Nice work, as a contractor myself the only thing I would say is to have drilled some steel reinforcing rods into the old slab to tie the old and new concrete slabs together. Also some reinforcing mesh would be a good idea.
The amount of effort, time and materials are probably much more than anyone would ever suspect. I like the idea of using composite materials. However so costly these days. A great project that actually got finished and looks super cool. Thanks for this.
With all that kit you clearly know what you're doing, so you been doing it for a while, no novice can just do this, you're experienced in the craft, we was not born yesterday, But great job!!!
Well done. I am a landscaper by trade and what you did (while maybe not being the same way I would do it) came out very well. I would like to see an update to see how it is holding up!
Beautiful minitaure version of The Coliseum. What you did, takes commitment, skills and cojones to accomplish. Hope the family is happy and enjoying the results of your hard work.
Hey man, I don’t comment much but I have to say, this is the first video that I have seen on UA-cam where I actually watched every second of it, and it had my complete attention. I even paused and went back a few times so I could better understand the steps. Congrats and thank you for inspiring me!
Awesome creation! Good job! I'm surprised this hasn't reached a few million views, this is not only unique but easily shows that with some thought and patience, it's possible to even DIY something as awesome as this.
Mind blowing! The first thing that came to mind is not using rebar or metal mesh reinforcement to tie the concrete slabs together, but someone already mentioned that below. The next thing is, without being judgemental here, is why you didn't cut the wooden panels in a voussoir fashion on top of the bench backrest to tie the top and back panels together and eliminate the gaps between them? Otherwise, what an amazing job you've done! Hardly a non-professional execution!
You missed your calling your a great masonry person this is pro level and very neat project. Love the rounded design so much more inviting and easier to talk with others when in circle rather a square. Great Job. I would imagine many of your friends are like wanna come build me one. I love the use of the composite for the seats great idea and a lot warmer than sitting on concrete slab ingenious.
Wow. Aw-inspiring. I can't imagine the level of focus and dedication this must have taken. At one point, I felt like I was watching the pyramids being built.Really exceptional work. Kudos.
So Nice!!! Living in a cold winter climate, I can imagine a vented, partially enclosed greenhouse overhead to keep the heat in for enjoying the outdoors year round!!! I really love the whole design of this.
awesome ideas, my very first thoughts were drainage, and every time I thought it, two minutes later, it was "and this pipe is added for drainage" touché!
Great job, looks good. Nice way to re purpose an old space and materials. Fire pan a good idea as fire direct on concrete without firebricks can explode small air pockets in the concrete. (from experience)
Best fire pit I have seen . Can you do brief list of the materials used Ie is it all composite decking or did I see some timber decking in the video . Also the curved bendy strips , never seen these before , what are they and where do you get them from , thinking of having a go using your ideas , thanks for help
Kevin Hale thanks! It is all composite. The wood was when I was deciding the cuts before the composite was delivered. I got the recycled plastic bendy bars from here www.rockwoodwpc.co.uk/. Although they don’t seem to have them on the site anymore. Give them a call and they might be able help
That is greeeaaat! You have more patience than I do. With a few modifications you could have a fire-pit encircled by a hot tub. I concur with Just Dave...the 2001 a Space Odyssey music...Strauss if I had to guess...a nice touch. I look forward to the follow-up video of when you add the Saturn V smoker.
I really enjoyed watching your video thanks a lot. I wish you added material costs and where you bought supplies form, so we could get an idea of of where to shop and over all cost. great stuff keep it coming.
So what did we get up to this summer.... Pffffft not much just whipped up a fire pit to go with me pizza oven. Lovely work mate looks nice, I could see pizza night with a few brews would be popular in your neighbour hood.
It looks fantastic. Really nice job. The only thing I would improve is that your slab doesn't have mesh or rebar and its not tied to the existing slab with rebar dowels. You might (I hope not) find that over time the new part settles a bit relative to the old pad. Also, such big thick heavy slab is prone to cracking without re-inforcement from mesh. It is never a mistake to put wire mesh or rebar into a slab - thats what keeps it from cracking.
No, he's right, he's no professional. Why did you use bitumen to seal only the floor of the seat cavity? Also, what is the frost depth in your region? I would be a little concerned with frost damage to the seat structure from all that organic matter you mixed in with the rocks for fill, but then again, I live in Zone 5 / Zone 4 so we have a bit more to worry about than say a California Zone 9 in that area.
What a beautiful job. I bet if you hired a pro it wouldn't be the same for they would put hard work but not the same love. You should be very proud of yourself.
I have never considered giving a standing ovation for a youtube video, but dude, I am on my feet. Bravo BRAVO!
I know right!!!!!! So much work.
Absolutely man that was impressive!!!
The only thing missing is a final shot with friends gathered round, fire blazing, and cocktails chilling. Magnificent job, my friend.
Thanks to this guy im trying it in my own backyard. God be with me.
nice to see a man enjoying his space and having a go instead of being neurotic! Great job Enjoy the times around it✌
Nice work, as a contractor myself the only thing I would say is to have drilled some steel reinforcing rods into the old slab to tie the old and new concrete slabs together. Also some reinforcing mesh would be a good idea.
Who cares
Anthony cronin Clients do when it cracks and call you back and good contractors care as they take pride in their work and maintain a good reputation.
Nice off you to say, thank you

