Hi Tekking, neuroscientist/psychologist here! The answer is (of course) a little more complicated. I'd say it's more possible to quantify pain since you have a lot of chemicals like anesthetics and numbing agents which can take away sensation of pain momentarily. However, what Kuma did to Luffy is far more than his pain going away as it seemed to remove all of his trauma and exhaustion. While we can numb pain, science has yet to find a way for the body to bypass the healing process altogether. Memories are not necessarily a singular electrical signal or chemical that can be quantified and isolated. There's a lot of memory types (short/long terms, conscious/unconscious, semantic/episodic, etc.) and while they are TECHNICALLY tangible electrical/chemical signals, they are so unique and hard to isolate that being able to draw specific memories like Pudding or Kuma can is far beyond our current capabilities (although some experiments like Pavlovian conditioning form new memories and responses on purpose.)
Hey, I'm a psychology Student from Germany and already had lecture about the memory and neuroscience too. I guess if you would want to Break it down Tekking is right. At the Moment we expect that memory is coded by a Network of activation in the brain and that is for Most multiple electrical signals at once. So If you had a Computer Network or Something Like it that rebuilds the Network of the brain as complex as it is, it might be possible to make memory "tangiable". I think the Problem ist more the Things that we dont know about yet and therefore cant understand and replicate😅
I think good way too looking at memories, it is looking how artificial neural networks works, where "memory" is not one place is more as proces taking is some part of network. So connections are memories, signals only "wake them up" I put in quot because conscious is even more abstract thing, because for use is one thing, but it can't be, we don't have CPU as computers which process all in one place, but brain is making up a lot of our experience so this is maybe part of it.

We know certain things happen when you form a memory and when you recall because of studies done. But there's a lot of things we don't know which is why diseases like Dementia and Alzheimer's are still a thing. Kinda crazy that this not only confirms that Bakkin was a member of the Rocks Pirates; but she's also affiliated with MADS. I now have a new theory; I think Queen might be Edward Weevil's father. The way I see it is that Bakkin/Buckin was the woman in the MADS cover page. Vegapunk cloned her and when MADS split up, he gave her to the WG that made her a cipher pol agent. As a cipher pol agent she got a devil fruit and her assignment was to infiltrate the underworld similar to how CP9 infiltrated galley la. Also her fruit might just be a Bat bat fruit instead of a mythical fruit. I don't think it's a vampire devil fruit to me it sounds more like a succubus especially given that Stussy was called the "Queen of the Pleasure District" that sounds more of a title fitting a succubus than a vampire. Not to mention the fact she put Kaku to sleep that sounds like something a succubus would do.
In a lot of myths Succubi and Incubi would feed on sleeping humans. They're often traditionally depicted as sitting on the chests of sleeping humans. It's completely in lore to put people to sleep. (IMO)
Not much difference between a succubus and female vampire besides a fear of sunlight honestly, but yeah given she walks around in sunlight it's probably not a straight up vampire devil fruit.
Theory: What if the original Stussy was once the doctor of the Rocks Pirates? After the crew fell at God Valley, she escaped but instead of forming her own crew like Big Mom, Kaido or Shiki, she quit the pirate game all together and went into the field of science. Thus teaming up with MADS and working with them by cloning herself.
One thing I realised from this chapter is that both father and daughter, Kuma and Bonney, have the ability to manifest typically intangible things. With Kuma its memories, pain etc. With Bonney its age into Jewels. Much like Gear 5 Luffy recently who may be able to manifest imagination.

I don't wanna be that guy, but does sanji really have a chance at beating lucci? It's an interesting matchup, but lucci has AcoC, so he might actually just one shot sanji. AcoC almost definitely negates sanji's germa durability.
@@charleswright8294 I mean, Sanji beat a super-cyborg Ancient Zoan user, at this point he can basically move faster than the eye can see, he’s pretty damn good with Observation and Armament, he fought and defeated strong Rokushiki users pre-timeskip, etc. I’m not saying he would definitely win, but I think it could be an interesting fight. Plus Lucci just had a fight with Gear Fifth Luffy in which he took some pretty good hits and he’s probably a little tired since using your Awakening is probably really taxing.

