Caramalinda is a shrewd ruler. I do think she could not see the forest for the trees, so to speak. She was singularly focused. She had every right to feel the way she felt, but to suggest "accidental," death is insane. It is very much what Calroy wanted to do/did.
The fact that Swifty was there the whole time!!!! Swifty is an opportunistic pyscho. He wasn't telling this information to Saccharina because he had her best interest at heart, but because he wanted to see murder and mayhem happen.
I disagree, well not so much that I don’t think her suggesting a different kind of arrow isn’t scary af, but everything Saccharina/her crew had done was a little barbaric and that threatened the peaceful kingdom of Candia should she become queen. I think Caramelinda saw her as being the next opponent once the war was over. Once Saccharina becomes queen, hardly anyone except Amethar could do anything to stop her from another sacking of Port Syrup. Like Ruby said, that was done in her name and she seemed to support it in the moment. Caramelinda saw her as a tyrant.
Calroy on the other hand had tried to assassinate a gentle ruler and rip apart a family.
I agree about Swifty, I don't doubt that he's part of the reason why Saccharina is the way she is. But I don't think Caramelinda is that bad really, not from a governance point of view. A ruler who to all apperances let her pet dragon rampage and bring a port city to ruin in the same country that she is/will soon be made Queen of, is not the kind of person you want in a seat of power. Is Caramelinda shrewd? Yes, of course. She kind of has to be in her position, but she's not cruel. Had none of this come to light and Saccharina had died on the battlefield, the entire thing would have quieted down, which would have resulted in far fewer deaths than almost all other alternatives. That's what she suggested.

Such an epic campaign
I have such trouble even trying to like Saccharina. I just can't. Her bitterness is just so palpable it makes me really uncomfortable. I also feel like Sir Theobald lost his character and integrity once she was introduced and I just can't follow the logic, and I usually have no trouble with that, but with him, it just, doesn't make sense. He didn't just leave Amethar, he left Ruby, who'd just lost her sister. It makes no sense to me.
