  • In this video we look at the cleanup, and repair of a vintage small body Gibson LG-1. While being an entry level instrument from the very eary 50's, this is a pretty cool little guitar by any standard.

    This was very satisfying to watch.
    It’s amazing to see how clean you got that thing! Thanks for sharing this one and the little sound clip, it sounds and looks wonderful! The owner is going to be very pleased with that one, i’d love to see their expression seeing and hearing it for the first time after being restored. Just awesome!

    Beautiful job. Would have like to have heard some more playing! Lucky dude who found that. Why can't I ever find old gibsons, or martins. All I ever find at estate sales are pressed board guitars with cowboys painted on them

      Sadly, one of my high end clients, actually the owner of a few others on this channel has passed away. I am helping his wife re-home his collection. Lots of Gibsons and Martins looking for a new respectful home.

    So very cool that you restored this beauty. My story is a bit opposite of yours. My dad passed away in 2009. Sitting in the closet, in a cardboard case, was a 1952 lg-1. It probably had seen the light of day less than 10x from 1970-2009. Mint condition. It was pointed out to me that the center seam will need to be reinforced. As far as I can tell no parts have been replaced. Sorry but I couldn't save the case. A couple of friends have played it; it sounds great. Unfortunately I didn't inherit any musical talent from him. A guitar needs to be played. It's time to let it go to someone who will appreciate it's history, take good care of it and derive many hours of pleasure from playing it.

    Well done my friend! We have a couple of LG-1’s at the school right now with various ailments. Nothing this extreme though.😜

      I also have a '63 LG-0 comming up. For some reason I passed on the '68 B-25 w/snapped headstock, and child sized foot damage to top as a video. Thanks for viewing!

      I go to you tube and watch your videos again from time to time. I'm sure that guitars owners mouth dropped when seeing it again let alone hearing. ROBERT JOHNSON for sure ✌

    Great save! Hard to imagine it hasn't warped or cracked, hanging in the barn. I hope the new owner names it 'Tetanus'.

      I keep my tetanus shots current. A day without blood/ pokes, cuts, or scrapes is like a day without breathing.

    Would you have considered making a smaller new bridge plate for potential tonal gains? On the other hand, I definitely understand making a repro of the original for the sake of keeping it as original as possible.

    • @guitarc.p.r.9675
      @guitarc.p.r.9675  Рік тому +1

      Not really. These guitars are very lightly "Latter Braced" That bridge plate is a huge part of the strength of the top. Which is another reason I went with maple instead of the original spruce. I have had to do a lot of this style with damaged tops over the years.

    You are certainly a master craftsman! It's a shame the saddle doesn't match the nut. Unbleached material would have kept it looking vintage. Same for the tuner buttons. Cream or even ivory would have looked nicer than bright white.

      You can't have everything. I choose to pick my battles concerning form and function. The Bone will yellow. Plus I had limited choices on the tuners. Thanks for watching.

      Sorry to disappoint you. I am sure he can hook you up with the 70's junk import that was stored beside it.