The way Kuma looked in this chapter was giving me major Senator Armstrong vibes 😂. Also, let’s keep in mind that Bonney’s fruit also has the ability to turn intangible things tangible. So her fruit could actually be related to the paw paw fruit somehow depending on how far back Vegapunk perfected fruit cloning.
Right now I'm inclined to believe that the mystery woman in the MADS flashback may have been the original Buckingham Stussy/Ms Bakkin. This would explain why there being a woman strongly resembling Stussy with the MADS despite her being their first clone, and would also explain how they got her DNA in the first place for the cloning experiment. Lastly, Miss Bakkin being the original Buckingham Stussy, and former MADS member, gives a possible origin for Weevil, perhaps Bakkin attempted to make a clone of Whitebeard and Weevil was an imperfect result. This would explain how Weevil has strength comparable to Whitebeard in his youth and would technically make him Whitebeard's "son" like Bakkin claims.
56:30 I think that there's more to this. The Vampire/Succubus (comment's suggestion) powers might be that very SMILE Caesar was holding in this chapter. Ms. Buckingham could be a MADS scientist and Weevil could be one of the clone experiments, Weevil might have some Queen DNA from the cloning experiment too because he has that "If I get skinny girls won't be able to not swoon at me" look, I can see Queen botching the experiment by mixing up his hair with Whitebeard's hair.

I'm starting to think that the Vegapunk with the apple on his head isn't the actual Stella body. The fact that Bonney pretending to be crying child worked on him makes me think he is the "Good" clone and Shaka is the true Vegapunk. If you look at the flashbacks Vegapunk seems to be far more serious than he is portrayed in the present. Plus Shaka is the one we saw communicating with Dragon initially. Shaka is supposed to be the embodiment of Good but he doesn't seem to behave that way and apple head Vegapunk seems to be very optimistic and good natured like you'd expect Shaka to be.
maybe after rocks crew was defeated whoever stussy is a clone of possibly ms. bakkin joined mads. they cloned her first and later when mads breaks up, ms. bakin uses the cloning knowledge she learned to make a clone of whitebeard aka weevil thats why she calls him whitebeards son, but she wasnt as good with the tech so weevil looks the way he does

Kuma having those ears be actually part of him reminds me of Mohji from Buggy's crew. he said it's part of his hair, and every time we see him his "ears" are a little different. I'm now very curious about that. Was Oda foreshadowing something that far back? Are Mohji and Kuma part of the same race? In the One Piece world, I'm wondering if Dr. Hogback replicated the "21 grams" experiment that happened in our world. When I saw the topic of memories come up, I was on a thread discussing the spoilers and brought up how scary a combination it could be if Pudding and Kuma teamed up. Saw someone bring up that when we first met Stussy, she's drinking the drained juice of a giraffe on Whole Cake. Technically, Hildon from Thriller Bark was the first vampire.
Tekking I hope you read this cause you seem to have forgotten that there's another member of Mads. One of the cover stories is of the original formation of the group with all its members, Vegapunk, Judge, Queen, and Caesar we all recognize easy enough, but there was another member there too. That member we don't see the face of, but people have basically already figured out that that last member was Stussy, and this chapter just confirms it as the easiest way to get her DNA for the cloning process is to get it from the person already within arms reach. Do also remember that clones of people wouldn't initially be considered human, they'd be considered as copies of humans. So since this clone is her own thinking, acting person, Vegapunk declared her a true and proper human being no matter what anyone else might think. In regards to the wings and such, you either forgot or didn't think of it, but she's clearly a succubus, also known as a dream demon that would put people to sleep or attack sleeping people to drain their life force, which one could call blood as a person's life force as it does keep them alive and all. Her title as Queen of the Pleasure District also makes more sense under this context since succubi would keep you asleep with dreams of pleasures that they'd convince you only they could provide you with.
Could Stussy be the mysterious person that Vegapunk called upon? The only part that wouldn't make sense is the fact that she responded to Vegapunk without Lucci or Kaku noticing, but everything else makes sense; She is on the island (obviously), she likely could have disabled the frontier dome given her connection to MADS and potentially the island's technology, and she is certainly reliable. It would also make sense that she would've waited for the order from Vegapunk for a while, given it was a call to protect Vegapunk and that this is the first time he has been at risk for a while to out knowledge.

