    For those of us in the mountains, don't forget that many (most) water filters should not freeze. Their effectiveness drops significantly. If you leave your go-bag with a water filter in your car in the winter, you need to get an MSR Guardian or some other non-fiber filter.

      For this reason (among others) I like to use the SteriPEN. Just keep in mind if you carry it, it is subject to battery failure so you need to ensure its charged, which is a consideration in a vehicle based ready kit that will likely sit idle for many months

    • @brimstone33
      @brimstone33 2 роки тому

      Water filter has it's place but is not the right choice for a bag like this. Better choice is chlorine purification tabs like Aquatabs. Or maybe iodine tabs which can also be used to make a wound disinfecting solution. Just my 2c. Sorry P-M.

    I'll add a Halligan, fire extinguisher, and bolt cutters. I saw a guy use a set to cut a chain link fence and get a bunch of people out of a wild fire they were trapped by on a highway. We have lots of flood control channels in So Cal that have service roads blocked by locked gates. A set of cutters might just get me off the main roads and home in a SHTF situation. I know where all the flood channels go. I also carry plastic trash bags, space blanket, and zip ties. My stuff is balanced between day to day travel and back country off road trips.
    I would like to see a basic vehicle set up or pros/cons of vehicles choices video, mostly related to a SHTF situation. I have some thoughts about that.

    One thing that has stayed with us from operating vehicles in hostile areas, alway have easy access to the spare tire. Never pack any type of gear/equipment on top of the damn tire if it’s stored inside the vehicle. Also a good jack that will get the vehicle up high enough with equipment still inside of it, along with a 4-Way lug wrench or battery powered impact wrench if possible.

Very few folks with his level of training should be allowed on scene of any emergency for any reason.They should give you a real bat signal. unless of course you don't want no one to bother you which is just as tragic. I also care a two foot breaker bar with a socket that fits tire lug nuts as it is much easier to persuade a stubborn lug nut with two feet of leverage than those dinky little tire tools that come with most cars. But having a two foot steel rod works for other things as well, persuaded a faulty starter motor on a coworkers truck to turn over and get him to a repair shop.

    Its one thing to be a "good samaritan" its another thing when you start injecting things into other peoples bodies. Just know if you should do this you will be breaching the "good samaritan" law in most states. As a career Firefighter/paramedic, I highly advise people to know and understand your states laws that cover this as well as obtain the required training to perform said skills in an emergency situation. When a pt. is in a life or death situation and looking into your eyes for help you will understand the gravity of the situation you put yourself into. Be sure to be what the patient thinks you are! You may be all they have. Good video sir.
