I just found you this morning. You are amazing. I say that because you go into depth in the videos you create. I watched a few of your BOLO videos, amazing again. I am really impressed by what you are offering us.
Thank you so kindly, and glad to have you here! I have a much newer, and moire entertaining shipping video up now, that captions on the info also. It's under my How To Playlist. Just look up shipping.
this was great. im hoping to get my guts up on mailing fragile flats. question: do you use the new ebay flat boxes now? or still do the methods here. thank you!
Great info in all your videos! Watch many on my Roku rather than TV. Do you use a spreadsheet to track all your listings? Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
We use many spreadsheets. I actual have a video with a spreadsheet already set up that can be downloaded for free from one of my videos. It's in my How To Play List.
Stemming from the inspiration and info from your videos, I just sold a vintage R & B/Soul 45 for $40, which someone gave to me for free (yay!), and re-watched this video to make sure I packed it up properly. Thanks again for all that you do!
So glad to hear. The one thing I can say to all everyone starting out in records is to make sure you have your grading down. Record collectors can be picky so please make sure you have a good grasp on standardized grading.
Yes, I understand. Knowing how picky collectors can be, I'm taking my time with these and am very conservative in my grading and am describing each record with needed detail. I have the grading standards printed in my listing for reference. I am currently play testing all of the records that I list to document the accurate condition for my ad to stay on the safe side. If I'm unsure, I grade a little bit lower to be safe. I know it's slower going now, but with practice will speed up a bit. In the meantime, I love hearing the music while I list, etc.! Lol
I'd hate for someone to have a bad experience with a collector so I'm glad to hear your being extra careful! We listen to a lot of it as well. For the most part though we do not play test them unless it's a high dollar disc, and then in that case we usually ad a mp3 clip to the listing of the first 30 seconds of each side. Rule of thumb is to never post the whole song.
Yes, right now as I sift through my records I'm only picking out what I find to be those of higher dollar value and am listening to those and listing them first. Makes sense to mostly just visually inspect lesser value records or maybe spot check some of them. I've seen many ads where it is stated that the record was only visually inspected and I'm sure collectors are used to seeing that on lower value items so it all works out. I love the idea of adding an mp3 clip to the listing of the first 30 seconds of each side! Are you doing this on eBay or only on other websites? I haven't seen anyone's listing on eBay that has included this. I've added UA-cam videos to my listings before, but never mp3 clips.... I'm able to record vinyl to a flash drive or memory card with my record player but haven't tried it out yet and would love to add clips to some of my listings....
If the record isn't over $200 we don't play them any more. I've graded several hundred thousand records I would guess, and it's just not worth the time. We under grade most lower value records. We post clips from our Dropbox account into our eBay listings on the higher value ones. If you search ended soul 45 auctions, and then sort by highest first you should see a few up that have them as well. The rule on 30 seconds for us is also important as that way you aren't giving away the song. Most high value records we sell say over $200 go over seas to UK, France, Germany, Belgium, and to Japan, and the clips from the records are sold sometimes by the buyer, or have been repressed on new vinyl. Some buyers only want the disc to copy the track, so I stopped including the whole song to make it more enticing to buy.
Thank you this was very informative and I appreciate the information I was actually looking this type of stuff up on Google and was not finding much so I appreciate it thank you
Thank you so much for this video! I love the way you send all the paper products. I have received postcards in a regular envelope with index cards as the buffer. Obviously they came mangled! Will definitely use this plan for my sales.
Another very useful video don. Thank you. But my first batch of 45s for pennies each today and looked them up even at the worst poorest grading I'm going to do well. Quite a learning curve with records. Thank you again
Still craming in your video. tring to find the best video to ask this on LOL. Are you shipping your paper prouducts through usps media mail or first class? thanks, i was wondering about the tracking to keep your top rated if you used media mail.
We only ship media items via media mail. All paper items such as trade cards, and postcards are sent via first class shipping so that we can get the tracking.
The Auction Professor awesome that is what I figured due to the shipping on your listings. Just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything LOL keep up the videos. I get in 5 or 6 a day.