Because Vegapunk has connections with Buckin, that means she might have gone to Vegapunk to get cloned in exchange for a (partial) Whitebeard clone. Not that Whitebeard wouldn't smash Stussy, but Whitebeard wouldn't leave a of his son alone, so if Stussy was pregnant, Whitebeard would have searched the 4 blues just to find them.
Hot take since after a quick skim I didn’t see anyone else mention it, but I think Kuma’s memories are meant for his NEW body, S Bear. Who might’ve not been programmed to implicitly follow orders, assuming being called a “problem child” means anything.
Neuroscience PhD here (Hi Tekking :3). As to the tangibility of memories and pain: If we go with the common definition of tangible = perceptible by touch, then no, we cannot "touch" either pain or memories. In terms of pain, it makes sense to think of the difference between the stimulus (e.g. a hammer falling on your toe) and the perception of pain (i.e. neuronal signaling). We can touch the stimulus, but not the perceived pain. Pain is a complex process, involving many neurons at the site of injury, in the spinal cord and all over the brain, which communicate both electrically and chemically to give rise to the perception of pain. You couldn't possibly touch all of them at the same time. And even if you did, you would change their signaling drastically, thus interfering with the pain perception. Also, there are conditions such as phantom limb pain, where patients experience pain with no actual stimulus, which further complicated things. As for memories, the situation is similar in that what we commonly think of as memories (e.g. Kuma's memories of Bonney) are still very poorly understood by research and likely orchestrated by large and incredibly complex neuronal networks rather than a few "Bonney" cells. There are only few cases of documented 1:1 correspondences in between a memory and a single cell, notably "place cells" in the hippocampus, which encode for a single spot in a 3D area. As you can imagine, an actual memory, comprised of people, situational factors, weather, mood etc. would be infinitely more complex to encode and thus not tangible. At least not according to current research standards.
Knowing OPs fetish for tragic backstories, won't be shocked if Bonney is also a clone. Maybe of Kuma's dead child or dead wife. The existence of S-Bear brings into play the idea of it absorbing Kuma's memories, but I still don't see how this plays together with Kuma choosing to become a Pasifista. Edit: I looked back at the chapters since bonney and vegapunk have met and he's never acknowledged that Kuma is her father. Oda has only shown him to have remorse towards her.
wouldn't be surprised. in fact, seeing as we get the narration of vegapunk directly before his confrontation with bonney, i wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a misdirect. sure, everyone's gonna assume he was talking about stussy when she's revealed to be a clone later, but he never actually states who he's talking about, so he could just as easily have referred to bonney herself in those notes.
If Miss Buckinham was involved in cloning stuff, this pretty much confirms to me that Weevle was probably an unsuccessful clone of White Beard, prly mixes with her DNA, so technically making him indeed Whitebeard and Buckingham's son, although not through regular means. Also, i am pretty sure that Stussy was cloned before vegapunk managed to create his one "imperfect" Zoan type and giving up on the project and if she somehow has a paramecia, before discovering how to clone devil fruit powers (indicated by stussy not having liquid pumped through tubes embedded in her body). So i am pretty convinced that the original miss Buckingham does not have a bat/vampire fruit abilities, it was just the clone that was fed one, as a member of CP.

Lillith can be connected to either. Her most direct connection I'm aware of is to lilitu, monsters similar to lamiae, demon like entities with tendencies to prey on pregnant women and children. Often in pop culture that I've seen Lillith is depicted more like a succubus, but also as the progenitor of vampires. Tldr lillith can fit either role, I definitely prefer stussy being a succubus though the sleep is a big part for me.
She is connected to both. Im inclined to think she is a vampire due to the bite in the neck. Had she been a succubus, she'd be putting something different into her mouth

I think oda constantly says you can't change the past, thriugh powers and most our protagonists backstories. I think to draw that much emphasis to it is either that there is going to be something that will change the past. Or perhaps it's just another philosophical thing that oda threw in there. The whole "keep moving forward never back" thing that's really common. But idk the kind of writer Oda is I'd not be surprised if the one piece gives the person who finds it the ability to undo a certain action by someone in the past and that butterflies into a new world where massive changes happened.

On a side note; I think when Ms Buckingham works with MADS as a donor for their human clone project, as a payment she also asked a clone of Whitebeard as a son to raised. Kind of what Jango Fett asked as payment in Star Wars. Maybe both of them did have a “thing” when both of them in Rocks Pirate but Whitebeard don’t want to go steady/marry/commit/have a child with her. So Weevil is kind of a “son” of Whitebeard as she told her son.

