  • The artistic evolution of berserk manga from the black swordsman to the conviction arc.
    its a very interesting evolution, but its just half of the whole manga, not to mention I skipped over the Golden Age, as it wouldnt have been as big of a contrast, as those 2, plus, they share many similar elements with a lot of overlap.

    Maybe it's because of Miura's passing
    Maybe it's because of Gut's theme in the background
    But these four panels genuinely still amaze me and make me want to shed some tears. The transition from rage to clarity, the way Casca stands there in the void, reaching out, unable to say what she's trying to say it's just... it's too much man. She's tiny and simplified next to Gut's fully detailed face, armour and hair; she's practically miniscule as she's standing there like a lost child, reaching for him to not leave her. Those four images perfectly convey the split, the pain and the challenges that encompass Gut's life after the Eclipse
    Miura was taken from us too soon... far far too soon...

      Even if you were already reading Berserk when he was still alive, you'd probably never know anything about the guy, that was how it was for us.
      He was very private, none of us even knew he was already sick for a long time, I mean many people speculated but none of us ever expected it was gonna be that soon. R.I.P

    Thanks for this! As someone who was initially inspired to learn how to draw because of Kentaro Miura, I really appreciate the way you highlight the things I love about Berserk, especially in its artwork.
    Also, I kinda felt called out with that whole "portraying emotion through lines and teeth" bit lol.

    I've been in love with berserk for almost a decade now ever since a best friend told me to watch the 1997 anime
    Kentaro miura with his evolution shows that humans are capable of so much more with growth and change, miura wasn't perfect from the start, he honed his skills! I love his art so much and I cried when he passed...RIP... Thank you for making this video!
    Looking forward to part 2 😉

      It was a pleasure to talk about his story and, tbh, its kinda overlooked how Miura wasnt as gifted as some believe. He worked hard and dedicated hours upon hours to go from great to Brilliant and, well, that change only continues.

    Miura was God Tier. I could go on forever about how great he was at his craft. I could also go on forever about how Berserk's art and story telling just fell off a cliff after he passed. When I read comments from post Miura editions of Berserk nobody seems to notice or care just how much of the quality was lost in every aspect, from the panels to the pages, the story and dialog, visual story telling, and everything in between. It's painfully obvious that nobody can fill Miura's shoes. It's such a shame that he died before he could finish the story or at least a rough manuscript, cause now whatever we get will be overshadowed by what could have been. It really is a tragedy. It seems like you might also share that sentiment, which seems lost to me on a lot of fans. Where is Part 2?

    • @DatelessPiano
      @DatelessPiano 9 місяців тому

      @@jonnyalec5646 I just read the whole series from the beginning to 375 over the past week or so and I immediately noticed the difference. It was like whiplash when I finally made it to an issue post Miura. Everything was different, and not better. The issues are way shorter and the artwork and panel design are very noticeably different. I honestly wish nothing but the best for the Berserk Saga and Kouji Mori. He's in a tough spot no matter what he does. But considering his quote; "I will only write the episodes that Miura talked to me about. I will not flesh it out. I will not write episodes that I don't remember clearly. I will only write the lines and stories that Miura described to me." The future of Berserk is looking bleak. Personally I'd prefer he just do his best to honor Miura's work while he fleshed out the writing and story on it's way to the conclusion but that's not what he wants to do. And I don't even blame him, but Berserk's art design and narrative quality will suffer for it. They already have.

    I don't compare Miura to other comic/manga artists, as I think it does the man a huge disservice. I genuinely think his name belongs in the same breath as the classical greats like Da Vinci and Van Gogh. His work was simply that jaw-droppingly good. You could fill an entire art museum just with panels from Berserk alone. In fact, I think a few Conviction panels actually have made their rounds in art exhibits.

    there could be a parallel made with the stylistic portrayal of emotions with Berserk, Vagabond, and Oyasumi Punpun which I think has a better way of showing what you mean by "an inordinate amount of lines and teeth".

    I find it funny because on the last episode of 2017 berserk the last few mins was all 2d animation and that was just to show the audience what berserk should have been like from 2016 to 2017 but the studio managers were insisted on using 3d animation with some 2d which made it a failure due to the fact that same studio that made berserk was not experienced enough for 3d animation

    Great video man had some great points and passionate voicing
    some points of criticism tho
    - you put down other techniques and art just to highlight your point (i know some of it is meant to be humorous like the SAO joke but others like 11:00 are just off-putting)
    - some of your writing is redundant/ repeats itself
    eg. 11:02 "here the way the corpses in the air *spin 'round* after Guts' swing obliterates them is highlighted in their *actual motion*"
    I used ** to pinpoint the redundancies. 'actual motion' and 'spin round' are used to refer to the same thing in the same sentence.
    - kind of a pet peeve of mine but you use the same terminology continually (egs. you say "detail" so many times in the vid bro it could be a drinking game)
    Just a few things I noticed and think you could improve upon but the vid left a very good impression on me. You earned a subscriber bro I can't wait to see you improve and grow.

    • @LeoArmada
      @LeoArmada  9 місяців тому +1

      There are limited terminology to be used, for very specific things which i wanna highlight, I focus on things in a broader sense, then zoom in how berserk does it, that cant be helped, its comparing 2 of the same things at different times, synonyms will be used. As for the 11:00 one, I showed that image earlier too and added text, where I state ''This art is still good, obviously, but the point is, Berserk goes above and beyond in line amount and dynamic-ness'' or smt among those lines. If it also wasnt obvious, I spent 2 videos more or less gushing over Bakis artistic highs. Sorry but I dont really see much I can change in any of these aspects, in videos comparing Art To Art, Speed to Speed, and Detail to Detail, you wont escape from the same words being used a lot. Synonyms were created to be used in exactly these contexts, and not to sound bad at the same time.
