We need to stop overhyping the players and calling them the golden generation. No player should be a locked in starter unless they are playing consistently, and are in form. We should not be allowing players to be starters based on their "potential", or because of what they have done in the past. Players like Turner, Adams, Sargent, Reyna, etc should not have priority over players who are playing regurly for their teams.
They're not. They're mid compared to the actual golden generation of players on other teams, or even every single past generation of US stars. They're just plain average on their clubs, and arguably worse for the US. We have supportive role players mostly and 2 or 3 legit stars that are definitely beneath world class. Same goes for our real access to capital and the limits of creating a massive 💩 storm if we greatly exceed the pay of the women's coach; even though the pay equity suit was only about players. It's a bad look they can't afford on the eve of the World Cup.
I can understand the players concerns about Marsch (tactically inflexible, no plan B, etc), but like Adam said, that was poor leadership from Crocker, I don't think he'll accept but ask Jurgen Klopp the question, worst he can say is no, if he does say no ask Matarazzo, Renard and Pochettino, I think realistically that tier of coach is attainable
@brando7266 Renard ticks a fair few boxes, experienced, knows how to win international tournaments (he won the AFCON with Zambia) he also knows how to motivate players
U.S. Soccer faces more issues than just the mediocrity of Gregg Berhalter. As a fan for over 30 years, I believe that the USMNT is being influenced by Don Garber and the MLS. Additionally, the consecutive poor decisions by Matt Betty Crocker have only made things worse. The frustrating part is the lack of media and pundit criticism of Gregg for his poor tactics, playing players out of position, and inability to change the game with tactics or substitutions. It's disappointing that pundits have not called out Gregg until now. The media is part of the problem in U.S. Soccer, and it's disheartening. My faith in U.S. Soccer, MLS, Don Garber, and the media has been shaken.
I get why the players rebelled against Jessee. He lost the Leeds locker room due to his borderline abusive training sessions. Adams and Aaronson were part of that misery.
I hadn’t considered the July 4th vacation angle for causing the delay, but sadly Adam is probably right. 😂 At least do a Zoom meeting from the lake house, or something. There are rumors Matt Crocker was in England to watch the Euros last week and had book a hasty flight back to Chicago. Don’t know how true those rumors are, given Eric Wynalda seems to be the source.
As Tony Meola said, we dont need a "big" coach. We need the right coach. Argentina and Spain both have their former youth coach, coaching their teams. This isn't an elite job, we're not getting an elite coach.
I don't want to see any mls or American coaches at this point. Like when we couldn't get a gold medal in gymnasiums we went to the outside. We don't need the other issues that happened, but you know what I mean. We need someone that will have enough clout to be influential to change the entire American soccer system, not just the national team.
pulisic has been benched by like 6 managers I dont blame him for being happy with a guy that plays him every match, same with weah, same with gio, same with adams and mckennie who came in out of shape and still started every match. Look at Tim Ream benched by his club can you blame him for liking a coach who plays him? Turner...is glue to the bench with his club...starts every match for greg of course he likes greg lol.
It's time to reboot the team. They need to invite like 50 guys into the next camp and have them all try out for a position on the team. I think the current players have gotten inflated egos from being hyped up, and also because they don't have to compete for their positions.
The USSF has to realize how important 2026 means to the United States and the federation. The entire eyes of the world will be on the United States, MLS, USL, and NWSL. Standing front and center is the USMNT, and the face of American soccer, the new head coach. They must get this appointment right. It has to be a big name, with WC experience. Someone the USSF can sell to advertisers that will get the fan base hype, but also make US Soccer and MLS as much money as they can. This is a massive turning point in US Soccer. The federation cannot afford a Dolo type guy with no international experience, who's growing into the position
We don't need a world-class coach. We need a coach who can make a system around the team and players will respect. USMNT will most likely get a coach in level two and many teams also have level two coaches.
Jesse Marsch would not be a good manager for us. He is too close to many players on the team. We need someone who isn't an American, without any ties to the USSF and to the players. Someone who will be unbiased when selecting players for the rosters, and who will hold the players accountable for their actions on the field.
It's Carlos Ancelotti or bust. Renard is a career loser. He's good in the chaos of the African Cup of Nations, where the best teams do n't win. He's a fraud. Cherundolo and Nancy will be going abroad a year from now if neither is hired. The advantage of Nancy is he can rescue a team and make them burst through brick walls. Steve Cherundolo is a savvy insider and a proven winner that also coached youth soccer like Nancy. Unlike Nancy, he played at the very highest levels and coached youth ball in Europe. Both have very high ceilings with Nancy's being unlimited because of his nationality. Low would be a great hire too, but he might be too weird. Wagner is a scrub who's stock is way down from his flash in the pan getting Huddersfield promoted. Imo keep screaming for Domenec Torrent until I'm blue in the face. We could do worse than Andi Herzog too.
Agree. Gregg owed his job to thirty years of him and his friends being intimately involved with the USMNT. The next coach can't be another GGG seeking the approval of clowns like Keller and Lalas. It has to be someone who wouldn't spend a second finding out what the US soccer media has to say, because the vast majority of it is utter nonsense. The USSF want someone who knows the system and won't rock the boat. Like Gregg. It's obvious we need to go the complete opposite direction.
Who will the USMNT hire?
Klopp or Nancy!

@MLSMoves I agree, im aware that they've reached out to Klopp and he's said no, next up they should ask Pochettino or other coaches on that level