As far as I can tell, he can download to anything with the right connecting device (be that an antenna or some other method). But only he can add to it because he has the spare brain matter due to his DF. But with Kumas DF he could add other peoples thoughts and memories to it. To me this chapter confirmed the mystery person in mads was not stussy. Stussy is the clone of that person. I like the theory that stussy is a clone of weevils mom, I forget her name but it's very similar to the name given for who stussy is a clone of
Ms. Bakkin, plus Marco already hinted at it in Chapter 909 (Sepukku) when he was talking to Cat Viper about Whitebeard and her being on the same ship. Simply put, Weevil just got a LOT more interesting
I agree: the mystery woman in the previous cover is not Stussy. That was MADS at their very beginnings so I doubt they had already made such a successful experiment. She's either the original Miss Buckingham (Weevil's mom) or another person altogether (in which case, I bet on Sanji's mom Sora).

Pain is a form of perception that our brain creates based on various sensations such as nociception and thermal sensation. Nothing happening in the brain is completely true or real, it is simply the brain's automatic programming doing it's best to recreate reality. Memories definitely fall under this, which is why memories, no matter how distinct or emotionally charged, are naturally altered and changed overtime due to the brain not being able to completely recreate the memory. Memory is not stored in exact locations in the brain. There is a reason certain perceptions such as smell and hearing can trigger strong memory responses. That is because the brain's "memory" system actually stores memories as unique webs of neurons that happened to have been activated at the time of said memory. On recall, the brain simply fires a pattern of neurons to attempt to bring back the memory. This essentially means that while memories are real and programmable, they aren't actually tangible since they only exist as a brain code. Of course, that brain code is tangible so you can interpret memories that way, but it's so unique that even leading scientists cannot simply trigger memories. As for the equations on the blackboard that VP was using, it definitely doesn't look like anything practical for neuroscience, but it could definitely just be something else he is working on. Neuroscience math mostly boils down to basic electrical and chemical physics functions and statistics. In short, memories and pain are represented in the brain as perceptions, but are not real themselves and are not individually stored so they would classify as intangible things, but the physiological activation of those pathways are definitely tangible. Kuma's fruit bringing out things like pain and memories would mean that your soul is directly connected to your brain and stores these perceptions itself. This implies that not only can some devil fruits manipulate souls directly, it likely means that lineage factor, souls, and devil fruits all fall under this outside force of "soul" in One Piece. This carries on into Will and Haki and everything, so basically we are confirming One Piece's "Theory of Everything" with these chapters. Haki, souls, Will, and Devil Fruits all use the same power, just simply different manifestations of it. Hope this was a somewhat interesting read. Love the videos Tekking! For the math equations as best as I can tell The first two in the dark background are gibberish-if you look close it looks like he just punched a bunch of special keys (ie. £, €, ect) The ones on the next panel are legible-I’m not 100% on what eq he’s using (if it’s an existing one) but seems he’s calculating the position of something in 3d space (î, j, k) are standard notation of for that and he has dPi/dt (could be dPi/Vt but that’s not proper notation) so seems he’s tracking some variable over change in time I might be wrong on this one but it also looks like he has the entropy eq on there as well as phase period (this one’s cut off so can’t confirm) In addition there’s a drawing of an ac power supply going into an inductor and a capacitor And finally he labeled his axis (tho where it’s placed next to the electronics doesn’t make sense) Feel free to correct or add some I probably missed some stuff

I think Big Mom and Judge didn't recognize stussy becuz miss buckinham had a minor role in the rocks pirates and wasnt in the forefront of the crew and and was in MADS briefly so at best they think shes the orginals stussys daughter, only du feld was picking up on the fact that she seemed too mature for her age and yup i agree 100%she got the succubus fruit

There are two things I noticed in this chapter that good be of relevance: 1. For all intents and purposes when Bonney de-aged Vegapunk she pushed out his years from his body. I don't know if this is going to have significance later on or if it's just something cool to make her similar to Kuma. 2. While the journal said, "the girl is unmistakenly human!" Stussy's introduction read, first successful clone. No mention of human. So maybe her vampire abilities are just that, she is a vampire. And here I get into speculation: what if Bonney was the first successful human clone, it would explain why Vegapunk cares so much about her and why he and Kuma had a close relationship. And could also have something to do with point 1.
I would assume since she is a clone (probably made by vegapunk) that she isn’t but then again her original was a member of the Rocks crew and history is known to repeat so I honestly can’t say
The reason why the clothing wasn't affected was because she used her ability on others and not on herself. As you can see, if she uses her ability on herself, the clothing size actually changes, but if she affects others it doesn't. It was always like this. Someone with the fire fruit would burn the clothing of others, but wouldn't harm his own. This goes for all devil fruits
I'd have to go back through more scenes with Bonney but I know during Saboady arc her clothes did not change when she changed her age, which is why her clothes are so small on her as an adult.

