Tbh the most tragic but the most powerful character imo. Like he was probably Bill’s number one enemy/threat from the very start but also the one who could speed up the progress of the portal project. Literally because of Mcgucket so many of the hard hitting moments happened in the show. His inventions were integral for the emotional and serious moments we all know. Gravity Falls literally wouldn’t be the same without him.
He reconciled things with his son. As shown in the end credits, McGucket either in a pool at Northwest Manor or a lake at Gravity Falls, with both his raccoon wife and his son.
I mean, having a swirling memory inferno that can even damage Bill Cipher in a way that actually scares him also is an effective way to ward off the Egomaniacal Euclidiean.

I think McGucket's conspiracy corner shorts were around spring of 2015 after NWHS, and Apocalypse prepping in October. The zodiac short was probably the first to imply him as the glasses, which NWHS Dipper doubted, as many took to tying them to Ford.

I think McGucket and his ex-wife are trying to fix things and decided to start over as friends, and the rest will be something that they will decide on, also I'm glad he fix things with his son, that was nice.
The one thing I wish they'd delved into a bit more is how his family ended up seeing him. Tate and Ms McGucket were never in Gravity Falls so assumedly all they know is he went to go work on a project with a college buddy and presumably never came back or if he did come back he was a completely different person.

One more sad detail is that McGucket can't forget about Bill after the brief Nightmare Realm encounter. You can see it in his memory canister, day 1 he was talking about wanting to forget everything he saw in the Nightmare Realm but by day ??? he holds his hands up to his eye in the shape of a triangle, the scar left by Bill was too much for even the memory gun to erase.
Tragic, yes, but you know what? Even when broken if not bent, he still survived the drudgery, stayed vivid that he never became a complete senile loony, and made special things that even saved his world and his hometown in spite of it all. He's persistent, dedicated, and a truly proud achievement of an Oregonian man, really. Honestly, in case Gravity Falls gets a sequel saga, and hopefully one that's also a same-Earth-all-along crossover with Amphibia and The Owl House, we better see the fruits of his special labors in Northwest Mansion bear glorious fruit and create a never before seen technological revolution for humanity and his Earth in just the span of a decade or less. Add that with the inevitably reverse engineered Newtopian tech gained from the 2020(?) Frog-Vasion, Terri's Multiversal portal network research and development (that should peak at 2030?), and maybe even a groundbreaking collaboration with the alien magitek start-up Blight Industries headed by one Amity Blight-Noceda sometime after some sort of situational first contact... oh, boy, not even the DC Animated Universe, anime like GunBuster and GaoGaiGar, and Stargate SG-1 would be this big and cathartic when it comes to such advancing lore developments and in-universe status quo progress.
