      mytwocents First, I never specified which animal I meant with this comment, BUT Secondly, had I suggested humans...you would still be completely erroneous. A simple YT or Google search of “Orca attacks human” will yield you the results contrary to your belief.

    • @mytwocents9847

      @@FlickDad You adressed your comment toward OP, who most likely, is human. Secund you mentioned an animal ,,devouring their flesh", and why would you refer to any other animal but Orca if you replied to an comment who was stating how magnificant sounds those creatures make, let alone of an video entirely dedicated to them?
      And no, despite your "attacks" that are uploaded on this site, there still isn't any case of an UNPROVOKED killer whale attacking an human in their natural habitat. Attacks had happened, one even resulted in death, but those were in captivity, exclusively. And those don't count.

    they have such little voices for such big animals

    • @KCandy560
      @KCandy560 8 років тому +46

      +Pineapple Time Their voices are not usually used for long distance as a pod will generally communicate with each other in a short range, and it is said each pod has their own range of vocals so they can identify eachother

    • @GayBirdHere
      @GayBirdHere 7 років тому +48

      If you have watched the documentary Blackfish, there is a scene where two orcas actually made long distance calls. It was mother orcas trying to call out to their babies who had been taken to another aquarium.
      It's depressing but the call is very interesing to hear.

    • @inkyorca2331
      @inkyorca2331 7 років тому +5

      The vocals they use for that whale in Blackfish aren't long range calls, and aren't even noises that an orca is capable of making. They were created on a computer, and the whale they use in the video who is 'calling for her baby' was not a mother orca at the time. There is no video of Kasatka using 'long range vocals.'

    • @GayBirdHere
      @GayBirdHere 7 років тому +5

      Of course the vocals and footage they used in the movie weren't the exact calls. It was a rare moment and I doubt there is any archive of it.

    • @inkyorca2331
      @inkyorca2331 7 років тому +3

      There isn't any archive of it, you are correct. SeaWorld never brought in someone to analyze the vocals, that was totally made up, because if that did indeed happen, there WOULD be archive of it, but there isn't. If you listen to the sounds they play in Blackfish it doesn't sound like something an orca would make at all.

      Yeah, they might as well be giant dolphins crossed with pandas in terms of appearance. The pandas of the sea... LOL
      They remind me of elephants, too. They're a good 6-8 tons. They have close family ties and are very smart and emotionally complex. They have an uncanny ability to dominate just about any other sea creature they come across. Heck, even some of their squeaks sound like elephant noises.
      You can't go wrong with orcas.

      @@Fisher_Tiger01 If orcas were like wolves, their asses would get beat by every other sea creature out there. Wolves get chased by moose and curb stomped by grizzly bears for God’s sake. Wolves are just dogs that can’t fit in a house.
      Comparing orcas to wolves is an insult to orcas. They don’t even remotely resemble a wolf, hence why orcas are cute badasses. They’re definitely more like superior animals like elephants and giant pandas. 🐼 🐘

    Teasing apart exactly who is making which calls is tricky with killer whales. The problem is that individuals usually swim in groups so close together that it is difficult for arrays of hydrophones to locate the source of the sound with enough precision to discern whether a matriarch or her offspring made the call. In fall 2007, one of the Orcasound network members (Beam Reach) used a towed linear array of 4 hydrophones to localize calls exchanged between a juvenile southern resident and its two closest family members. You can read about that localization success in the Beam Reach wiki. For a similar (and peer-reviewed) success in northern residents, see the 2004 article by Patrick Miller.

    I love this sound especially bc it reminds me of going to seaworld as a kid some of the best memories although Ir dont support what they do to those animals.

    They should play this to deter (for now) the Orcas from biting off rudders or other parts of boats. Play these sounds, it would be an interesting test to see if it can deter them

    How can we synthesize these sounds from scratch, using physics-based sound synthesis?

    Just imagine waking up in your boat and hearing those sounds
    Also yeah...get away as fast as possible if your not near a beach.
    cause orcas sink boats.
    When they sink your boat, they will not personally attack you hut you will be in the middle of an ocean which is a big problem..