Neuroscience major in college here, memories are an entire system in the brain, mainly electrical signals of interactions with other neurons. Interestingly enough, they use all parts of the body since the process starts from sensory neurons (anything that you sense with your 5 senses), and captures a quick snipet of it. That snipet is then transferred to the brain along the spine, and is stored as "short term memory". Memory is janky usually because of the retrival and storage of it, where it degrades. The more a memory is retrieved the more likely it is to be modified. Essentially yes, memory is indeed, just chemical signals.
Bonney's fruit is like a better or altered version of Shinobu's. They both age things but Shinobu's is permanent and only gets older while Bonney's works both ways and is temporary.
I wouldn't be too hasty calling Stussy a vampire, she could be a succubus as well. Very similar wings to a vampire, also associated with making people sleep, and fits the whole night queen thing better.
Hear me out! What if an owner of the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi transfered one soul of someone or himself into Blackbeard. Which is why he can have two devil fruits. Hi Tekking, neuroscientist/psychologist here! The answer is (of course) a little more complicated. I'd say it's more possible to quantify pain since you have a lot of chemicals like anesthetics and numbing agents which can take away sensation of pain momentarily. However, what Kuma did to Luffy is far more than his pain going away as it seemed to remove all of his trauma and exhaustion. While we can numb pain, science has yet to find a way for the body to bypass the healing process altogether. Memories are not necessarily a singular electrical signal or chemical that can be quantified and isolated. There's a lot of memory types (short/long terms, conscious/unconscious, semantic/episodic, etc.) and while they are TECHNICALLY tangible electrical/chemical signals, they are so unique and hard to isolate that being able to draw specific memories like Pudding or Kuma can is far beyond our current capabilities (although some experiments like Pavlovian conditioning form new memories and responses on purpose.)

Hey, I'm a psychology Student from Germany and already had lecture about the memory and neuroscience too. I guess if you would want to Break it down Tekking is right. At the Moment we expect that memory is coded by a Network of activation in the brain and that is for Most multiple electrical signals at once. So If you had a Computer Network or Something Like it that rebuilds the Network of the brain as complex as it is, it might be possible to make memory "tangiable".

I think good way too looking at memories, it is looking how artificial neural networks works, where "memory" is not one place is more as proces taking is some part of network. But there's a lot of things we don't know which is why diseases like Dementia and Alzheimer's are still a thing. The way I see it is that Bakkin/Buckin was the woman in the MADS cover page. Vegapunk cloned her and when MADS split up, he gave her to the WG that made her a cipher pol agent. As a cipher pol agent she got a devil fruit and her assignment was to infiltrate the underworld similar to how CP9 infiltrated galley la. Also her fruit might just be a Bat bat fruit instead of a mythical fruit.

Kuma can hit memories and pain from bodies, and his daughter can hit years out of bodies. Like daughter and father.
One thing I realised from this chapter is that both father and daughter, Kuma and Bonney, have the ability to manifest typically intangible things. With Kuma its memories, pain etc. With Bonney its age into Jewels. Much like Gear 5 Luffy recently who may be able to manifest imagination.

Right now I'm inclined to believe that the mystery woman in the MADS flashback may have been the original Buckingham Stussy/Ms Bakkin. This would explain why there being a woman strongly resembling Stussy with the MADS despite her being their first clone, and would also explain how they got her DNA in the first place for the cloning experiment. Lastly, Miss Bakkin being the original Buckingham Stussy, and former MADS member, gives a possible origin for Weevil, perhaps Bakkin attempted to make a clone of Whitebeard and Weevil was an imperfect result. This would explain how Weevil has strength comparable to Whitebeard in his youth and would technically make him Whitebeard's "son" like Bakkin claims.

I'm starting to think that the Vegapunk with the apple on his head isn't the actual Stella body. The fact that Bonney pretending to be crying child worked on him makes me think he is the "Good" clone and Shaka is the true Vegapunk. If you look at the flashbacks Vegapunk seems to be far more serious than he is portrayed in the present. Plus Shaka is the one we saw communicating with Dragon initially. Shaka is supposed to be the embodiment of Good but he doesn't seem to behave that way and apple head Vegapunk seems to be very optimistic and good natured like you'd expect Shaka to be.

