My Mom loved this song. It was a big part of my youth. When I hear this song, I'm back in the kitchen hearing my Mom sing to it on the radio. She passed away in 79. I'm now 59 years old and turn to 10 yrs old when I hear this song !!
this song speaks to everyone who's ever been in love I love it so much I think about my husband who is in heaven with my God now and I can't help but think of all the beautiful memories it represents thank you so very much I love this song
It was composed by my high school classmate and friend Bobby Russell. He also wrote Honey. May he rest in peace. I hope to meet him again if it be the will of God.

I loved this man xxxxx His beautiful voice and lyrics will live on forever. I remember slow dancing with my big Daddy to O.C. Smith and other real soul singers xxxxxx What sweet memories xxxxxxx They don't make music like this anymore. Touches your soul.
If that's not loving me, than all I've got too Say... Man, music in my day's came with something called Class. What a moment in time, Dec. 26th 2019 for this ole smooth song to come across my screen.
as Frankie said in opening his version : "this is one of the most poignant and tender love songs ever written and the writer never even said I love you in the song, but its all there"
My dad would play this over and over and over and over. I know every word. Him and my mom were so in love! I thought about him this morning and thought about this song. Had to play it this morning. Haven’t heard this in quite a few years not since I was a kid. These are the songs that really made history in the hearts of people. Sweet memories… this song is golden. I close my eyes and am in my childhood home.

O.C. Smith was my father. I was born blind, and now as grown man, I feel I am giving back to my father for what he shared and did for me. I just remastered this song and hopefully soon, we'll release it. You can also find a lot about me and what I am doing. I want to share a 1,000,000 acts of kindness. It's called the Little Green Apples Project. Even though I am blind, I am learning how to pitch a baseball, so I can pitch a ball in every minor and major league baseball field. Here's a video of my first day of a full wind up. ua-cam.com/video/MAn9-IFAtaA/v-deo.html
Best rhyme in a song... EVER! "God didn't make little green APPLES, and it don't rain in INDIANAPLOIS... It even won the Grammy for Song of the Year in 1969.
P.s. How ironic. I wake up today and thought about this song. Again haven’t heard it since i was a kid. And the ironic part is that my father’s name is also Robert Smith just like your name. God bless you. This must be a “God’s Wink” for both of us.
Me too...it was real different then. Nowadays they'd go to jail, I got the belt many times due to my mother going off on my Dad as soon as he walked in the door from work!! Sister did also!
Funny story about this song, growing as a kid my daddy would play this type of music. And when he and my mom separated, I remember him leaving with his stereo on the back of his nova car, saying to me don't cry. Daddy will be back .L.O.L I remember this song and I remind him of that day and he felt so shameful. It wasn't about hurting him, all I want to say: God didn't make little green apples in the summer time.
I just looked up o. c. smith sorry to ssy i did not know he died! I remember when this song was a HIT on the charts, playing many times a day on radio! Great singer, wish more was written about stars from the 60s & 70s ! That u don't hear about, due to age???
I played in the Floor Shows of O.C.Smith, as a Drummer. We were an International 11 Man Band. All, very good Musicians on Stage. The Shows were all sold out. O.C. Smith was very popular and had many Female Fans. Many Artists play his Hit "Little Green Apples" in their Repertoire. He was a fantastic Entertainer and a great Soul and R & B Singer. His Voice was velvet soft and deep. For me,he had the same Voice like Lou Rawls. It was an Exciting Time for me, as a young Drummer. P.C.

I just found this singer - literally just now. He was singing the theme song to "The Leaning Tree". Cannot find it on a CD by this singer, but what an expressive singer. I will be on Amazon tonight and get an album by him. Sad it took me so many years to find him.
2009 Fresno CA I heard this song from a great lover friend Terry she passed away like my other friends one by one no reason she was 43 ,one thing she promised was to look over her 10 year old son but I went to prison now I'm out at 41 now I'm by myself with a 9 month baby girl ,makes me think
i remember seeing o.c. smith play this and many other songs when i was stationed at the missile base (malmstrom air force base) in great falls, montana back in 1972 at the recreation center, being so far from texas, this brought me much comfort back then.

It's 2024. For some reason, this song just ran across my mind. It takes me back to my younger days in the summer.
One of the most expressive male voices in pop music history.
Was introduced to OC Smith by my late brother in law - in the 1970 and eventually bought 2 of OC's vinyl's - what a voice😊❤
