I love how they somehow make their relationship seem kind of endearing and frank beating the shit out of rod isnt disturbing because rod basically asks for it. It's pretty well written in that sense.
You just know Ian McShane must've had a frickin BLAST playing this role in this awesome comedy -he typically plays in fairly serious dramas, from what I've seen; I imagine, therefore, it must have been a kick in the pants getting to be silly as all hell in this and play opposite Andy Sandberg's ridiculous exaggerated comedy.
One reason I always thought Frank didn't acknowledge Rod as a man was that he comes in padded up. Meanwhile, Frank is just there in his athletic clothes. Rod isn't willing to get bruised in a one-on-one fight, i.e. not on equal terms.
When Rod says, "You know I have a hormone disorder" it just reminds me of Jake and Amy. Jake (also played by Andy Samberg) tells Amy that be physically can't grow a moustache is just kind of a nice detail he carries into the show and the movies.
“All I want to do is earn your respect. How can I do that if you won’t fight me?” “We’ll I guess you should have thought of that before you sucked at being a man!”
4 best scenes in the film in no particular order. The Fall after dancing out the rage. Rico whooping ass after whiskey. The end jump scene when it cuts to I think bill hader doing the throat cut. The opening stunt
The way he looked at Him with the glass of water and grunt is so funny it’s like he couldn’t just say hi or something . That would be so mad if my stepdad would do that
Imagine having this type of relationship with your dad!! 😂😂😂 and beating each other’s asses was y’all’s way of bonding!! Lol and people asking your mom “ OMG WHY ARE THEY FIGHTING?! SHOULD WE STOP THEM?!” and mom all calmly while sipping her tea “ohh no that’s how the bond, they’ll be fine” 😂😂😂
It’s how a boy transforms into a man if he can beat his old man (not just in a fight but in anything) then he’s officially a man plus what’s male bonding without a little competitiveness? 😉
Jokes aside, this movie is about a guy who loves his stepdad and family. He’d literally jump 15 buses to save Frank’s life. Frank wasn’t just his old curmudgeonly step dad, but his mom’s husband and Kevin’s dad. That’s important.
Rod ends up on his hands, and knees. Frank stands over, and behind Rod: "Rod!...I do have a knife! It come to me now!" Frank notices Rod while bloody, and dazed, staring straight ahead. Frank looks ahead as well, and notices his wife, Rod's mother, standing at the bottom of the stairs, looking on in horror. Frank points knife at Rod's mother, and yells "WELCOME TO FUCKIN STEP-FATHERHOOD!! CAN BE COMBATIVE!". Only real OG's will get this.
"A young man attempts to raise money to save his dying father in order to beat him to death." Best story ever!
And earn his respect
samuraishinobi It is sooo funny hahaha!
at least in the end he only makes him shit himself
Step dad.
It was literally all they were talking about on AM radio for years.
I never got the vibe that Frank dislikes Rod. He just enjoys winding him up. And I think that’s endearing
Oh yeah I think they loved each other deeply, that’s clearly just their dynamic
Who wouldn't want a guy like Frank as a dad or relative
He always gave great advice mid-ass beating.
Frank wanted nothing but the best for Rod, he just wanted Rod to earn his respect, so that he could respect Rod.
Seriously one of the most underrated movies of all time.
💯
It is one of the greatest pieces of storytelling ever created. I can’t say enough about the layers of this film.
I nearly died laughing the first time I watched this film
@@kevinb8212 The cool beans section itself was enough for a noble prize.
Never sneak up on a man whos been in a chemical fire!
Taylor Lemon i
Taylor Lemon p
I love the way he delivers that line
Best line in the film
Lol a chemical fire , i just wonder how he got in a chemical fire 🔥
My adoptive dad and I love this movie. We have a similar dynamic, though it is much less physical but just as sarcastic.
Connor Romo is it though?
You and your dad dont get into duels with Rhodesian fighting sticks? Seems like a dull relationship to me
Dull relationship, no fighting with Rhodesian fighting sticks ha! What a dull “relationship”
Sadly, ma outlawed dueling 😅
Is it though?
In his own way, Frank raised Rod correctly.
He probably saw that Rod was only motivated by spite.
I hope to have a step son like Rod some day.
I love how they somehow make their relationship seem kind of endearing and frank beating the shit out of rod isnt disturbing because rod basically asks for it. It's pretty well written in that sense.
It's not "disturbing" because its a comedy movie genius
Yeah Frank completely loves him but you know he’s not gonna say that 😂
@@mrbean44100never heard of dark comedy retard?
"play the victim you will be the victim" classic quote from frank😂
Rod replies with "ultimate punch!" Then proceeds to kick him
Never underestimate a man who’s fallen off a mountain and stood up unscathed.
It's hilarious how Rod can't see that Frank actually does care about him
❤
McShane kills every role he’s in. The dude is just up there with the best imo.
Ahh Rhodesian of course.
I was waiting for someone else to find that part funny...i love how humble he is!
Its ..just so random...
It also was a super racist country
@@williamcondon7729 it was racist because it was the 70's 😂 Rhodesia now would probably be infinitely better. Just like the US is
@@williamcondon7729 and look at Zimbabwe now, one of the biggest shit holes in Africa
"What the hell, is that a throwing star?"
"Uh huh! :D" Lmao