Tekking I hope you read this cause you seem to have forgotten that there's another member of Mads. One of the cover stories is of the original formation of the group with all its members, Vegapunk, Judge, Queen, and Caesar we all recognize easy enough, but there was another member there too. That member we don't see the face of, but people have basically already figured out that that last member was Stussy, and this chapter just confirms it as the easiest way to get her DNA for the cloning process is to get it from the person already within arms reach. Do also remember that clones of people wouldn't initially be considered human, they'd be considered as copies of humans. So since this clone is her own thinking, acting person, Vegapunk declared her a true and proper human being no matter what anyone else might think. In regards to the wings and such, you either forgot or didn't think of it, but she's clearly a succubus, also known as a dream demon that would put people to sleep or attack sleeping people to drain their life force, which one could call blood as a person's life force as it does keep them alive and all. Her title as Queen of the Pleasure District also makes more sense under this context since succubi would keep you asleep with dreams of pleasures that they'd convince you only they could provide you with.
Could Stussy be the mysterious person that Vegapunk called upon? The only part that wouldn't make sense is the fact that she responded to Vegapunk without Lucci or Kaku noticing, but everything else makes sense; She is on the island (obviously), she likely could have disabled the frontier dome given her connection to MADS and potentially the island's technology, and she is certainly reliable. It would also make sense that she would've waited for the order from Vegapunk for a while, given it was a call to protect Vegapunk and that this is the first time he has been at risk for a while to out knowledge.
She wasn’t hiding on the island as a safe haven, though.

Neuroscience PhD here (Hi Tekking :3). As to the tangibility of memories and pain: If we go with the common definition of tangible = perceptible by touch, then no, we cannot "touch" either pain or memories. In terms of pain, it makes sense to think of the difference between the stimulus (e.g. a hammer falling on your toe) and the perception of pain (i.e. neuronal signaling). We can touch the stimulus, but not the perceived pain. Pain is a complex process, involving many neurons at the site of injury, in the spinal cord and all over the brain, which communicate both electrically and chemically to give rise to the perception of pain. You couldn't possibly touch all of them at the same time. And even if you did, you would change their signaling drastically, thus interfering with the pain perception. Also, there are conditions such as phantom limb pain, where patients experience pain with no actual stimulus, which further complicated things. As for memories, the situation is similar in that what we commonly think of as memories (e.g. Kuma's memories of Bonney) are still very poorly understood by research and likely orchestrated by large and incredibly complex neuronal networks rather than a few "Bonney" cells. There are only few cases of documented 1:1 correspondences in between a memory and a single cell, notably "place cells" in the hippocampus, which encode for a single spot in a 3D area. As you can imagine, an actual memory, comprised of people, situational factors, weather, mood etc. would be infinitely more complex to encode and thus not tangible. At least not according to current research standards.

wouldn't be surprised. in fact, seeing as we get the narration of vegapunk directly before his confrontation with bonney, i wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a misdirect. sure, everyone's gonna assume he was talking about stussy when she's revealed to be a clone later, but he never actually states who he's talking about, so he could just as easily have referred to bonney herself in those notes.

I think oda constantly says you can't change the past, thriugh powers and most our protagonists backstories. I think to draw that much emphasis to it is either that there is going to be something that will change the past. Or perhaps it's just another philosophical thing that oda threw in there. The whole "keep moving forward never back" thing that's really common.
But idk the kind of writer Oda is I'd not be surprised if the one piece gives the person who finds it the ability to undo a certain action by someone in the past and that butterflies into a new world where massive changes happened.

