam Luckily we had some Acetone on hand to get it off!
@@BritannicaRestorations I've been reading about all types of vinyl, obviously 4 way stretch. I'd love a simple recommendation. Seems to be an important aspect of this. No ones sees all the prep work.
I also saw a very interesting post where a Porsche owner used 5 minute epoxy to glue down vinyl for a newish looking dash. Although he glued over existing one not to foam.
I was using some of that stuff the other week I think it had gone off as I have had it for a long ting had to drill out the nozzel to get it to work ended up getting it all over my hands took me days to get my hands clean no solvent would seem to move the bloody stuff moto of this story after use if you are not going to use it soon chuck it.
Gorrila glue applied on a wetted area foams up in the same way but with a harder skin, adding more water seems to increase bubbles and less water less smaller bubbles
Gotta say mr mike .. never did done see 4x4 ways vineeeail befores groovey stuff ...im thinkin moore along the lines of some crocodile skin .. burt there very uncooperative...😁pip pips and carryon pilgrim 😎😁
A very expansive demonstration.
I'm here all week.

Thanks Rob - I would much prefer to do these all day than swing spanners!

PU foam and glue cure in presence of moisture so if you dampen the old foam at edge it will adhere to it
Acetone gets it off. I don't fancy washing my hair with acetone though.
not at our age..
Well, if it all goes wrong you can always make birthday cakes!!
What type of foam was used if I wish to try and duplicate your efforts, also recommended vinyl.
I just used spray foam used for insulation - they vinyl is called 4 way stretch
@@BritannicaRestorations Do you recommend a make and model?
Hard to say - depends where you are - I know the vinyl here is expensive - C$80/meter last time I got some, but cheaper than a new dash

What is the foam? It is the same as for windows in a house?
It is denser than spray foam
@@BritannicaRestorations do you have a link?

yeap = that is what happened to Gerry - got it in his hair - lucky it was not his eyes!
Where did you get the vinyl mike? And how thick is it ?
It is quite thin - you get it from an upholstery shop - they use it here for Skidoo seats as it is super flexible in the cold - - £35 a meter here!
what thickness was the vinyl?
This is only one thickness as far as I know
Thanks Mike 🤔 mmm smooth has a baby botom 🤔👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