"Ultimate Punch!"
Best line: "old man, (pounding his chest for strength) young heart!"
One reason I always thought Frank didn't acknowledge Rod as a man was that he comes in padded up. Meanwhile, Frank is just there in his athletic clothes. Rod isn't willing to get bruised in a one-on-one fight, i.e. not on equal terms.
3:43 My stepdad never made an acrylic painting of me, Frank really did love Rodney.
Lonely Island needs to make a John Wick spoof and have Ian McShane reprise his role in it LOL
Most underrated comedy of all time!! What a gem
This movie doesn't get enough credit as one of the best comedies ever!
When Rod says, "You know I have a hormone disorder" it just reminds me of Jake and Amy. Jake (also played by Andy Samberg) tells Amy that be physically can't grow a moustache is just kind of a nice detail he carries into the show and the movies.
8:10 it took me till today I realised he lands the "ultimate punch" 😂😂😂
Probably helped that he didn’t announce it this time lmao
Is there a move that makes a grown adult man shit his pants? 😅
"Who are you talking to??" Gets me everytime
I can never recite that line cuz I always crack up as soon as I start. How Ian McShane landed that is beyond me.
Yeah; it's crazy that they ended a sentence in a preposition!
One of the greatest movies ever made
Easily.
Ian McShane was clearly having a lot of fun here.
Rod: “But I still need to kick your ass. How can I do that if you’re dead?”
Frank: “Well I guess I’ll die still champion.”
😂🤣
Rico’s commentary on the last fight with rod and Frank is amazing 😂😂
Lol so this is how John wick is so deadly he trained in the basement with frank the continental manager
“Everyone is going to hear it on the AM radio”
Lmfao haven’t heard anything on that in forever and the dude carries throwing stars haha nice
FRANK! IM GONNA GET YOU BETTER YOU OLD SACK OF SHIT!
My favourite line
ServantoftheKing you couldn't beat a drum
you couldn't beat a drum
That tackle through the wall and onto the backyard always cracks me up.
'He rocked him with a brick'
Great delivery. Love this whole movie
"you couldn't beat a drum" lol
Ever since I saw Deadwood I just see Al Swearengen in every one of Ian Mcshane’s roles.
He mastered the Ultimate Punch!
(Shits himself) "Ya gotta be kidding me." lmao
Rod: *YEEEEEAH!!!*
Very underrated Tai Chi move

Doin God's work.
you know i have a hormone dissorder oooooooooooh
Ian McShane face after throwing the throwing star 😂
For every grown man who grew up hating his stepdad, this is the greatest movie ever made.
I'd rather die then live in a world where i can't kick your ass
“All I want to do is earn your respect. How can I do that if you won’t fight me?”
“We’ll I guess you should have thought of that before you sucked at being a man!”
“(Growling) Oh my god, I hate you so much I just smash your face in…!”
"You gotta be kidding me."💩👖 Lol
Ian McShane saved this movie.

"Play the victim and you will be the victim" solid advice
13% of the population needs to hear that
0:40-0:42. The first time I saw this I thought Frank said something else. 😆

You know I have a hormone disorder!!😂
Haha, now I'm picturing Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon in these roles / with this dynamic. That'd be like the comedy version of American Gods ^o^!
I wish they made a sequel to this movie
No sequel is a better alternative to a shitty one.
'Ancestors protect me...'
By far the best movie soundtrack