As someone with a BS in Neuroscience and applying to Neurobiology graduate programs, I'll do my best to answer your questions despite lack of sleep. Pain is a form of perception that our brain creates based on various sensations such as nociception and thermal sensation.
Nothing happening in the brain is completely true or real, it is simply the brain's automatic programming doing it's best to recreate reality. Memories definitely fall under this, which is why memories, no matter how distinct or emotionally charged, are naturally altered and changed overtime due to the brain not being able to completely recreate the memory.
Memory is not stored in exact locations in the brain. There is a reason certain perceptions such as smell and hearing can trigger strong memory responses. That is because the brain's "memory" system actually stores memories as unique webs of neurons that happened to have been activated at the time of said memory. On recall, the brain simply fires a pattern of neurons to attempt to bring back the memory. This essentially means that while memories are real and programmable, they aren't actually tangible since they only exist as a brain code. Of course, that brain code is tangible so you can interpret memories that way, but it's so unique that even leading scientists cannot simply trigger memories.
As for the equations on the blackboard that VP was using, it definitely doesn't look like anything practical for neuroscience, but it could definitely just be something else he is working on. Neuroscience math mostly boils down to basic electrical and chemical physics functions and statistics.
In short, memories and pain are represented in the brain as perceptions, but are not real themselves and are not individually stored so they would classify as intangible things, but the physiological activation of those pathways are definitely tangible.
Kuma's fruit bringing out things like pain and memories would mean that your soul is directly connected to your brain and stores these perceptions itself. This implies that not only can some devil fruits manipulate souls directly, it likely means that lineage factor, souls, and devil fruits all fall under this outside force of "soul" in One Piece. This carries on into Will and Haki and everything, so basically we are confirming One Piece's "Theory of Everything" with these chapters. Haki, souls, Will, and Devil Fruits all use the same power, just simply different manifestations of it.

The ones on the next panel are legible-I’m not 100% on what eq he’s using (if it’s an existing one) but seems he’s calculating the position of something in 3d space (î, j, k) are standard notation of for that and he has dPi/dt (could be dPi/Vt but that’s not proper notation) so seems he’s tracking some variable over change in time
I might be wrong on this one but it also looks like he has the entropy eq on there as well as phase period (this one’s cut off so can’t confirm)
In addition there’s a drawing of an ac power supply going into an inductor and a capacitor
And finally he labeled his axis (tho where it’s placed next to the electronics doesn’t make sense)

I’m a neuroscience minor in undergrad right now and I’m taking neurobiology this semester😂 and yes memory is controlled in a few areas of the brain via signals sent between neuronal circuits
There are two things I noticed in this chapter that good be of relevance:
1. For all intents and purposes when Bonney de-aged Vegapunk she pushed out his years from his body. I don't know if this is going to have significance later on or if it's just something cool to make her similar to Kuma.
2. While the journal said, "the girl is unmistakenly human!" Stussy's introduction read, first successful clone. No mention of human. So maybe her vampire abilities are just that, she is a vampire. And here I get into speculation: what if Bonney was the first successful human clone, it would explain why Vegapunk cares so much about her and why he and Kuma had a close relationship. And could also have something to do with point 1.

The reason why the clothing wasn't affected was because she used her ability on others and not on herself. As you can see, if she uses her ability on herself, the clothing size actually changes, but if she affects others it doesn't. It was always like this. Someone with the fire fruit would burn the clothing of others, but wouldn't harm his own. This goes for all devil fruits
I'd have to go back through more scenes with Bonney but I know during Saboady arc her clothes did not change when she changed her age, which is why her clothes are so small on her as an adult.

Neuroscience major in college here, memories are an entire system in the brain, mainly electrical signals of interactions with other neurons. Interestingly enough, they use all parts of the body since the process starts from sensory neurons (anything that you sense with your 5 senses), and captures a quick snipet of it. That snipet is then transferred to the brain along the spine, and is stored as "short term memory". Memory is janky usually because of the retrival and storage of it, where it degrades. The more a memory is retrieved the more likely it is to be modified.
Essentially yes, memory is indeed, just chemical signals.

Bonney's fruit is like a better or altered version of Shinobu's. They both age things but Shinobu's is permanent and only gets older while Bonney's works both ways and is temporary.
The temporary nature is bad tho, if she waits too long her enemies spring back up and catch her off guard

I wouldn't be too hasty calling Stussy a vampire, she could be a succubus as well. Very similar wings to a vampire, also associated with making people sleep, and fits the whole night queen thing better.

I think this chapter might've given us the origin of all devil fruits and it's Kuma. Hear me out. He can make the intangible tangible. If the original user took the concepts of "art" or "sword" or even "freedom," and he put it into a fruit. And because they're concepts, they can't be destroyed, so they reincarnate instead
Which would then beg the question: Were did, at a point in history without DF, kumas ability come from?
And it would also mean that kumas ability is actually not part of a DF, since it preceded them.
This would be a plot point, how would kuma manifest devil fruits if they didnt exist, but he used a devil fruit which at that time didnt exist. Only explanation is that kumas df is actually a special ability his race has.