I just found your youTube channel and I am learning so much. We have been buying old storage lockers and what I thought was going to be garbage I am now going to be selling. Can you please tell me the name of the tape dispenser I totally need that
Just do a search on eBay or Amazon for a "ULine 2" Desktop Tape Dispenser," which should run you under $30 shipped. We have 3 or 4 of them, and we use them daily.
Not sure which boxes you are referring to. I do have a packing video from a week or two ago though that covers everything much better, and does include sizes through the video. You can find it in my How To Play List.
TY i was just gonna ask how you mail paper lol... do you put any wording on it? like, "do not cut open with sharp object" in case they might unintentionally damage the postcard, etc? I do this sometimes if I think it would help
I'm a new eBayer and love your videos. Immensely valuable! I have a question about shipping individual vintage oversize magazines. It looks like I need to ship a single issue of Life Magazine via Media Mail if I want to stay competitive. The way I understand things, this is against USPS rules for Media Mail. Am I missing something? I'm an aggressive entrepreneur and want to kill it with this business, but I don't want to endanger my seller status. If I try to ship via Parcel or Priority I'm simply not competitive. Any input or recommendations? Thanks in advance!
The media rate was to be for only regular media minus anything with advertisements in them. Depending on who you talk to at the Post Office you will hear it both ways. I've asked many different Post Masters, and I've been told it's fine, and as well that it's not fine. If it is a vintage magazine then the ads wouldn't be relevant in the slightest, and it should be only a media item. People buying them are buying the vintage magazines for the media content in general. Some books have advertisements in them, and are fine to use media if vintage so that is the basis I've always used. That has been a very gray area for a long time, and one that there is no real answer. I can tell you though I more then 20 years of being on eBay I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for using media for vintage magazines.
Thanks for the tutorial. Are the 78s expensive to ship when packed in a box? Last I checked, eBay wasn't letting sellers charge more than $4 for a record. Has that been your experience? I'm worried about shipping eating up all my profits.
YW! We ship them boxed at 3 pounds for one, and use calculated shipping for everything. With calculated shipping there is not max amount that I've seen especially in the 78 category, since they all have to be boxed no matter whom is selling them. We ship them media as well, which is very cheap, and we also charge for shipping on everything.
If you check out the description under this video you should see links to the items I use. The price goes up, and down on tape, and we found a source that has the double length rolls for just a little more so I think these are like .92¢ a roll, but you get way more. I't around $30 with free delivery on a case of 36 rolls. ua-cam.com/video/FvKrZrIvM3I/v-deo.html
The Auction Professor for some reason on my video I see the description but not thr links. I thought it was strange. Thanks for the link to the video with those links.
I just tried them from several laptops, and on this end they all show up, an work. Maybe you have a setting that needs to be changed, or a security feature with your firewall maybe blocking them.
Re: using Walmart twist tie bags for photos; I thought we must use photochemically safe, no PVC emission archival types of plastic for those types of items, no?
We don't worry about what the items are mailed in, as they are only designed to protect the item while traveling. The buyer would need to provide their own long term storage solutions for their own collectibles. We always keep our costs down, and buying shipping bags is just another way to do that.
Thank you! I would have just assumed that buying an item in a storage bag from a collector would be in the proper bag...so now will be sure to transfer it to something I know for sure is safe now! :)
A like minded cheapskate! 😆 Thanks for all the advice you give! I was thinking about buying a $250 label printer, but you just use paper and an ink jet printer. I think if you do it that way, then so will I.
I have a paper tape machine, and a electronic packing tape dispenser, so much easy for packing and a lot less tape. You do use a lot of tape, but I need to get that tape dispenser you have. There are times that would really come in handy. I would like to ask, do you not feel like it’s much boxing a record like that?? How much did a record like that go for to get so much love? Thanks
Thanks so much for watching, and commenting. I have one of the paper tape machines as well, but I only use it for Registered International mail. I've also tried several of the electronic dispensers, but the tape I use doesn't like them. I buy a half skid of tape at a time, and get each roll of tape for .65¢ so this has worked great for me. For packing 78's it honestly only takes me 3 or 4 minutes, as I move face, and have done thousands of time each year. The record sold for $24.50, and was purchased at 3 for $1 so it was a decent profit. If you plan on selling 78's you will need to pack all of them with care as I do. I though don't try to mess with any disc under $20. Those I'll dump in a lot.
