And what you mean alternating rows? K and P together makes one row, or only knit or only purl? Thank you very much. For those of us who are just starting, and have to learn alone on themselves, without any help, these are the most confusing parts in patterns. I've read so many patterns lately, but i just don't understand anything, so at the end, i chose a stitch i like and decided to do it alone by watching and learning the basics of knitting.
@Zornitsa, you should knit your sleeve up to the armhole to whatever length your arm is to the armhole, my arm length from my wrist to my armhole is 17 inches or 43cm, for the armhole shaping decreasing on alternate rows is every other row in most cases the knit row, knit is 1 row and purl is 1 row both these rows are not counted as 1 row they count as 2 rows, hope this explains what you wanted to know

@merryn ferguson, just my personal preference, i worked the pattern out myself and to make the sleeve fit perfectly there wouldn't have been enough stitches, it was better to not cast off stitches at the beginning a bit of trial and error, anyone can alter the pattern if preffered