That is beautiful. You know you’re an adult when stuff like this is satisfying
Dude, take a bow. Standing ovation from the gallery. Bravo!
You are a true expert if you make something like that and still give everyone the im no pro or a tradesman warning. True handyman king. Great work :)
I've done my whole house inside and out by watching UA-cam videos they are a godsend
Same here.
you live in a fire pit now?
@@moos5221 yes well fire pit is the secret entrance to my underground mansion
I built a incubator once, in grade school that works. Nice Job Guy's, it's beautiful.
With all that kit you clearly know what you're doing, so you been doing it for a while, no novice can just do this, you're experienced in the craft, we was not born yesterday, But great job!!!
I'm a builder and that is excellent. Well done 👍👍
Well done. I am a landscaper by trade and what you did (while maybe not being the same way I would do it) came out very well. I would like to see an update to see how it is holding up!
Wow!! That's quite a remarkable feat! Congrats!! Only thing I would have added would be venting for smokeless pit. Incredible work!
what a amazing job for a so called "unprofessional" DIY enthusiast, salute
That would look really good with glass rocks under the fire pan to give it a fire and ice look. Very nice pit and excellent idea.
Beautiful minitaure version of The Coliseum. What you did, takes commitment, skills and cojones to accomplish. Hope the family is happy and enjoying the results of your hard work.
You say you're not pro, but that looks pretty pro to me. Very nice work!
White text with black outline.
Awesome build! 🤘
Good thing I found you. What an inspirational project. Three cheers. Very masculine still very pretty you get my drift...👍👍👍

Forget what you said in the beginning... You're a PRO in my eyes. This is Awesomeness
Great job! You should be very proud of yourself. Excellent looking fire pit! I can't believe people are even giving you 👎.
They are jealous
Just WOW... I usually have criticism on building, but this is excellent!
Awesome construction. Looks like a roman colosseum.

Awsome job may recommend a cage around the fire to block popping embers.
I dig it! I can tell you did a lot of planning so the end project came out right. Looks sharp. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I thought I was decent at DIY. I think I need to step my game up. Great work.

Looks great! You did really good job for not being a professional. I would have never guessed it wasn't contracted out.
Wow great firepit and seating area....👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful work, better than other fire pits ive seen on here.
Well done, and the music brings back memories of the movie 2001.
Just Dave agreed. Beautiful classic not like the crap they play now a days.
Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss.
What a beautiful peace of art. Bravo 👏
You did an amazing job with the fire pit an the music in the video👍👍❤️
great project and FINALLY some great background music

Excellent music choice! Great Job too. I'm sure you get plenty use of it.
Great choice of music, not much beats Johan Sebastian Strauss's "Blue Danube". Oh and, loved the build, also!
Amazing piece of work and art.... well done
Lovely design and great attention to detail.
First I came for the video of diy, from then forward just for the soothing melody. Beautiful
This is a freaking geniues. Well done.

awesome ideas, my very first thoughts were drainage, and every time I thought it, two minutes later, it was "and this pipe is added for drainage" touché!
Just beautiful 🤩 you should be so proud of yourselves
Very nice!! I think I would have preferred to use that as a hot tub though.
Love the music. Better days.
Cracking job there kidda, well done.

OUTSTANDING! I want one in my yard!
I don't know if that music was in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but the style fit. That thing is beautiful.

ill-fated Hi. About £1800 total. - the composite deck was the most expensive part at about £1100 but it is guaranteed for 25 years apparently!
Love the circular seating look!
So what did we get up to this summer.... Pffffft not much just whipped up a fire pit to go with me pizza oven.

Thanks - let's hope there's no cracking. It's on quite heavy clay soil - it's been a year and no cracks yet.
Awesome work. Hopefully you painted that back fence too.
Crazy good and enjoyed how you put the video together. Loved how you incorporated use of the old slab. Kudos to the effort.
"I am not a professional" YOU LYING SACK OF POTATOES!" seriously thou amazing work.

this is the most beautifull fire pit i have seen on youtube , nice job :)
This was beautiful. Almost brought me to tears. Subscribed, can I hire you?
What a beautiful job. I bet if you hired a pro it wouldn't be the same for they would put hard work but not the same love.
You should be very proud of yourself.
That looks great. Do you wish you would have done anything differently I bet some accent lights would look amazing
Thanks. Led lights would look good. I have now got some string lights hanging over it which look nice.
Inspiring job and fantastic end result. Great work!!
Very impressive. You have done a wonderful job.
Very impressive. Love the imagination utilized to execute your project. Well done.