The Auction Professor respect your knowledge, honestly, I can’t see what new things you will be showing in your videos. You will have me looking for items I would never buy.
I sell anything of value so there is always something you could be on the look out for.The more items you know the more money you can make. I have a haul video for something clothing I just found that will be going up today. I took some video at the thrift store as well. Thanks!
Thanks so much. Always like feedback. We had several other ask about the records, and will be doing a few more on other collectible records, and what to look out for as well.
Suggest using "Brown, secure-packaging (fiberglass reinforced) TAPE" with its special "TAPE DISPENSER with water reservoir" to build/secure boxes. Sets permanently in seconds after you place the tape perfectly along the box seams. The brown tape is incredibly strong and makes for a professional presentation. Well worth the investment. Once you try this, you'll never want to go back to plastic box tape again. (You'll even be searching around the house for flattened boxes to make into boxes with this tape and dispenser. I kid you not, it's that much fun!) As for the plastic tape is just not that strong, frequently doesn't cut cleanly, making you have to pick at the tape end to find the edge again. Yes, and the tape is so sticky, it curls back on itself, or doesn't stick flat on the box. You know what I mean. I used to have to use two layers of plastic tape sometimes just to make sure the box is adequately secure. And you know about fingerprints. To make a good presentation, you have to frequently wash your fingers so you don't transfer DIRT to the last bit of tape. Yukk. --- Great video, AP!
That was written 10 years ago when the technology couldn't scan through the glare of the tape. We've tapped on labels for years, and never had a single issue doing so.
I've had no problem with it. As long as the tape is clear. I didn't cover the entire label at first, then I learned the hard way to cover the entire label when rain soaked labels on two packages and I lost $20.
It would be a complete waste of time as we need a lot of the very same size of box. We also get $300 of free boxes from eBay every 3 months. As well with the gas and time we'd waste trying to find clean boxes of the same size we could buy them at half the cost in bulk quantity.
Sold a postcard for the first time today. Thank you for having this video. I knew you would be the one to show the best way to package it.
Old video, but great info, saves money and protects the items. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks mate. Good tips.

I'm going through all your videos backwards so you will see lots of comments on old vids! Great into, super super helpful!
TY!
I'm all over the place watching.. and then tend to comment 3 times, then ask the same things the next time I watxh.. I forget alot.. lol
Thanks for the video. I just purchased some records that I couldn't pass up but was wondering on how to ship them.
A great way of packing records on a budget and seems so much safer for the records inside. Thanks, Don. Charles in the UK
Love your packing style I just got that tape dispenser it’s been a game changer for me !
The Cast Connection & Property Control 👍
this was great. im hoping to get my guts up on mailing fragile flats. question: do you use the new ebay flat boxes now? or still do the methods here. thank you!
Love this! I sell some weird items and need unusual size boxes sometimes this is a great turmoil on making the "frankenbox"

Thanks you definitely have just saved me some money now
Great on hands examples, 😊 thank you for sharing.
This guy is so great. I have learned so much!!! THANK YOU
How do you get it to print only the label? When I print the label it also prints all the personal information next to it.
Super info every-time, the very Best Ebay info on the web ! Thank you, thank you !!

Great, thanks for the info. Appreciated!
I have loads of 78s but wasn't sure about the feasibility of shipping them. This really helped!
Great video, so informative. Do you sell sheet music, if so how do you pack it? Thanks
Love your packing style! Look forward to more videos :)
Thanks so much! We will be posting 2 more videos today!
Are you still shipping 33s like you used to? I can't find the vid with them.

To ship an LP, that is.
another reason I quit ebay! 90% of sellers do not know how to pack for shipping!!!
